Scotty Miller Learning Through Jamel Dean & Carlton Davis
July 30th, 2021The rich get richer.
No, Scotty Miller is not testing his game against Vernon Hargreaves and Brent Grimes, two small corners who weren’t exactly all-in at Bucs training camp. He’s working extra hard, he said, on releases and route running versus Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean.
It’s a major summer focus, Miller told WDAE Radio today.
”Really just trying to get off jam on bigger guys, which is great against our guys,” Miller said. ”We got Carlton [Davis] and Jamel [Dean], which are two very big corners, man-to-man corners. So it’s just really good competing with them, learning how to get off the ball in different ways.”
Miller averaged a whopping 20 yards per catch last regular season. And he was a beast in the playoffs. Thank you, Jason Licht, for turning the draft-pick return on the trade of DeSean Jackson into Miller.
Joe is very confident in Miller’s abilities, and his ability to improve. Imagine Miller taking a third-year leap alongside the iconic Bucs receiver giants.

This is one of the biggest advantages in having a solid team at all positions, especially the secondary in this case. Iron sharpens iron as they say. Likely the secondary is getting the better end of this deal at this point going up against the likes of our receivers. But it does work both ways. Love having these competitive battles and teachable moments throughout the different position groups.

Scooter has played well. He may be a casualty to all the talent we have at receiver, and have to battle for snaps. This team is going to field a wide out set of ME, CG, and AB- outrageous. Tyler Johnson needs to get more snaps, and Darden has the potential to do the same things that Scottie does, AND return kicks. Of course, when injuries start to mount, Scotty will be there to bridge the gap. I dont doubt that Davis and Dean getting their hands on small receivers is a strength.

I agree. I also think that is what ROJO did his first couple of years. Finally got his man body!

Adding muscle should allow Scotty to run more slants over the middle and survive. Dbs that drop deep too fast could be had.

He even says he models his game after Desean Jackson.

And yet morons are around who wish this guy gone. Can’t fix stupid.

With ME…CG…AB…Gronk…Defensive Coordinators are not going to be staying awake worrying about Scottie.
He may be able to do some real damage. He’s clearly not a #1 or 2 but he’s better than a 4th on most teams. We are DEEP!

^^^ Don’t know about that St Pete. Im being nit-picky with what you said, but I think Scooter could be a #2 on several teams. Take the Ain’t (please, take them). With Thomas the Diva out, they are signing warm bodies to fill out their roster.

Scotty has been a one trick pony so far. Bombed on screen passes. He can stretch defenses. But to be more than a spot player he needs to develop a complete set of routes with sharp cuts, etc. to become a long term Buc. His speed does put pressure on dbs both corner and safety. A lot of corners can’t match up and if he makes a safety lean in his direction it opens the field for other Buc receivers.

IMO … Scotty the Body’s biggest negative, other than being new to the NFL, is his size getting knocked off his route/stride/balance/timing
By DB’s just giving him a hard shove running the route.
All that can be learned and corrected , I am guessing he will show great improvement in all of the above criticisms
This year!
