Tough Times For Team Glazer
April 7th, 2010The good folks at TBO.com posted a Manchester United wire story on their Bucs page today. It explains that Team Glazer’s soccer people have no plans to spend big money on players in the immediate future.
Hmmm, wonder why TBO thought that would be of interest to Bucs fans?
Anyway, Joe, being the soccer fan he is, wanted to add a little perspective to the story that was absent. Near the end of the piece, the Associated Press author explains that Team Glazer also is being questioned for relying on four veteran players in England.
Doubts have also been raised about the reliance on midfielder Ryan Giggs, 36, and the 35-year-old duo Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.
While goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has signed a new deal keeping him at Old Trafford until the end of next season, Ferguson has yet to identify a long-term replacement for the 39-year-old Dutchman.
These four guys are the Manchester United equivalent of Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, John Lynch and Ronde Barber.
If Team Glazer thinks they have major heat on them now from the radical, growing Glazer-hating contingent over there, the pressure now would be nothing in comparison to what would happen if they went with a Tampa-style veteran purge. The masses might lose their minds.
These are tough times for Team Glazer. Thankfully, Bucs fans can rest easy because Joel Glazer told us that “money will never be an issue when it comes to building [the Bucs].”

Yeah ONLY three premier league championships in three years. Thats rough.
In my humble opinion the ManU fans can shove it…wankers.

If I understood Justin on the radio the other day, the #3 pick in the draft will require a 70 million dollar contract with 30 million guaranteed.
HAHAHAHAHAHHA
Love it!
And wait unttil we have the number one overall in 2011, where they might not be playing at all!

ManU fans, welcome to our world.

The Glazers don’t worry themselves with the details of the daily team operation. Man U has had the same coach for the past 20 or so years, and he’s been relying on those guys for ages. Aside from that, there’s a lot of talented youth on the team already like Nani, Rafael, Fletcher, Rooney, Anderson and Valencia. There are very few parallels, so please stop trying to draw those parallels.
Goalkeepers are always a problem in the Premiership for some reason, Van der Sar was the first real competent goalkeeper in about a decade who played for Man U.
Also, Van der Sar isn’t like the other three at all. He joined the team very late in his career.

They don’t have to purge the players, Joe. They hate them already! Those English fans mean to get rid of the Glazers! I bet for every one bodyguard they have in Tampa, they have 10 in England!

I hate reading details about soccer teams!

You know the Glazers have no track record as sports people. They don’t, at least as far as I know, have any real sports background at all. And yet they think they can successfully run an NFL franchise and the most prominent soccer team on earth? What history is there of a business person, whose business success is due to their father no less, running one club well much less two clubs in two wildly different sports? Teams that aren’t on the same continent for that matter.
I am really running short of excuses for being optimistic.

Gil Brandt, speaking minutes ago on NFL Sirius Radio, said he’s “been told” the Bucs want to trade out of the #3 overall draft slot because it will cost so much to sign that draftee.
Ideally, Brandt said, the Bucs would like to trade down to around the #10 spot.
Brandt added he doesn’t know that this is true, just that this is what he’s been told.
That is all, Joe.

Thank you George!

I’ve said it before that money will NEVER be an issue when it comes to the Bucs and I mean it.
How can I be so sure?
Because if I don’t spend the $ it’s not an issue – next…

As to the rumor that the Bucs don’t want to sign the #3 pick – this is absolutely false.
I’ve filed paperwork with the State requesting en economic bail-out due to the economy and the failure of the fans to purchase enough season tickets. I expect my friend Charlie to put me in touch with a billion dollar loan so there – I’ll be able to sign Suh/McCoy and it won’t cost me much…all I’ll have to do is raise beer prices and parking will go up to $50 a game…
