Tom Brady Was Not Calling Out MVP Mitch Trubisky

June 27th, 2021

Not Tom Brady’s target.

As we count down the days until training camp starts, the chatter in league circles isn’t so much on if the Bucs can repeat as Super Bowl champs. No, the question all NFL folks want to know is, who was Tom Brady calling out?

As was seen Friday on HBO, Brady supposedly was deep into discussion with a specific team last offseason when he was shopping his wares in free agency. This unknown team apparently got cold feet and told Brady they would go to battle with their apparently underperforming quarterback and told Brady, in so many words, thanks but no thanks.

This enraged Brady, so he explained on something called “The Shop,” “You’re sticking with that motherf@cker?”

Speculation, including from those who know Brady intimately, said Brady was unloading on Bears coach Matt Nagy and ripping Bears quarterback MVP Mitch Trubisky.

Well, there are few better-plugged-in folks in NFL media than the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio. Alas, Florio has learned from multiple league contacts Brady was not taking a shot at MVP Mitch Trubisky.

Per multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation, it wasn’t the Bears.

That doesn’t answer who it was. The Colts and Chargers don’t fit, because they weren’t “sticking with” anyone in 2020. Both teams signed new quarterbacks in free agency, and the Chargers later drafted rookie of the year Justin Herbert. The Titans make no sense; quarterback Ryan Tannehill had just won the NFL’s comeback player of the year award, and he’d beaten Brady in his final game as a Patriot.

A guy who knows Brady well from working with him in New England, former NFL suit Michael Lombardi, is convinced the quarterback Brady threw under the bus was rotten Ryan Fitzpatrick. If that is the case, Brady’s description fits perfectly.

You damn right Joe would love to learn who Brady slammed. But here is what Joe knows, whatever dumbarse team didn’t want him, Joe will send a case of Big Storm beer to that general manager because he helped the Bucs win a Super Bowl.

To the team that turned its nose up on Brady, Joe believes Nelson Muntz said it best.

Bravo, Joe, well done. Nelson laughing is poetic justice.

Quick question, maybe ask Ira and both Joes on the pod, is Vita Vea Jason Licht’s best draft pick? Take into consideration, he traded back and got Carlton Davis and big Vita. If we stuck at #7 in that draft, and took QB Josh Allen, then I bet we don’t win the 2020 super bowl.

IMHO, Vita Vea is a dominant force and allows for our pass rush to feast. He’s like a hybrid of Troy Polamalu and Vince Wilfork.

It still doesn’t make sense to me. Everyone knew Miami was drafting a QB, they were not sticking with Fitzpatrick. Miami also wasn’t an immediate contender, they looked (and still look) like they’re 2 to 3 years away from seriously contending for anything other than a possible wild card berth. Miami and Brady were a poor fit.

If the source was correct, the only team that could make sense was Indy, and that assumes that the Brady camp heard that Indy was set on Rivers. Why?

    1. Brady likes most QBs, one of the few exceptions is Rivers.
    2. Brady would never play for Indy. They’re the ones who started the Deflategate lie, and lobbied other owners like Jerry Jones to pressure Goodell. I’m sure Brady hates their guts.

But then the “sticking with the MF” doesn’t make sense, not unless Brady meant sticking with the decision to go after Rivers instead of him.

  3. Jerry Says:

    49ers and Jimmy G.

Why is everyone banking on every other possibility but ignoring the obvious?

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

    So Derek Carr and/or Jimmy G realize they’re Jabroni’s in Tom’s eyes.

  5. Iamabuc Says:

I may be wrong, but I read somewhere that there were talks with N.O. If that’s so, then he is talking about Jaime’s (F@king) Winston!..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😲

I disagree. First Miami is a contender now. Give them Brady and they have all the weapons, including good coaching; in addition to the fact Brady knows the coach. Also, Brady said he would not have gone there anyway, so even if your theory is correct, he still could have been slighted that MIA said no.

Let us remember, Brady was reported only to be interested in Colts, Chargers and Bucs, not to say he did not talk to others.

    No to:
    * Colts and Chargers, they weren’t “sticking with” anyone
    * Saints, he would not call Bress, a future HOFer, a M….f
    * Bears, not enough talent on offense, I don’t think Gisselle would live in
    Chicago, and can’t blame her

    Only 2 possibilities:
    * Miami, TB knows the coach well, they have lots of talent, Fitz fits the bill,
Gisselle likes Miami – they are building a house there
    * SF, again, lots of talent, good coaching, TB would like to live there, maybe
TB has a good relationship with Jimmy G, but Brady knows he is light years
better, thus he would call Jimmy G a MF

  7. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I think it was the 49ers and Jimmy G.
People have to remember that Brady is a California Guy, from Northern California.
Plus, he knows Jimmy G from their time together with the Patriots.

  8. Just Sayin’ Says:

I’m guessing a NY team. Kid lives there. Model wife. They own property in the city. Both NY teams stuck with “that mother f*cker”

  9. mark2001 Says:

I think he was talking about the Chiefs…LOL.

  10. sasquatch Says:

WGAF? How many more days are we gonna hear about this stupid irrelevant crap?

  11. Darin Says:

Yeah if you want to know ask him. Theres 30 other teams that could be inserted and it’d make sense. Cmon kickoff

  12. Oneilbuc Says:

I don’t think he was talking about Jamies or any other player because that’s not how Brady carry his self .

  13. Waterboy Says:

Pretty obvious to me that he was referring to SF and Jimmy G. SF was the only other team that he was really interested in joining and the rumors of him going to SF started to swirl prior to Lynch finally coming out and saying that they had discussions on signing Brady but decided that they were sticking with Jimmy G.

I know it’s football news, but it’s got a bit of a greasy feel to it.

  15. gp Says:

OK, OK, I admit it, it was me. Due to non disclosure agreements I cannot tell you which team but needless to say, they didn’t play in the super bowl.

Joe, now that the secret is out, you can send that case of beer to my home address.

    I’m sooooo embarrassed!

come on fans. Caramel Harris finally went to Disney, I mean the border. I’ll have to admit this is 10 times more important than what she did after more than 3 months. As a career long fan of Tompa, we will find out when we play them. If we are ahead of a team 50-0, Tompa will still be passing hahahaha

    @Señor Harry in Costa Rica

I disagree with your take. First off Brady never said he was interested in Indy, there was some early feeling out by Indy but they dropped. At this point in his career, Brady is concerned about his legacy, and going to the franchise that accused him of deflating footballs is the very last place he’d represent as a QB. Second, that resonates with Brady stating that he’d never play there, even if they did give him an offer. No way in Hell will Brady ever consider being a Colt, but the reverse isn’t true. I do think Indy realized that Brady wouldn’t play there, which is why they signed Rivers, whose arm was absolutely shot. The only problem as that Brady’s comment about “sticking with that MF” comment, which would have to be reinterpreted as meaning that Indy decided to stick with their decision to sign Rivers. That strikes me more as an ego thing with Brady, as he has repeatedly beaten Rivers. On top of that, Rivers is one of the few QBs that Brady doesn’t seem to like… which stands out as Brady likes almost everyone.

Miami did not look like a contender on the cusp of 2020, and it wasn’t just the QB position. In terms of roster quality, they were well below the Saints, 49ers, Tampa Bay, Indy and Chicago as the potential destinations. Further, Brady mentioned that he’d never consider playing the aforementioned team that stuck with the MF. I never heard of Brady having anything against the city of Miami, nor anything against the franchise itself. And of course, both Indy and Miami seem like stretches as there wasn’t really an incumbent QB on the roster that the Dolphins were sticking with. Fitzpatrick was a journeyman band-aid to whomever they were going to draft that year. On those counts, Miami makes no sense to me. And by contender, I mean Super Bowl contender. That isn’t Miami.

Raiders? Maybe. Indy? Only by some strained logic that I advanced, and I’m just slinging it out there because I know he’s not fond of Rivers and that he most likely hates Inday. Miami? No, it doesn’t make sense either, no MF and no reason to hate playing there, not unless he means they’re not contenders. I’m waiting for the disclosure, but we’ll probably never hear a definitive answer from Brady.

  18. gp Says:

    @alton
When I heard she was heading to the border I figured she was planning lunch at the Bell. I give her credit for at least making it to within a couple hundred miles of the problem sites. But only because I never expected her to even get within a hundred miles of a border state.

  19. Topdoggie Says:

Come on he wasn’t throwing any one of them under the bus. Also all of them at once. He made an insert team of choice open joke. Media is just desperate for it to actually be someone so the have something to talk about.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

The Giants, his kid lives in NY, that’s why he wanted to stay on east coast. Plus head coach was is QB coach in New England. End of mystery…
