Gronk talks Tom Brady
One day, Rob Gronkowski will get through an interview without being asked about Tom Brady.
That was not the case during his recent appearance on the Greeny podcast.
There, Gronk talked about his childhood — lots of competition and “lots of brawls as a kid growing up.” But he also was asked how Brady walked into One Buc Palace and created a culture.
“I would say the manner of how he carries himself when he steps on the field,” Gronkowski explained. “The tone that he brings to the team, you know, to the meetings, the tone that he brings out to the practice field. I would say that’s where it truly all begins. You know, he’s not just going out to the practice field to practice. He’s going out to perfect what we’ve got on the table that day. To perfect the plays, to go out there with a purpose. And with the tone that he brings, it just sets the mood for everyone else to get better at the same time.”
Man, Joe loves these inside-Brady looks.
Gronk added that “we work really hard here” and noted that Brady is the leader-in-chief but has been a gentler version of himself.
“He definitely toned down his yelling and all that, you know his mini-tantrums that you see every once in a while,” Gronk said.
“That was toned down big-time this year for sure, being in a whole new organization and everything. But it’s all for the general purpose of a bigger cause, you know, to get his teammates on the right track. It’s not just to yell to just yell. Whenever that happens, it’s to yell to get the players motivated or to get you to do the right thing — to get your mind right so you’re ready to go the next time you step out on the field.”
Joe loved the “mini-tantrums” description, but Joe also suspects Brady will bring those back in 2021.
Fighting complacency will be critical for the Bucs, and that starts as soon as the team gets back together for practice.

Tampa has moved back up to the top of the betting odds for winning the SB, at least in terms of wagers and money being put down. I think it is to be expected based on the offseason, but as a lifelong Bucs fan, I hate when we’re favored.
The issue is, when you win, well, you were expected to win — but when you lose, OMG the sky is falling. It’s so much easier, and honestly more fun, when you’re the underdog. But I’ll take it if it means winning another one.

Off the subject, but I read the other day where people were upset that someone said Scotty would struggle to make the team. The Bucs will carry only 6 WR this, if they’re healthy going into the season that. They won’t need an extra receiver because their return man is also an actual receiver.
1) Evans
1) Godwin
1) Brown
4) Darden
5) Johnson
6) Miller
Miller will make the team, but will be the last receiver to do so. And when you add in Gronk, A healthy Howard, Gio Bernard and Brate, Miller will see a huge reduction in playing time and we won’t see him get many snaps. If you ass in LF and RoJo in the run game, Miller is probably our 12th or 13th option, depends if you put him in front or behind Brate…

to make the team. I love the guy and his underdog story, now back to setting a roster for a SB run . Scotty is very limited in what he brings to the table. There will be other options available for the last receiver spot, not just the ones he’ll see at OneBucPlace

Make no mistake about Brady knows how to win it not just luck. 21 years no losing seasons double digit wins every time. We all know how nfl rosters change he is the constant. And it’s because of the little things that matters big.

I agree. Miller is not better than Johnson going forward and I think Darden is already a better receiver than either, especially after the catch. I just think he hold on to that last spot, unless they see something in Pearson, Jansen and maybe Franklin that we don’t know they see. I like Scooter also, but he is extremely limited and while people love to see him go deep, the numbers say he’s not even all that dangerous of a deep threat. His ratio of successful deep routes to actually deep routes ran is not all that great.

You can’t be serious. And his route running is as bad as anyone who has ever played in the league. Don’t be surprise when you barely see or hear Miller name even if he is on the roster next year. Out of Evans, Godwin, Brown, Darden, Johnson and him, he will easily have the least amount of snaps next, barring a lot of injuries. And that makes us better!!!

One reason I’ve followed Brady for about 20 years: He desires perfection. The perfect route, pass, block, tackle, game, season, or career – he wants to achieve perfection from himself and all on his team, and that’s what (IMO) makes him so competitive. He’s OCD to a point and craves dominance. It’s been pure joy for me to watch him pivot to a new team last year and translate the pursuit of perfection to the whole Bucs team, which amazes me. GO FOR 2, BUCS!!!!

I think they have something to shoot for this year that is greater than a Super Bowl repeat. That is to achieve the moniker GTOAT. Greatest Team Of All Time. What a great motivator to play for such a title, even if unofficial. Brady is just the one to motivate those around him to strive for such excellence. He sees it I’m sure. He wants it I’m sure. And he’ll work his butt off to make it happen. It could be a very special year.

Super article Joe; love those ‘inside-looks’ at various players. Bucs have had a decent number of talented players since our 2002 SB victory IMO, but it took a Tom Brady to really teach them what it takes to become champions. He won’t allow this team to become complacent.
Yesterday’s ‘Strength of Schedule’ article though still has me puzzled. There’s an implication in there not just that Brady’s Pats won the AFC East so many times because the competition sucked, but also that Brady has had it ‘easy’ as a result. Horsepuckey.
During Brady’s 20 years with New England, the Pats played in 40 playoff games. Brady’s record? 30 wins, 10 losses. Of those, they were in 9 Super Bowls. His record? 6 wins, 3 losses. Add in his 2020 with the Bucs, and Brady’s record in the playoffs is 34 wins, 10 losses with 7 SB championships. You don’t achieve those kinds of results against the best competition in the playoffs each year without being an exceptional leader on exceptional teams. An ‘easy’ strength of schedule may have been a factor in helping the Pats get to the playoffs, but once in, it’s their performance … LED BY TOM BRADY … that allowed them to achieve such a dominant record.

Any argument that the Patriots’ regular season dominance had to do with a consistently weak AFC East is ignorant nonsense.
The Patriots have the best record against their division AND the NFL’s best teams since 2001.
While the Patriots’ are 86-24 against the AFC East since 2001, their winning percentage (134-44, .753) against everyone else is the best in the NFL. They also have 25 more non-division victories than any other team. This was accomplished while playing a first place schedule nearly every year. The 2021 season will be just the fourth in Brady’s career (2003, 2009 and 2020) that he won’t be playing a first place schedule.
New England’s record against eventual division winners (24-14) makes them the only team in the NFL with a winning record in this category. Against teams who eventually made the playoffs in a given season, the Patriots (60-33, .645) are the best in the league. The Steelers are second with a .480 winning percentage.
The Patriots’ success against teams who finished with a winning record (75-45, .625) is also an NFL-best mark. The Steelers again were second with a .440 winning percentage.
The reason the AFC East was “weak” for the last 20 years was largely due to the fact that the Patriots were so good. The rest of the division repeatedly changed coaches (more than 20 head coaches for the other three teams since 2000) because none of them could compete with the Patriots. Obviously, it’s hard to build a successful program when you’re changing coaches every few years. Bucs fans know this all too well.

Deliberate practice is hardly limited to brady, but its a great trait. Walter payton for example. I suspect hes the best at it the game today.Minitantrums i love. Sometimes people have to be pushed, like it or not. All candy in the diet is a massive world problem on many levels
