Bucs Offensive Record Book Full Of 2020 Players

July 8th, 2021

Closing in on Mike Alstott.

Maybe this shows how dismal and prehistoric the Bucs offense was under Father Dungy.

Last year in four postseason games the Bucs averaged over 30 points a game. So Joe expected to see some representation of that squad in the franchise record book for postseason yards. Still, this surprised Joe.

When Father Dungy coached the Bucs (1996 through 2001) just about every year the Bucs were in the playoffs. They even reached the NFC title game in 1999. But you will only find one receiver who played for Father Dungy on those late-1990s Bucs teams in the top-five of various postseason offensive categories.

For example, for most scrimmage yards in a single Bucs postseason, Playoff Lenny, Chris Godwin and Mike Evans are all in the top-five.

Joining that trio from is Michael Pittman, who likely had his best game as a Bucs running back against the Raiders to win the Bucs’ first Super Bowl — perfect timing. And there is Ricky Bell, the famed tailback in the early years with John McKay.

That’s it.

When it comes to most postseason receiving yards in one postseason, again there are three players from last year’s team (Cam Brate, Evans and Godwin) along with Joe Jurevicius (who played for Chucky) and Keyshawn Johnson, who played two seasons for Father Dungy and two years with Chucky.

The all-time scrimmage-yards leaders for postseason play surprised Joe. Sure, you’d expect Mike Alstott (502) to have the most. Second-place? How about Playoff Lenny with 448.

Interesting in that if Playoff Lenny just has one decent playoff game this season, he will surpass Alstott.

Yeah, that quickly.

To me the best catch in history is the tipped Joe Jurevicius catch vs the eagles.

Those great defensive teams we had in that era were so wasted, pity

  3. Youngbucs Says:

Mike Williams had the exact same catch you speak of. I think it was against the browns if I remember correctly.

To think we are gonna be even better this year, as Brady gets even more familiar to this Offense.

@Evolvingbucsfan I agree! That dude made some unbelievable (and clutch) circus-catches.

    What about Josh Freeman….

@Marc Coppola asked, “What about Josh Freeman?”
Answer This is about post-season yards and Josh Freeman never appeared in the post-season.

Pittman got half his yards in the Super Bowl.

    He balled out that game.

    Respect.

I love Rojo but this shows how Playoff Lennys value in the postseason is gold. If he could only channel that fury all through the season the guy could be unstoppable. Its amazing he almost doubled the yardage of the next closest to him (Michael Pittman). What a beast he was for us in the Superbowl run. If I am Arians I am trying to figure out what switch to pull to get that performance all year long.

We’ve never had a dangerous offense until last season. We had the following:
    0-26: Nuff said
79-82: All World defense but Doug Williams was not as good as we pretend
83-95: The Dark Ages (except for James Wilder – RING OF HONOR NOW!!!)
96-2003: Alstott and some other guys
    2004-2008: Chucky Limbo
2009-2019: Return to the Dark Ages

    Wow, that’s sad.
