Scotty Miller Has Already Broken Out
June 15th, 2021Anyone who watched everyone’s favorite labrador-puppy of an NFL player, Scotty Miller, play for the Bucs last year knows Miller has established himself as a threatening NFL receiver.
So Joe suspects Patrik Walker of CBS Sports hasn’t watched much of the Bucs outside of playoffs.
Walker decided to cobble together a list of NFC players on each team that could have a breakout year, including Miller.
… Scott(y) Miller definitely fits the bill. A sixth-round pick in 2019, Miller was tasked with sharing the load with talent like Antonio Brown, Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Godwin and more. He was still able to carve out a niche for himself en route to producing 501 receiving yards with three touchdowns — a 300-yard increase in production over his rookie season. It’s unknown what will happen with Godwin in contract talks, but it feels like Miller takes the next step and makes the Bucs think that much harder before handing Godwin a multiyear deal.
Joe doesn’t think what the Bucs will or won’t do with Godwin is tied to Miller, or vice-versa. Miller is not Godwin’s replacement. No way.
If one were to argue the Bucs have a potential replacement for Godwin, it may be Tyler Johnson.
Miller, though Joe loves him, is pretty much a one-trick pony. He’s the pinch-hitter off the bench who is going to hit a home run for you.
If Miller was asked to do the things Godwin or even Johnson does, he would get killed. Miller is a tiny guy. He’d get broken in half blocking and going over the middle like Godwin and Johnson do.
Miller is just about perfect for his role: Come off the bench, take the top off the defense and be the power-hiter giving the Bucs a quick-strike, defense-killing home run.
And yes, Miller has already established himself in the NFL.

Jesus H. Christ. Does that guy get paid for his takes?

He opens up the deep threat leaving opportunity to throw underneath or if open hit him on a fly or deep post. Nice niche to have. One more bullet in TB12’s holster.

Agreed, Walker is talking out of his Azz. He is just writing stuff to fill up space with no real research – like most of the MSM.

Miller’s ability to track and catch the deep ball is uncanny, you can see his adjustments and comes up big time and time again. Love the kid, and you can NEVER have enough weapons on offense.

Scooter has certainly broke out in the eyes of Mike Pettine who was the DC of the Pack lol lol. We know Scotty was a part of Mike Pettine getting axed, after the NFC Title game loss. All eyes on Mike Pettine next year when the Bucs play the Bears, lol lol That dagger shot will be brought up during the game at least once lol
Bradys Dagger shot caught by Scotty will live forever on NFL Films.
I have a big smile every time I see it. Definitely one of the biggest plays in the franchise history, and Scotty’s name is all over it.

Scooter strikes me more as Desean Watson without the attitude
June 15th, 2021 at 9:19 am
Has Scotty gone done with injury?
He’s been absolute MONEY. Why bash him for something he has not gotten the opportunity to do. Imagine him coming across the middle in a wide set and some clearing in front of him.
Don’t knock it till you try it!
June 15th, 2021 at 9:34 am
Yes! There is enough game film out there of Scotty Miller that he is no longer a secret.

Patrik Walker is dumber than a box of rocks if he thinks Miller will make “the Bucs think that much harder before handing Godwin a multiyear deal.”
Did Walker read the column Godwin wrote? If the Bucs somehow let Godwin leave, it’d be a scandal warranting mass terminations in the front office.
Godwin is a Buc for Life. Always has been from Little League to now.

Love Scooter. How can one not love all the Bucs WRs, on and off the field… yeah, maybe the jury is still out on one of them.
“One more bullet in TB12’s” UZI 😎🤣🐐🔫

Miller is a Z receiver, he doesn’t have the versatility of either Evans or Godwin. Perhaps Patrik Walker rushed that piece to meet an editor’s deadline.
Miller had an excellent season within his role. I think the league is on notice that covering him with crap CBs (hello Kevin King) means big chunk yardage for the Bucs.

The Bucs have the best and deepest WR corps in the NFL
And the deepest RB stable!
Whodathunkit?
June 15th, 2021 at 10:29 am
AND the best LB corps.
June 15th, 2021 at 10:32 am
We have 5 or 6 receivers so it’s perfectly OK to have one with specific skills…..Scotty is that guy…..he goes down if he’s touched……but he can catch the deep passes…..
I like our versatility at WR.
June 15th, 2021 at 10:49 am
i dont think he’s asked to do the things godwin or johnson do…doesnt mean he cant…
sounds like when folks were saying brady cant throw the long ball….they didnt ask him to in NE…when he was forced too with us, he exceeded expectations….
GO BUCS!!!!

I agree with Joe….but it almost makes you think, was Jaeleon Darden drafted to replace Miller? Both are on the smaller side but Darden may do better after the catch and add much better value at special teams,

The columnist IS CORRECT in the possibility of a WR replacing Godwin if the Bucs and CG cannot agree to terms. He just got the wrong name. Tyler Johnson is definitely a potential Godwin replacement. The two are practically the same size, run the same speed, and have exceptional hands.

Killer Miller = Edelman/Beasley

Slypirate says, “The two are practically the same size, run the same speed, and have exceptional hands.”
Godwin runs a 4.42 in the 40. Tyler Johnson never ran due to a hamstring injury. Supposedly he dropped to the 5th round due to his speed, thought to be somewhere between 4.55 – 4.6.

Yup !

Scotty Miller is nowhere like Edelman. Edelman is a tuff guy Scooter is not. It’s funny that ‘ one trick pony’ is the truth about him, he’s not very versatile but his hard core fan base gets upset about it. He does have a nice niche carved out but if Darden gets on the field there’s a chance that might get diminished. He’s fast and shifty before and after the catch. There would be more of a chance for him to be on the field, either to stretch the field as a decoy or for deep catches plus being on special teams. Most non starters are not guaranteed a position on a team no matter how fans feel.

Darden might soon replace Scotty like Godwin replaced Humphries.
I like Scotty, but if the Bucs can get better then so be it, that is the nature of the beast.
We know Brady likes Scotty, but likes winning Super Bowls more, lol lol
We will see, but that looks like what will happen sooner or later. Just a matter of time.
GO BUCS!!!!!

Scooter had a breakout year when he had a bail out Winston’s bad throws.
Scooter is the real deal!

SM is the man. I’m glad we have him. Great guy, great player!
June 15th, 2021 at 3:22 pm
Best #4 WR in the league, hands down. We are loaded.
June 15th, 2021 at 3:33 pm
Exposing another clueless national writer on his/her lack of Buc’s knowledge. Kinda like pulling the wings off of flies. 😛
June 15th, 2021 at 5:45 pm
We are SO “stacked” at all of our “skill positions” like I’ve never seen before in our 45+ years of existence in the NFL . It’s a GREAT time to be a Bucs fan like never before ! GO BUCS !!!!

Three WR set on one side, spread out: Miller, Brown, Evans, two TE’s (pick any two) on the other.
Good luck defense.

DaBux says: “Three WR set on one side, spread out: Miller, Brown, Evans, two TE’s (pick any two) on the other.”
I think you are missing Godwin. He’s just as good a Evans and ahead of Brown.

Scotty has great straight line speed but kind of a one trick very fast pony. No reason he can’t add some variety to his game like a come back off a deep feint. Cuts over the middle will get him killed. His speed on deep routes as a decoy also loosen up coverages. But dbs know they can take deep drops which negates some of his speed. But if the Bucs were to go 4 wideouts, Miller, Godwin, Evans and AB the defense would have to cover somebody with a line backer or bring in a 5th db. And it would cause man to man defense on 3 of the 4!

Joe made Rod Munch happy today calling Scotty Miller a one-trick pony.
