Knee ”Scope” Sidelines First-Round Pick

First-round draft pick Joe Tryon is not ready to push Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul.
Tryon has not passed a physical yet, per Bucco Bruce Arians. Tryon had a ”scope” procedure on his knee three or four weeks ago, Arians said after rookie minicamp practice this afternoon.
No reason to take any chances, Arians added.
This is especially interesting to Joe since Tryon did not play last season, opting out because of COVID-19.
Obviously, three or four weeks ago means Tryon had the scope procedure prior to the NFL Draft, assuming Arians is accurate on the timetable.

So he spent an entire full season away from football and didn’t opt to have his knee scoped until 4 months before the draft? I now have questions about his commitment to his availability to play football when needed or will this be an issue moving forward. After-all I was drafted in the first round so my job is safe. Why did he delay having the procedure so close to the draft? Man, I hate to question a guys motives.

Tryon got this done after the draft. It was probably at the recommendation of the Bucs doctors. It’s a routine clean up, professional athletes get this done all the time. Same surgery JPP and Brady had this offseason.

Don’t forget we let Michael Bennet go for a shoulder issue.
Also we managed to pick up Shaq Barrett because of a shoulder issue when the Bengals pulled his deal in FA at the last minute. This is a procedure to get his knee cleaned up. It was more then likely at the discretion of the medical staff.
Also he didn’t get it done in his year off of football because who was going to pay for it? I swear the boomer forget about things like this around here.

Easy to understand, he did all his workouts and combine on the knee pre draft at full speed. If he had the procedure before he would not have been in top shape and weight. These days it is just a tune up, almost 4 months before the season begins and he is not a starter.

@SlyPirate – Da’Quan Bowers had a full meniscus repair, and he did not love football. He loved playing in a live band, and only played well for Clemson in 2010 because he promised his father on his deathbed that he would challenge himself.
Noah Spence – had a chronic shoulder issue where he dislocated twice in his first and at least four times in a year his 2nd year in the league.
These two players have nothing in common with a kid who is getting a “slight scope” to “clean out his knee.” I am sure JPP has had five or six of these in his career, and only takes about six weeks to heal up from.
Tryon will be ready for camp, and the season when his participation actually matters.

I’m betting it was one of those times where the doctor says you can have the procedure now before it becomes a bigger problem and be ready to play by mini camp. Or you can wait and play on it this year. But eventually you should have it done. So either now or later.

You should never expect much from a rookie. If you get something, great, that’s a bonus, but you should never expect it, in particular defensive lineman, tightends, safeties (which is why Winfield was just a find) and edge rushers. Those positions you rarely get much production at.

Who knows what will happen with Tryon, But like Rod Munch said about rookies, For most rookies, the first year is not usually something great to write home to momma about.
At the same time, not a great start to his career.
BTW Dingleberry is not even close to being a hater, but an actual fan of the team like the rest of us.

Dingle stated that the pick of Joe Tyron does not make sense.
The Bucs returned 22 staters from a Super Bowl Team plus future HOF AB, who was not considered a stater.
There is a 54 man roster.
The Bucs have returned 6 of their Super Bowl OL that played last year and drafted a versatile C/G keeper Haines from Norte Dame. An NFL Team usually keeps 8-9 OLine men. The Bucs are set with returning backups Mocholon and Wells.
With Godwin, Evans and AB, wide receiver is not a need for the Bucs.
Gronk, Brate and OJ are the TEs, so there’s no immediate need for a TE.
ROJO, Lombardi Lenny, Bernard and Vaughn are the backs, so there is no immediate need for a back.
Before the draft, the Bucs only true needs on offense were a backup QB, as Brady was the only QB on the roster for the Bucs at the time, and an OLineman.
DT are Gholston (listed as a DE, but is shifted inside as a DT numerous times), Vea, Suh and Nacho. DT was a need, but the draft was weak in DT, and like him or hate (I love him, as he helped win a Super Bowl for us) HOF Warren Sapp, who knows way more about football than Dingle could ever dream too know, said the Alabama DT was a dud. Never hurts to have depth in the trenches, but DT prospects in this draft were not good. 3-4 Defense NFL teams usually carry 6 DLineman.
3/4 OLB was an obvious need for the Bucs, because without Shaq and JPP we really have nobody to put pressure on the QB from the DE position.
At LB we have David, White and Minter, so LB is a need. LB depth is very important for injuries as well as special teams. NFL teams who run Bowles 3-4 scheme need 8 LB’s, so LB was a need for the Bucs in the draft.
SMB, Dean, Davis, Edwards, Whitehead and Winfield are grave diggers. Our secondary is strong, but it never hurts to have depth at the secondary because of injuries and special teams. The Bucs did add quality depth by signing Green Bay Safety Greene. NFL rosters usually carry 8 secondary players so this was not an obvious area of concern.
HOF GM Bill Polian says the 3 most important positions are QB, LT and DE.
In the modern day NFL you need guys to rush the passer. The Bucs had 2 great ones entering the draft in Shaq and JPP, and that’s it. If one of those guys goes down our defense is dramatically effected, making this a huge need for the Bucs.
5 of the top 6 3-4 OLB were off the board when the Bucs drafted. Tyron was rated in the top 6 for 3-4 OLB, and all 6 went in the first round. The 3-4 OLB class was deep, but after the top 6 there is considerable drop off.
Wether you like Tyron or not, it’s absolutely ignorant for people like Dingle to say that the Bucs drafting a DE/3-4 OLB makes no sense when the DE position is literally one of the Bucs biggest needs going into this draft.
He first hated on Trask, and now he’s hating on Tyron.
Dingle is not a Bucs fan, he’s a Ndog like Buc hater.

I am sure the Bucs knew Tryon had his knee scoped before they drafted him. I don’t think this kid should be judged until the middle of the season or maybe later. We have to remember he didn’t play last year so it’s going to take some time for him to get into football shape and shake the rust off. Oh, and he is going from playing college ball well over a year ago to playing professional football for the world champs, behind two guys who are sitting at or near the top when it comes to their position. So let’s give him a chance before we start labeling him. Gaines Adams? Come on

Outside of the great Leroy Selmon, our history of drafting defensive ends/edge rushers is pretty bad. Unless we somehow didn’t know about the injury, I’m not too worried. Licht is freaking golden right now and I trust him.

My alarm bells are going off……why on earth wouldn’t he have gotten the scope months ago so he’d be ready for the rookie mini camp? And how did he screw up his knee sitting out? Training should not lead to injury, otherwise it’s bad training.
