Leading up to the NFL Draft, a majority of prospects are advised by their agents of when they’ll be drafted.
The advice is not always accurate.
Take rookie Bucs linebacker K.J. Britt, the Bucs’ hard-hitting pick in Round 5. Per a feature on SI.com, Britt was advised he’d be a fourth-round pick. Instead, the Bucs took him with the last traditional selection of the fifth round, just prior to eight supplemental draft selections.
Man, Joe would be sweating. Imagine thinking you’re going at No. 125 and you’re taken at No. 176, like Britt was.
No worries for Britt, though, he’s fired up now, but coming to Tampa will mean giving up the Alabama country life he adores. Britt is an avid rabbit hunter and, per the feature, cares for 10 beagles that assist him.
“During the offseason or anytime football is over, rabbit hunting is a big source of my joy,” Britt said. “I make sure that my dog kennels are intact. I love them, man. It’s country living.”
Joe has a great feeling about Britt making the roster and fitting right in under Devin White’s wing.

There’s plenty of rabbits around here too. Dont kill em all tho Britt! The universe still must go on. Also not much difference between 125 and 175. Comes down to need at that point. We’ve all seen guys go three to four rounds later or earlier. The Seahawks and Saints love taking guys 3 rounds early

As a domesticated bunny owner, one that has full reign over the house and is potty trained, don’t like the rabbit hunting.
And I don’t care what people say, I don’t like keeping any animal in a cage of any kind.

I have a Beagle/Foxhound mix and man is he vocal. It’s definitely the Beagle in him because we’ve had/have a Red-Tick Coonhound and a Plott Hound and they are/were nowhere near as vocal.
Thankfully we have a house with a good sized yard.
In fairness to K.J., we do have to crate him when we leave the house. While hounds are loyal as heck to their humans, they are scent hounds and will put their nose down and take you for a ride when they’re on the hunt. It’s the breed.
K.J. looks to be a nice depth piece. He’s a hard-nosed LB who likes to hit and has a nose for the football.

Anyone making a comment about dogs in cages, get over yourselves. Bet none of y’all vegetarians. How do y’all feel about the Hogs/Cows/Chickens y’all eat daily, and how they’re treated. It’s an animal. And by the looks of it, they seem to be living well and taken care of.

If you have lived the country life you would know you don’t make house pets out of your hunting dogs, you do provide them with safe shelter for what ever weather that is custom for your area, you feed and take care of them i.e worm, deflea and other such. You love them regardless, but keeping them in a pen does NOT mean they are abused or neglected.

Just because those dogs are in a crate doesn’t mean they are abused. I would bet he treats those dogs like his children and the crates may have just been for feeding time. And must people don’t know that rabbits will use a litter box if you provide one for them.

If these dogs spend the majority of their non-hunting time living in these chicken coops, that IS pretty cruel.
For all you idiots using ‘strawman’ arguments and Whataboutisms about cows/pigs/etc. (food sources) being kept in cages too, it isn’t relevant to someone keeping their dogs in cages like this. Dogs have a completely superior intellect and nervous system than cattle. They’re scientifically proven to have greater emotional feelings, reactions to trauma, etc.
There’s no way to spin this… it’s incredibly cruel to these dogs to keep them in such a confined space. “Crating” a dog is done for temporary reasons, not to make it a permanent confined space to live full-time in.

When I see a pen like that I think of puppy mills and there is nothing positive about them.
I stand by my comments. There is nothing pleasant about a caged dog let alone one small pen containing multiple dogs.

Talking about dogs in cages is a emotional judgment.
Actually those dogs are in those elevated pens for good reason and safety. They get plenty of out of “cage” time before being put back into safety.
If you know anything about the breed they are programmed for scenting and hunting. He would lose 2/3 of his dogs if left outside on their own. They catch a scent and the primal switch clicks and they will be 5 miles away before they stop for a rest.
I’d bet those dogs are healthier and happier than your overweight house dog.

I don’t believe in cages for animals. I had a tenant that hunted rabbits quite a bit. His beagle lived in the house with him. I don’t believe you need 10 beagles to hunt a rabbit. You would use 10 hounds(longer legs) to hunt foxes on horseback.
It’s very interesting to hunt rabbits with a beagle. The dog has short legs and can never actually catch the rabbit but forces him to run in a big circle to come back to where you first saw him. Then you take him out with a shotgun.
I am a vegetarian but I don’t condemn hunting rabbits. In some places like Australia, it’s necessary to keep the population down but now it’s illegal to own a shotgun in Australia.
You don’t use 10 beagles to hunt rabbits, Britt is a breeder. They cost too much to feed to have 10 hunting dogs.

I LOVE dogs (currently have 4) and I totally get both sides of the argument here, but you have got to understand that different breeds of dogs have been bred for hundreds of years to do specific things. I had a beagle for many years and she was a lap dog (which any breed of dog can be if you bring them up that way). However, beagles were bred to hunt and there is nothing in their world that makes them happier then to do so with the exception of maybe getting love from their humans.
I don’t hunt rabbits or anything else for that matter, so I don’t know the specifics, but I seriously doubt that KJ is abusing or mistreating his dogs in any way. I’d have an issue if he is keeping his dogs in a cage for hours on end, but I doubt that that is the case. I mean, crate training is a thing and it’s a regular practice for dogs to sleep in their cages at night. All but one of mine sleeps in the damn bed with me and my wife, but there are folks that won’t allow that. 😜

Nothing wrong with it at all. Pet shops do it. The pound does it. Pet adoption places do it. Many dog owners do it.
I had a pet dog that if we told him to go to his room, he would go lay in his cage.
And as far as everyone complaining about hunting rabbits, nothing wrong with that either. These are not the domesticated rabbits you own as pets. In fact, some states have hunting season for wild rabbits for population control.
And rabbit can be tasty.

Really like Britt he should be glad where he landed. He probably gets a ring his rookie season. Not a fan of caging dogs at all I don’t care where you live. Dogs have it kind of rough in this world as it is. They seem there just to do a task and that’s all their worth. Didn’t even talk to them. Shame to me bad representation of his character. I smell a Michael Vick. Just sayin.
