Bucs GM: Tom Brady Doesn’t Say How Long He’ll Play
May 11th, 2021It sort of felt like Super Bowl Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht started chanting ”Six More Years” yesterday during his appearance on Peacock network.
Joe is referring to Licht’s visit to The Rich Eisen Show, where he was asked about Tom Brady’s future.
”Did he give any indication at all how long he wants to play?” Eisen asked of Brady’s chatter upon recently extending his Bucs contract through the 2022 season.
Licht replied: ”None. I want to keep all those conversations, most of them private, but no inkling at all. I told him if he wants to play until he’s 50, and he feels like he can still play, he can play til he’s 50.”
Mr. Seven Rings turns 44 in August, and playing until he’s 50 would mean six more Bucs seasons (assuming Brady stays in Tampa).
Of course, the flip side to Brady’s silence on his future is he could retire after this season, something Joe considers likely if the Bucs put another ring on Brady’s finger or Brady has a significant injury.

Brady will play as long as TBBF wants him to play…..so there, it’s settled.
May 11th, 2021 at 9:30 am
The only way that Brady will be able to continue his dominance and to win many more championships when he retires is by coaching. Don’t be surprised. I think Brady would make a heck of a coach.
May 11th, 2021 at 9:34 am
^^^ YEAH!!! You go TBBF! bc I know how you think…
May 11th, 2021 at 9:45 am
The only way Brady continues another 6 years is if we continue to upgrade our offensive line. The moment we let contracts and money dictate the strength of our O-line, will most likely affect Brady’s decision to retire.
May 11th, 2021 at 9:46 am
Brady has said for years that he has no desire to ever coach. So unless he suddenly changed his mind, I wouldn’t count on it.
May 11th, 2021 at 9:49 am
Brady doesn’t say because he doesn’t want to start an argument with his wife. I would be good with another 2 or 3 years.
May 11th, 2021 at 9:49 am
I think Giselle might have something to say about that.
May 11th, 2021 at 9:59 am
Easy for the wife to tell him to retire. Just as easy as it is for her to tell him to play again if he were to retire. Keep goin til the arm cant go anymore Tommy
May 11th, 2021 at 10:03 am
Brady more likely to buy a team than coach one. Even with his middle of the pack contracts, he is likely the richest NFL QB of all time when you consider his appeal outside of football and the money that his wife makes
May 11th, 2021 at 10:07 am
i think brady is chasing that undefeated season or 10 SB rings!!!!which ever comes first!!!…the coaches know it and so do the players….
imo, if he gets the UDS this year, he’ll retire….as he should…
if we lose a couple games but still win the SB, brady will go for 10 SB rings….
i think giselle knows it he’s going for the undefeated season or 10 SBs too…lol…
GO BUCS!!!!
May 11th, 2021 at 10:10 am
the only coaching brady will do is for the HS his sons will attend….Berkley prep or jesuit or tampa catholic….lol…
he’s not coaching college or NFL…for what?…lol…
GO BUCS!!!!
May 11th, 2021 at 10:15 am
Brady will play until it isn’t fun anymore. We should just enjoy it until it is over.
May 11th, 2021 at 10:16 am
I think 813 has it right. We’ll see. Quite the season coming up.
May 11th, 2021 at 10:44 am
Brady is worth over 100M there’s no shot he’s gonna coach and put in all the extra work for only 5-10M per year. If the Glazers would be willing to sell him a piece of the Bucs then by all means go for it.
May 11th, 2021 at 10:58 am
813 nailed it.
Only three things will make him retire
1. A perfect season
2. 10 Super Bowl Rings
3. Father time finally catches up
May 11th, 2021 at 11:08 am
6 years 500mil get it done Bucs!😂
May 11th, 2021 at 11:16 am
Three or four years. The legs are my only concern. He didn’t move great in the pocket last year. In 2016 he made a concerted effort to improve his foot work in the pocket, and it arrested the declination in his game. I know for a fact that his knees in particular gave him trouble last year, so hopefully the surgery fixed his good knee. He deals with pretty bad arthritis in the knee he tore up in 08. That won’t get better. He also had an achilles injury late in his time with the pats.
Running the ball will be the key for this team again. Brady’s immobility in the pocket dictates it. His arm is fine. it’s the last thing to go. Y’all had better pray the line stays healthy, or he’ll look really old really quick
May 11th, 2021 at 11:40 am
He plays two years max your body tells you when its time.
May 11th, 2021 at 11:55 am
Brady got to reign in his woman. Can’t be having some chick telling the GOAT when to retire

There is about a zero percent chance Brady ever becomes a coach.
May 11th, 2021 at 12:14 pm
This year could very well be his last . I said it before drafting trask . Just because he can play couple more years doesnt mean he will
May 11th, 2021 at 12:22 pm
Dude said he didn’t move great in the pocket last year.😂
May 11th, 2021 at 12:25 pm
He said he wanted to play until he’s 45. That would be this season, and next. He has two more years of contract, so my guess he wants to plat two more years. If he wants to go past that he’d better clear it with the war department, that would be his wife. I don’t think she’ll let him play more then that since she’s bugged him about retiring already.
May 11th, 2021 at 12:32 pm
There is zero chance Brady will retire after this season. If he did, he would cripple the Bucs cap situation for next year. No way he signs the extension he signed, nor would Licht allow him to sign it, if he was committed for two more seasons.
May 11th, 2021 at 12:55 pm
*wasn’t
May 11th, 2021 at 1:25 pm
Giselle or no Giselle, contract or no contract, if his body gives out he’s gonna have to retire. 44 is awfully old for a football player.

“TB12 was playing GM last year
Bringing in players that will succeed in his scheme
Wouldnt doubt TB12 going to the FO under Bud holding Licht and then run his own team
When Brady cant evade the rush and the next moderate lower leg injury, Brady will go out
Which can be any week”

If we’re going to throw fantasy numbers why not 12 super bowl rings? 6 in NE and six in TB
May 11th, 2021 at 3:39 pm
If we win this year, Brady stays at least one more. He has a chance to build a second dynasty, and I think the love he’s shown to Trask has to do with his understanding that GOAT status would increase if Tampa is still competitive after he’s gone (he built it). What a godsend this has been. Even better though, it’s amazing how Licht, Arians and everyone in the organization stepped up to the plate once this happened. Perfect offseason this year, two great back to back drafts. If Trask is even competitive, with the defense we’ve built, the Den of Depression will never come back.
May 11th, 2021 at 6:51 pm
Don’t forget, if he wins one more Super Bowl he’s out of fingers.
May 11th, 2021 at 7:19 pm
When I think about the possibilities if Brady wins again this year, i envision at least 2 more seasons because of 10 being “In Sight”.
I also dream of the argument one day of dis Brady have more success in NE or Tampa?
The possibility is real
May 11th, 2021 at 8:15 pm
If he wins his 8th this year. He is not stopping till he gets 10. He will smell blood in the water. If we manage the roster and salary well, this team is built for a run.
May 11th, 2021 at 8:20 pm
I think and it’s only my opinion, Brady will play if his team is a serious Super Bowl contender. That’s why he left New England. Belicheck didn’t want to field SB team, so Brady left for a team he thought could get him another ring. Wont leave the Bucs, there all in. GO BUCS!
May 11th, 2021 at 8:28 pm
813bucboi
You left out the hat trick
Three in a row
I think he wants that one as well
May 11th, 2021 at 9:49 pm
Brady will retire after attempting the 3 peat, win or lose.
May 11th, 2021 at 10:16 pm
I, personally, think THIS IS IT.
I think this season will be Brady’s last, win or lose.
I think if he wins again and goes back-to-back, and knowing how hard that is, that it would be a perfect time to walk away from the game, going out on top, a la Elway. Wins his 8th ring and rides off into the sunset.
I also think if he doesn’t win the SB this year he also retires. He knows our cap situation and how hard it will be to keep the team together. It’s also a great story that he went to the Bucs, played two seasons, and won one Super Bowl (if that’s the outcome).
I’m sure he doesn’t want to play his final years (multiple of them) not winning SBs.
The guy has proven all there is to prove. Going to a losing record team, in another conference, and winning a SB in the first year…at home in the SB… there’s really nothing else that needs to be added to the ‘resume’ and his incredible story. 7 Rings is an awesome number to finish on, IF if does.
