GMC Loving Tampa’s Response To Super Bowl Win
May 15th, 2021Joe always liked Gerald McCoy because he was a real dude and played through a lot of pain that would put most people in a hospital.
GMC, despite not playing for the Bucs the past two seasons, is still tight with the Bucs in his heart. The six-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro still has a home in Tampa. And while he no longer plays for the Bucs, he still supports the team that drafted him third overall in 2010.
So having watched from the outside his former team finally make the playoffs and win it all, GMC thinks it is cool how the local Bucs fanbase has embraced the team.
Man having been a lifelong Bucs fan and having played for them…… Driving past Ray Jay, around the city and walking through buildings seeing all the Super Bowl Champ banners is so dope!! My former teammates and the city deserve this. So dope to see. 👏🏾🙏🏾

Joe thinks this is pretty cool coming from a guy who may have his name in the Buccaneers Ring of Honor someday. GMC busted his tail for some really ugly Bucs teams.
Joe looks at GMC sort of like James Wilder.
Wilder balled out for downright forgettable 1980’s Bucs teams. His performances were dragged down and buried.

Gerald — greatd dude. Over rated football player. Not a winner. Maybe two game winning plays in his Bucs career, that’s being generous. Soft against the run.
Ask JPP about Gerald some time, his opinion would be interesating since he played next to him in 2018.
Guys like Sapp and Beckles — ask them.
May 15th, 2021 at 1:10 am
I had a negative opinion about Gerald. So I went and watched the tape cuz the film don’t lie and I saw a beast. He was a one man wrecking crew especially his first 4 to 5 seasons. He looked way better than I had remembered. Go see for yourself you might be surprised like I was.
May 15th, 2021 at 1:12 am
Any highlight reel will make you think anyone is a stud. Watch the real games, The whole game. Especially the 4th quarter. Ghost!
May 15th, 2021 at 2:12 am
During the 2010 Draft, who would’ve bet that Suh gets a ring w/ the Bucs & McCoy never goes to a playoff game. Wow
May 15th, 2021 at 2:24 am
The guys a bum., trying to attach his name to the super bowl win. This teams hopes got better after he was replaced with Suh
May 15th, 2021 at 3:17 am
He’s on the ring of honor campaign now. Just go away. The Face of Losing.
May 15th, 2021 at 4:24 am
The highest paid Buc in history…cashing in on over 100 M…glad he’s still a fan. This seems like a nice sentiment but reeks of desperation a bit…like an ex-girlfriend “glad to see you happy now”.
May 15th, 2021 at 5:39 am
@Medicated Pete
I hear ya man. It’s a strange world that we live in.
May 15th, 2021 at 6:28 am
Looking for a job. He was sooooo over rated. He is no Suh, that is for sure. Probably begging Tampa to put him on the roster. Assuming he thinks he should be in the ring of Honor, I just don’t see it. He should not be up next to Allstott, Selmon and Sapp? Not even close!
May 15th, 2021 at 6:35 am
Nothing like waking up on a Sat morning and seeing a GMC article…..way to go, Joe….
For me…never really loved or hated the guy…..but he was a Buc and I always root for Bucs to succeed….until they’re gone.
May 15th, 2021 at 6:59 am
Gerald was a good player on a sh!t team
May 15th, 2021 at 7:10 am
I like GMC, good guy, but to say he is “sort of” like Wilder, well maybe as a good player on some bad teams, yeah OK, But, James Wilder is still the BEST RB that has ever played for the Bucs. BTW any fan from the 80’s knows how good Wilder was. And Lawrence Taylor said Wilder was the BEST RB he ever faced. Wilder should be up on the Ring of Honor. GMC is not at that kind of level, like say Warren Sapp, comes to mind as a DT that played at the level Warren Sapp played at. Again GMC was a good player, just not a great player that had the bad fortune of being drafted 1 player after Suh was by Detroit. Then GMC tearing his muscles in both arms his first 2 years. I asked the Youngry man Raheem back in 2016 if he would have drafted Suh instead of GMC and he was like “OF Course” GO BUCS!!!!
May 15th, 2021 at 7:10 am
Only took our second year after getting rid of him to win the superbowl. Should’ve traded the bum a long time ago when he was worth something.
May 15th, 2021 at 7:25 am
McCoy’s greatest accomplishment is starting to have kids by age 13
May 15th, 2021 at 7:51 am
Hard to judge McCoy harshly given the team members and coaches that were mediocre during much of his career. He played for the YUCKS .
May 15th, 2021 at 7:53 am
It doesn’t say much for the level of class among Buc fans here. The guy played the best he could on some real sh!t teams with the league’s absolute worst coaching and schemes. No curse going out the door like Doug Williams, and he still supports the team and the city. One man can’t be expected to carry a defense, or offense, that bad. Appreciate the effort. Show some class.
May 15th, 2021 at 7:54 am
good players dont belong on the stadium walls. Its not the “Ring of Perpetual Mediocrity”
May 15th, 2021 at 8:05 am
FYI….only 2 players have more Pro Bowls as a Buc…..Sapp & Brooks.
Many fans don’t give GMC the credit he deserves for that, at least.
May 15th, 2021 at 8:06 am
1Sparky completely agree. We have some awful fans in Tampa. How about this haters, he gave his blood sweat and tears to this franchise for many years and calls Tampa his home so maybe just maybe he is genuinely happy for the city and his former teammates. So many d@$&s hate him though.

Ah shucks now Gummy, glad to hear you think it’s so dope.
That means a lot to us.

ROH… ??? GMC…???
NOT BEFORE
JAMES WILDER!!!!!!

May 15th, 2021 at 8:54 am
McCoy could not hold Wilder’s chin strap in any comparison, as I see it. Yes, both played for bad Bucs teams. But when did we ever see a team not be able to stop GMC? Was there ever any game that G McCoy was in that he dominated the entire game? How many multi-sack games has McCoy had? How many 100, 150, 200-yard games did Wilder have? Call me unimpressed with G McCoy’s lifelong(?) Buccaneer fandom, was he not finally at “Home” in Charlotte? Did he not go to his “Favorite team” as a kid the Cowboys? I am happy he made his 30+ million here in Tampa, but please do not tell me he is on par with James Wilder. NO way No how. Glad we finally have a real 93 DT in Tampa Bay, don’t believe me? Just ask the former(?) Green Bay QB Arron Rodgers who he has nightmares about. 93 McCoy or 93 Suh… I saw that fear in Rodger’s eyes from Suh never McCoy.
May 15th, 2021 at 9:33 am
He’s still not SUH!
May 15th, 2021 at 9:36 am
GMC nice guy but please don’t compare him to Wilder. Guys who apologize for tackling a QB and dancing on the sideline in the 4th qtr of a game where Bucs were being hammered is not Ring of Honor material. Never made a game changing play in all the years he was here.
May 15th, 2021 at 9:44 am
Agreed with most of the opinions on here.
Good player, hard worker, nice guy, great for Tampa community. Disappeared during crunch time. I don’t remember a late game strip sack fumble or a goalline stuff in the a crucial game. What I do remember was how he blew right past the lineman and the QB
Distruptive yes, ring of honor If I voted would be no. And he had a few parting shots for the Bucs when he left. Now 2 teams later that wanted nothing to do with him he has lots of love for the Bucs again. I give him credit for still trying to earn a living. I hope someone picks him up he would be a quality back up. But just hopefully not here.
Now James Wilder was completely different. He performed when everybody on the field knew he was getting the ball. He took a beating and still gave everything thing he had on every play. Absolute Ring of Honor worthy.
May 15th, 2021 at 11:10 am
Gerald McCoy was a great DT, who wasted his best years, playing for the worst coaches and teams in the NFL.
Truly epic idiot coaches- Like Schiano, worst Coach Ive seen since Leeman Bennett and Ray Perkins.
Just Total embarrasments.
Yet McCoy also played hard, surrounded by NO talent on the line.
Always laugh at the people saying he was”too nice”
The most dangerous men in the world are “Real nice”
Paid assassins are always nice, Friendly, likable guys- so they can get close to you.
Suh would be a terrible assassin. No one would let him close!
Being a nice guy has nothing to do with being a great football player
May 15th, 2021 at 11:15 am
Swampbuc Says
“Over rated football player. Not a winner.”
I completely disagree with this statement. In his prime, he was better than Suh. Unfortunately his shelf life is shorter. And the whole winner thing…if Gerald had had a good defense around him like Suh does, things would have been different.
We went through years of bad defensive draft picks to put around him, and then Licht focused on offense (a smart decision), but that doesn’t put it all on GMC.
Take any early Bucs Gerald defensive roster and put Suh there instead. Suh would not have done well either.
I said countless times when he was here that the Bucs were wasting his good years. He could have had a huge impact…but not while he and David were the only good defensive players on the team.
May 15th, 2021 at 11:17 am
And…he actually did have more great moments than you all seem to remember. Do your research if you don’t remember. I actually have a life.
May 15th, 2021 at 11:18 am
Bucs need a Wall of Nice Guys on a RayJay food concourse.
Make Mr. Softie the inaugural entrant.
But Hell No to the RoH.
May 15th, 2021 at 11:19 am
Oh, please.
Better than Suh?
Silly daftness…
May 15th, 2021 at 11:21 am
Such disrespect from Joe. James Wilder would never wear a kimono.
May 15th, 2021 at 11:48 am
For many years Gerald McCoy was a very good player, one of few, on a terrible team. I would hesitate to say he was ever a great player, and to say he’s better than Suh is patently false, but he was indeed very good and not anywhere close to being the reason why the Bucs were terrible while he was here like some past and current posters would suggest.
In his prime, in a better situation he could have been part of a winning team, of that I have no doubt, but he was not a leader, and he did not have the mentality of a winner. And he doesn’t belong in the ring of honor.
Now in the twilight of his career, I wish him the best, but have no desire to ever see him in a Bucs uniform again. Great guy though.
May 15th, 2021 at 12:11 pm
Good to see the recognition from other fans for J Dub, The Sikeston Train, James Wilder. GO BUCS!!!!
May 15th, 2021 at 1:18 pm
I’d sign him at vet minimum to be in the rotation as a second or third stringer. The guy was a great player on some terrible teams with pathetic coaches and little help in the trenches. So yeah I’d give him a chance to play again.
May 15th, 2021 at 1:32 pm
Agree. He was a damn good Buc.
May 15th, 2021 at 1:59 pm
Great guy but I always thought he was overrated as a player. I think he benefited in a way from the coaching/GM carousel that the Glazers had going on during that period of time. When a new GM and coach joined the team he was viewed as the nucleus of the team but by the time they had time to evaluate him up close and they were out the door and the cycle restarted.
May 15th, 2021 at 2:15 pm
Sign him for practice squad…
May 15th, 2021 at 3:09 pm
Bonzai, put down the crack pipe man! Better than Suh? You have to be kidding me! McSofty was pretty good at times. Suh is a manbeast still.
May 15th, 2021 at 4:48 pm
“GMC is like Pigpen
Wherever he goes
He brings a cloud of dust
GMC brought in and than took with him the cloud of Den if Depression”
Kobe Faker
May 15th, 2021 at 4:59 pm
I like GMC better as a player than Jameis Winston.
I like GMC better as a person than Jameis Winston.
Just my opinion.
May 15th, 2021 at 5:10 pm
Gerald McCoy is a SIX-TIME Pro Bowler.
Too many Bucs fans try and blame him for some of the losing that happened during the years he was on the team. McCoy may be a nice, decent guy that likes to have fun, but unlike Swaggy Baker’s off the field antics, McCoy consistently played tough on the field.
McCoy often drew double teams and had weak players around him most of the time. Yet he still played well enough to make 6 Pro Bowls and 3 1st Team honors.
McCoy was so much better than people ever gave him credit for. They see low sack numbers and think he’s not performing well. He did so many other things on that line.
I’m a fan that says they should sign him back to the team as a rotational player and give him a chance to win a ring. He deserves it.
May 15th, 2021 at 6:50 pm
Joe, you sadist.
May 15th, 2021 at 7:10 pm
The fact the people think the Bucs sucked because we had him, and then got better because he left, is all you need to know about the people who comment here!!!
May 15th, 2021 at 11:46 pm
To this day, I can’t name a single game where McCoy went nuts and took over from his position.
I can name about 6 games for Sapp.
At least 5 for Brooks.
A bunch for Barber, Lynch.
Not a SINGLE game for McCoy. He was just a body who would rack up a stack of garbage stats in meaningless games and coast on his personality.
May 16th, 2021 at 12:05 am
He doesn’t belong in the same paragraph with James Wilder.
May 16th, 2021 at 10:52 am
Let’s say Bucs brought McCoy back. Who would wear 93? Exactly! Suh. So would a guy who wore that # for a decade yucking it up on the sidelines dancing through the losses deserve the ring of honor when he doesn’t even deserve his old number?
May 17th, 2021 at 6:53 am
Gerald McCoy is a good dude. Even though he’s trying to work his way back on the Bucs roster. He doesn’t fit. That’s why we got Suh. A player that want to kick the offensive linemen ass on the way to the QB. McCoy loves to run pass the lineman and run into the QB. Then help him up and beg for forgiveness.
