The Known, Unknown & Possible Regarding Tom Brady Privately Training With Teammates

Joe sees a lot of confusion on social media regarding why Tom Brady and many of his offensive mates are training a quarter mile away from Bucs headquarters on a New York Yankees field when they have been blessed to do the exact same thing — on their own schedule — at One Buc Palace.
Per NFL rules, if a player trains on his own, he can suffer a ”non-football injury” and potentially not get paid. On team property, your player contract will protect you from injury losses.
Bucco Bruce Arians says he told veteran Bucs starters to stay away from spring practices, so they can rest. But he says he also told them they can train at team headquarters without coaches to protect themselves, if they insist on working.
Well, Joe believes the gray area could lie in whatever Team Glazer feels about this and/or told Tom Brady privately.
It’s reasonable to think Team Glazer advised Brady they would not punish any player who got injured training privately with him.
And perhaps Brady passed that message on to guys like Ronald Jones, Rob Gronkowksi and Chris Godwin, who worked with him this week at Yankees headquarters in Tampa.
Keep in mind that Joe has learned that Brady has video shot — and sometimes still photos — at his private workouts. That’s so Brady can analyze his throwing mechanics and share everything with his throwing coach, Tom House.
So maybe Brady was able to assure Team Glazer that nobody would be injured horsing around, and he could prove it if necessary.
Joe also suspects there’s a lot of ego involved. Brady made a big deal in a recent players union conference call about players not needing official spring practices and encouraged them to skip the voluntary workouts.
Lastly, about a year ago, Bucs legend Mike Alstott was on the Ira Kaufman Podcast and insisted that Brady and company would be far more productive growing as an offense practicing at a local high school. Alstott went on about how coaches can slow things down, and some guys breaking away to work on special teams can also detract from productivity.
Joe has no concerns. And Joe also thinks it would be way cool of Brady found a way to practice on the field of The Licht House, though Joe suspects it’s not in pristine (aka safe) condition this time of year.

Since Arians is on public record stating that the starters would not be on the field even if they showed up for OTA’s, it makes sense to play throw and catch somewhere else…IF, as Joe alludes, some dealio was struck with management vis-a-vis injury impact.
Not worried at all. Just hope they rest up for a long TC-through-SB win coming up.

All part of TB12’s plan to take over total control of the Bucs. Remember the ego struggle in New England. Even here in the world famous JBF comments section I’ve seen debate about who gets more credit for the turn around TB12 or Bucco Bruce.
This also allows TB12 to run the offense without the interference of Leftwich. LoL.

I tell you one thing I love…. a few years ago, when we saw a young guy come into the organization, we seemed to have no idea how good the player really was. What we saw was a guy in a half A organization, playing against players playing half A’ed, and hearing what guys that seemed to have no idea of what talent was, telling us about how those young guys looked. Thank goodness, hose days are gone.
Now when good coaches, evaluating a player against players playing full tilt, we know when they speak about the talent, they know what the heck they are looking at. Not that there might not be some “coach speak”. But still…we can have a good idea they know what they are talking about.

No starters at OTA’s mean no jacked up rookie trying to prove himself causes an injury on a starter. Not happening. Brady’s gig is safer, worst scenario pulled muscle or ankle sprain. Just getting their timing down.

As an observation the voluntary verbiage always seems to be problematic this time of year. However, it seems Tom and the other vets aren’t at the facility because of one reason: the power struggle between the NFL and NFLPA. It is all about sticking to their side. Although the NFL and owners have all the leverage in this kind of situation. If a player gets hurt they are at the mercy of the organization. Players should have bargained better if they really had a problem with this.

This is crazy that I actually agree with youngbucs that’s a surprise 😮 !! Maybe there’s hope after all that this fan base can finally come together!! If we agree with this situation then everyone should agree with us on this situation. It is stupid to take a risk like this and all you have to do is go to the facility and work on the same stuff you doing away from the facility. Why take a chance on your money , remember Denver left tackle when he got hurt away from the team facility.

It is easy to understand why players love to work with Tom instead working at the Bucs. If you have children, you can easily understand that your kids want to do their homework with their peers not with their parents or teachers.
They still have to train every day, so the injury incidence is similar.

I think Mitch is right–Tom is supporting the NFLPA position.
Other teams aren’t as flexible as BA, so their players feel they’re overworked at OTA’s and the vets league-wide are trying to take a stand with some solidarity. So counter-intuitively, Tom is being a team player here.
Plus Peyton Manning used to like to run practice without coaches help; maybe Tom likes that idea–in recent years he took receivers from Boston to Montana.

Brady obviously doesn’t want to hold his private workouts at “One Buc Palace” as he obviously doesn’t want unwanted “eyes” watching . This choice is nothing more than about Chemistry and Camaraderie and Trust . TB12 definitely deserves the benefit of any doubt about his motivations !

better for player safety at One Buc–no over zealous fans and no crazed sick of brady dominance fan to have to deal with there. Otherwise they have to bring their own security and that may get tricky.

First, I wanna say I love TB. I’ve watched his tweets, highlights, interviews, movies, time with him, and all else. BUT I disagree with him this time. He is not the head coach. Bruce asked quite humbly that any off-season practices should be done at the facility. He even said no coaches would be around (and I don’t even know why that would be an issue). He said he mentions it every day! I am sorry but I do not feel that his request should be ignored by half the team.
