Ego Talk With Chris Godwin
August 3rd, 2021With Hall of Fame receiver (and personality) Michael Irvin at Buccaneers training camp today, you just knew there would be quality questions fired at a Tampa Bay receiver or two.
Irvin got his shot in after practice, demanding Chris Godwin tell his NFL Network audience how the Bucs figured out how to have a bunch of A+ receivers not screaming for the football — and willing to share.
Explain “the way you share that little precious thing we call a football,” Irvin said to Godwin, adding that he’s a much better man than Irvin ever was when it came to team-first receiver play.
Godwin talked about the lack of ego among Bucs receivers, including Antonio Brown.
Irvin zeroed in and wanted to know if Godwin, Evans and Antonio Brown, among others, ever sat down and had a formal chat about sharing and releasing ego.
Godwin replied that there was no official conversation but the topic has come up as he, Brown and Evans have their three lockers alongside each other.
“We all kind of like came to the understanding; we’re here to win,” Godwin said. “If we want to make this thing like really shake, we gotta be all-in together and we can’t have all this ego and stuff.”
It is amazing how the Bucs have compiled a crew of pass catchers that may go down as the most accomplished in NFL history — and nobody is moaning yet about targets.
Joe sure hopes it continues, especially if all three tight ends are healthy and Giovani Bernard secures the third-down running back job.
Soooo… who got @TomBrady the best birthday gift? 😂@CGtwelve_ joined us from #NFLTrainingCamp! @Buccaneers pic.twitter.com/syKzZCOWH6

Your description “the most accomplished in NFL history” may well be on the mark. It would be hard to find a team in history with three better WRs. Amazing group. It will be a fun season for we Buc fans.

It is called “team work”. Unfortunately, many players, and in a bigger cosmos, in America, many people have bought into the “I’m the only guy that matters” philosophy. But no team has ever succeeded with that philosophy, nor has any country really come close to reaching it’s potential for greatness.

All’s well & good this year….but we can likely say goodbye to Godwin next year….he’ll want to be paid more than Mike & Bucs simply can’t do that…..so, to sign Godwin is to increase Evans accordingly…..not likely to happen.

Love Godwins play.. and seems to be a great guy….but can’t blame him for going for more money next year. Still… we have a ton of depth. So everyone will win…next man up.

I have been a Bucs fan since day one, and back in the old losing days, we could only DREAM of having a team like we have now.
I plan to enjoy this ride as long as I can and be aware that we are all watching history unfold with Tom Brady.
Yes, this will probably be Chris Godwins last year in Tampa, but with him and Evans and Brown, these are the best receiving trio that Tom Brady has ever had.

Another reason they are not whining about getting the ball is Tom Brady. I just don’t see these guys arguing with Brady because he isn’t throwing the ball to them.

@Tackleblockwin At first thought I agreed with you, but Mike Evans never demanded the ball regardless of who was throwing it.

Godwin will retire as a Buccaneer. He will never wear another uniform.

Your attitude equals your altitude… and these guys are going to fly high!

If Tampa does win this year’s Super Bowl, everybody will want to go for three. Godwin would take a reasonable bump in salary to be part of that history.

The Big 3 won 3 in a row – what can this group do? Far deeper than the 3 star Irving/Aikman/Smith….Brady/Gronk/Evans/Marpet – two elite RB’s and the best 3rd down back in the game- our 2nd and 3rd TE’s are better than 90% of the starters in the league
Who in the league has AB as a WR3? No Alvin Harper’s on this roster
It’s a disgusting collection of talent and we haven’t even broached the D yet 🙂
