Promising Kyle Trask Numbers
May 1st, 2021While Joe has yet to see a wild gator (and has no desire to see one and has zero interest in going places where there might be one), Joe has lived in the Sunshine State for enough decades to know how folks roll.
Seminoles fans, Gators fans had to tolerate your quarterback with the Bucs. Now, you have to tolerate theirs in Tampa Bay.
Unlike with Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, new Bucs quarterback Kyle Trask, chosen in the second round last night by AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, is not expected to be a savior. He also won’t be expected to start as a rookie.
As long as he can stay upright, the starting quarterback job belongs to park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.
That’s just the way it is.
For those still feeling uneasy about the selection, consider that Trask was one of the best quarterbacks in college football last year. And his coach, Dan Mullen, has produced very good NFL quarterbacks including Cowboys’ two-time Pro Bowler Dak Prescott.
The way Joe sees it, unless Gisele Bündchen forces Brady to retire or he gets injured, Trask won’t be starting until 2024 at the earliest.
The Bucs select Kyle Trask!
Trask BALLED out at @GatorsFB! He led ALL FBS QBs in these categories in 2020 👇

Exactly joe because no matter how much some hate Brady. He’s playing at an elite level. Trask might not see the field till we pick up his 5th year option lol. The Bucs are winning the draft again!!!
May 1st, 2021 at 8:22 am
Wasted pick………..truly
May 1st, 2021 at 8:23 am
@Youngbucs…. Remember 2nd rounders do not have 5 th year options. I hope this guy breaks the tradition of UF QB’s. What a great opportunity for him! If he is going to be anything he has the best available chance in this situation. If he doesn’t what a shame it will be for all parties….
May 1st, 2021 at 8:24 am
Why does Jason “Beer” Licht alsways bomb in the 2nd round?????
WHY JASON!?!?!?!?!?!?!
……………this pick will bomb like Vernon “Marshmellow” Graves II
May 1st, 2021 at 8:28 am
If he could develop sufficiently to give Brady a break, especially when we have a big lead, would be helpful. And maybe even fill in and keep the ship afloat a few games if Brady is out for a few. The guy shouldn’t have to carry a big responsibility for a few years.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:28 am
It can’t be worse than Aguayo so why not? Let’s take a QB and let him sit and learn at the feet of the master.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:30 am
I saw some posters here …where this move will piss off brady
I dont think so…plus im sure coach and licht was approved by brady
Brady has been given everything he wants here
Brought in gronk for 10 mil -check
Brought in AB who nobody would touch – check
Brought in playoff Lenny – check
Resigned every player from last year super bowl – check
Signed a receiving back Bernard – check
Let brady give input on plays to run – check
Its far from rodgers situation in green bay. My brother told me green bay has drafted one offensive weapon since they won their super bowl. And it was the qb (replacement) they moved up in first round to get
May 1st, 2021 at 8:33 am
@ m0j0
It’s bad pick cause the Bucs truly do not to pick a QB for the next 2 -3 years…….
What a waste Jason GUMP!!!!!!
May 1st, 2021 at 8:34 am
You don’t put up those kinda numbers in the SEC unless you have a lot of meat on your stick.
Among some in Buclandia, familiarity does, indeed, breed contempt.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:35 am
Some Bucs Fans: “Kyle Trask’s numbers were only that good because he had great receivers to throw the ball to”
Jason Licht: “…so do we”
Best JL one-liner comeback I’ve heard
😂😂🤯
May 1st, 2021 at 8:36 am
You know who else had a noodle arm, and no mobility? Joe Montana.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:37 am
Anthem
Donovan smith , ali marpet, rojo, carlton davis, SMB, antoine winfield
Justin evans (just freak foot injury)
I would not call that bombed
May 1st, 2021 at 8:37 am
I’m an FSU fan and I like the pick….especially at pick #64 (one pick away from being labeled a 3rd rounder). He couldn’t be in a better situation. Excited for this off-season and watching him grow too!
May 1st, 2021 at 8:38 am
I thought this was a great pick. Trask is used to waiting for his chance and he can learn from the master. He has all the skills and how anyone can call this a wasted pick from. GM who needed nothing is ridiculous. Same old trolls. Winning a super bowl did nothing to increase Anthem’s football IQ.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:39 am
I’ll be honest….I didn’t think we should have picked a QB at all this year…..and I think many others agree….
But, I’m not taking that out on Trask…..like every other Buc draft pick for the last 45 years….I support them….congratulate them….and hope they are productive players.
Am I supposed to believe that the geniuses that won us a SuperBowl have turned into flaming idiots?
Licht, Arians, Leftwich, Moore, Christiansen and Tom Brady go out and pick a bad prospect…..I think not.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:41 am
TheBucsAnthem It is hard to respond to people that don’t know football.
People shouldn’t have to tell you our entire draft was going to be back up type folks. It will be very hard for a rookie to start anywhere on this roster. As of now the QB room is Brady and Griff. We need 3 and we needed an upgrade over Griff… The team is built to win now this was a great pick that will help them do that god forbid Brady gets any kind of injury.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:44 am
You know Brady was involved in this pick. Do any of you consider the fact that Brady may have said privately that this will be his last year?
I think that is a strong possibility. If Brady, Licht and Arians wanted Trask. I’m good with that.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:50 am
@CChead: Brady is signed for two more years. He has stated he wants to play through 45. He is 44 now. ’22 is his “45” season.
I suspect, injury notwithstanding, we won’t see Trask as the Alpha until the ’23 season.
May 1st, 2021 at 8:54 am
Virtually every decision Jason Licht, B.A. and the rest of staff have made in the last 2 years has been somewhere between SOLID & FREAKING BRILLIANT! Bringing in Brady, Lenny, Gronk, drafting White, Whirfs, Winfield Jr., Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller, Sean Bunting…
Then figuring out how to bring EVERYONE BACK after winning the damn Super Bowl!!!
Their decision making has been incredibly strong lately so I’m going to give them a chance on the Kyle Trask pick. He’ll get to learn under Tom Brady’s 20 plus years of experience, this amazing coaching staff and an unbelievably talented team with fantastic leaders!
Seriously people give it a chance for crying out loud.
May 1st, 2021 at 9:04 am
@BucsAnthem,
This is the year we can afford to gamble and “waste” a pick. We are NOT one stinking 2nd round rookie away from implosion or glory (depending which way you look at it). Give me a break. Think about the doomsday rhetoric for a minute before you write IDIOT across your forehead.
Whether he pans out or not, we still have to make an attempt at getting some arms. When Brady leaves, we are going to have an issue if we don’t have a succession plan already in place. At this point, it could be Blaine, if we resign him, or maybe Trask, or maybe a FA. The point is we all know Brady can’t play forever, and he’s not going to be coaching in retirement. This is QB U as far as I’m concerned, and if the kid can learn from the GOAT, this is a win-win. We don’t have to hope and pray a #1 overall pick will be our savior. Trask can learn and develop into the role without pressure. The kid doesn’t have to be Brady, he just has to be good enough not to F the place up with 30 INTs. He has shown that in his college resume. We have enough talent around him.
This makes so much sense, you’re either a fool for not understanding it or you’re just a Debbie downer. No viable QB was going to be waiting for us at #95.
May 1st, 2021 at 9:11 am
Trask was the ultimate risk/reward pick. Depending on how he progresses, this does not preclude us from getting another QB in next year’s draft. But, we need to get started on the succession plan now, while we still have Tom Brady in the building. This gives us at least 2 years to groom our future QB to learn from Brady or we go the FA way.
Personally, if Brady is healthy, I don’t see him walking away until he gets his 10th SB. If we go back to back, I can almost guarantee Brady will be thinking about 10.
May 1st, 2021 at 9:15 am
The Bucs’ hierarchy obviously saw something in Trask that they feel they can work with and hopefully mold into a starting NFL QB. He’ll be sitting for 2 years & will have the enviable opportunity to learn from the best. If it all works out, we’ve just hit pay dirt. If not, this is the year to ‘waste’ a 2nd Rnd pick. Time will tell. Give him a chance.
May 1st, 2021 at 9:23 am
Its Ryan Griffen the QB we’ve been grooming?
Unlike Trask, Griffen checks all the boxes!
Trask biggest issue, is going to be the the dreaded sideline out patterns.
Its where the WR goes 15 yards down the field, turns suddenly and heads to the sideline. It is critical in keeping CBs tight on their guy.
A QB has to really wing it, hitting his WR just before he goes out of bounds.
It was one of Jameis’ favorite interceptions. Not because he lacked arm strength, but because he loved to throw it off balanced.
You’ve all seen it. The WR turns toward the sideline, the CB is behind him.
Suddenly, a duck goes floating toward the sideline. The CB sees it, races toward it- straight ahead to the end zone.
Winston’s first pass was that pattern. He threw is without confidence- and it was a pick six.
Now, go watch Trask play. His sideline throws lack velocity.
You can often get away with that in college. The cornerback from basketweaving university isnt gonna react that fast.
But in the NFL, everyback can jump that pass.
Thats Trask.
Meybe they think they can fix him with better technique or mechanics.
But in a league that is absolutely STARVING FOR QBs- you dont last until the last pick of the Second round, unless the league thinks you are terminally flawed.
We have heard and seen Ryan Griffen’s great arm strenth.
His velocity to the sideline is top notch.
Hasnt our great staff been grooming him? If not, what the heck has he been doing for 5 years? Making coffee?
Sorry so long. But it doesnt make sense to bring in a flawed rookie, when we have a guy in house- that has been with our great QB gurus, has better physical attributes, and just out of boredom- should know our Playbook better than anyone.
It makes no sense.
I recently saw a post of Brady, Gabbert, and Griffen at a UFC fight. This was taken since the Superbowl. Brady obviously likes him, Im sure hes been helping him.
Bringing in a fundamentally less talented guy, just doesnt make sense.

Bird
First round qb woulda gota bad review from Brady. Not basically a third rounder. Right now he’s the backup qb so not sure why anyone had a prob with it. Someone wants to roll with Griffin? Talk about ill advised. Take the garnet glasses off and watch him play objectively. Nobody cares about anyones feelings for college allegiance. They’re getting paid now so put your big boy pants on.
May 1st, 2021 at 9:46 am
Exactly which SEC team is ‘basket weaving university’?
May 1st, 2021 at 9:50 am
I get the sense Gabbert is done here. Griff was/is cheaper and extremely well versed in the Offense. He’s also a great wingman when you only drink once a year and get daybombed.
We will not be carrying 4 QB’s.
In BA I Trust!
May 1st, 2021 at 9:53 am
Draft is total crap shoot. First rounders bust
50%. Average career of NFL players 3.5 years. For quarterbacks the fail rate is huge. Teams roll the
Dice and wait, and the wait time is definitely shrinking.
May 1st, 2021 at 9:58 am
If Bucs pull off back to back SB wins. Brady very well could retire. Even if its 2 years what better group of coaches and the GOAT to develop under.
May 1st, 2021 at 10:08 am
It seems pretty obvious that the coaching staff didn’t think Griffin was the answer.
May 1st, 2021 at 10:25 am
What was the question?
May 1st, 2021 at 10:30 am
Darin
What the hell are you talking about?
I mean seriously
Did you even read the post
First of all, i did not go to either florida or florida state
I commented on people thinking this would upset brady. I said it wouldnt cause brady is the guy and bucs have given everything he wants
Now put on your little boy pants
May 1st, 2021 at 10:44 am
To all the posters saying it’s a wasted pick…we don’t need a QB now..
You are exactly right. We don’t need a QB now. That’s the best time to get one. The worst time to get a QB is when you have to get one. Look at the desperate teams like bears… having to trade up throw away high draft picks to roll the dice..
Trask…no one knows if he will be great..but neither do the teams picking a QB in the first round or 7th round. Don’t let emotion cloud your judgement.
May 1st, 2021 at 10:50 am
>>>Exactly which SEC team is ‘basket weaving university’?<<<
Missouri School of Journalism and their triggered professors.
May 1st, 2021 at 10:53 am
It seems pretty obvious that the coaching staff didn’t think Griffin was the answer.
What was the question?
…………………..
Um………….”Who is gonna take over when Tom retires?”
May 1st, 2021 at 10:57 am
I’m not a fan of the pick but it’s too late to do anything about it now. I wish the best to Trask and hope he can be a Buc for years. Raise the sails , and steady as she goes into day 3
May 1st, 2021 at 11:13 am
Trask is not a starting QB in the NFL, at least not for a good team. He’s the guy you start for 1 year so you suck enough to get a high draft pick and draft a real QB.
May 1st, 2021 at 11:14 am
Yeah all the Built in Drama of former Seminole QB vs new Gator QB…. Is Oh! So Nice!
Who cares?
GO! DAWGS!!
May 1st, 2021 at 11:22 am
Cobraboy
You know who else had great production in the SEC? Johnny Manziel.
It doesn’t mean as much as you and others think it does
May 1st, 2021 at 11:44 am
Don’t know about this pick. The Bucs sure have the staff to get a QB going. We’ll see. I’m supporting him though.
May 1st, 2021 at 1:32 pm
Ryan Griffin, clipboard holder, Bradys guide on land for Super Bowl parades. A known quantity, Trask is unknown with the possibility of being starter after Brady.. GO BUCS!!!!
May 1st, 2021 at 6:38 pm
The best stat to me was 8 interceptions with those 43 touchdowns.
He only forced the ball in his last game because his normal receivers would not play that game.
May 1st, 2021 at 11:34 pm
He’s a Buc now so I don’t care what college he went to.
