“It Didn’t Feel Real”
June 28th, 2021Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians has been very vocal about this: You haven’t won s(p)it yet in 2021.
Joe is also guessing that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady has sent similar Instagram direct messages to his teammates, Brady’s favorite way to communicate in the offseason.
It likely won’t take much time for Bucs stud right tackle Tristan Wirfs to come back down to earth from the Super Bowl high. He admitted it yesterday.
Wirfs worked a charity football camp yesterday in Iowa run by former Hawkeyes players currently in the NFL. There, he admitted to Tom Kakert at Hawkeye Report that the Super Bowl experience has started to fade and the goal of repeating in 2021 is taking over.
Wirfs was asked if his feet have hit the ground from winning a Super Bowl as a rookie.
“A little bit,” Wirfs said. “For a while it was really, really weird. Everyone asking me about [winning it all]. It just didn’t feel real to say, ‘Oh yeah, we just won the Super Bowl.'”
Yes, he still finds it crazy that he’s blocking for Brady.
“Oh, 100 percent,” Wirfs said. “It’s weird I walk up to the huddle and he is standing next to me. It’s still cool.”
Wirfs also mentioned he tries not to think about his wild rookie success. About the only time he does dwell on it, he said, is when people tag him on social media with the Bucs’ offensive stats or that he only allowed one sack.
Joe’s mind was blown when Wirfs said that coming out of high school he had only two scholarship offers. If that’s true (perhaps Wirfs was only referring to Division-I offers?), a lot of college coaches who need to reassess how they project offensive linemen.

At the draft day party, several of us just couldn’t believe Wirfs was falling to us.
It was a total no brainer for Licht to take him.
He was my top rated tackle in the draft, and I was shocked he fell so far.’

That’s a fun article. This huge, physically imposing man just had the most successful, dominant rookie seasons any OT could have … and yet he’s still just a good, humble, young man.

Joe…maybe he grew a half a foot and gained a hundred pounds between his HS recruiting and his junior or senior year of college. Don’t know. But it does sound strange.

He was recognized at the best athlete in the state though, his senior year and was rated 4 star recruit. Maybe he jumped on the first Iowa college scholarship offer he got, before others got to him. I’d take Iowa over Iowa State as well.

Why did they not talk to Anthony Nelson, was he not there?

Technically, he didn’t fall to us did he?
Didn’t we trade up a spot?

I’m on the same page as Chris@Apple Roof . WHAT a STEAL Wirfs was ! He’s a BEAST ! Have you EVER seen or heard of someone of his size jump out of the 3 ft. end of a pool and land with both feet upright on the deck ?! Gave up only ONE sack in his 1st year ! I say he’s gonna’ be HOF material before his career ends .
