”This Is A Ready-Made Deal”

April 30th, 2021

New Bucs QB Kyle Trask.

Former longtime college head coach and Ravens offensive coordinator Rick Neuheisel, a former quarterback himself, loves the Bucs’ selection of QB Kyle Trask in Round 2 tonight.

‘This is a ready-made deal,” Neuheisel said on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Neuheisel said Trask is the rare college QB who has learned out to play in empty [backfield] sets, as well as have great timing with elite NFL-caliber weapons, 2020 first-round picks tight end Kyle Pitts and WR/RB Kadarius Toney.

In addition, Trask knows how to be a backup, which the full NFL Radio panel says will be important. Trask was a backup in high school and started his Florida career the same way.

Joe will note that Neuheisel is not someone who loves every player. About 15 minutes after the Bucs picked Trask, Neuheisel was barking about how he didn’t like the pick of QB Kellen Mond to the Vikings out of Texas A&M. It seems Neuheisel’s son coached at A&M.

Joe will repeat; preseason is going to be awfully fun this season.

  1. Chris Says:

Hey guys our 2nd round pick “knows how to be a backup.” What an effing joke.

  2. Durango 95 Says:

It better be “a ready-made deal” because with Trask there ain’t much upside.

  3. SB Says:

Laugh all you want Chris but that is what he will be until TB12 leaves.
Stop acting like you know what it is like to be a GM you dolt.

  4. Brett Says:

I believe Rick Neuheisel was the Bucs replacement QB during the NFL strike, 1987.

    ……………..

Yeah because he didn’t just score 69 passing TDs to 15 Ints in only 19 games.
    Idiot.

  6. Pete I Says:

Knows how to be a backup?

    LOL

  7. Medicated Pete Says:

When we need depth at Guard or Edge late in the season, KYLE is gonna look great sitting on the sideline w/ highlights in his hair

  8. unbelievable Says:

My concern is that he was throwing to 2 first round picks in college…

And has mostly been a backup.

I think he can learn from Brady but in my completely uninformed opinion, there were other QBs who may have had more upside and could have been taken later.

Oh well, he’s a Buc now and I’ll root like hell for him! Go Bucs!

  9. Jerry Says:

Chris, we have 22 starters returning from a SB team. EVERYONE we pick in this draft will be a backup next year. Every single pick.

  10. SB Says:

Howdy UB. He actually threw to 4 WRs in 2019 that went to the NFL
So 2020 was an entirely new group of WRs. That is versatility I think.

  11. SB Says:

    @jerry
That is hard for some to understand.

  12. Erick Says:

Some people will never be satisfied. Whoever was picked would be a backup and play sparingly at best. Same people were crying last year when Winfield was taken instead of taking a RB.

  13. Leighroy Says:

Pete, did you remember totake your medication tonight? They drafted an edge last night and Aaron Stinnie is still on this roster.

  14. gp Says:

    @Joe
I thought you truly hated preseason?!?

  15. Scott Says:

waste of a pick iffy first pick but tyron does have athletic ability needs more pass rush move and use his hands better i would have went for his teamate levi instead

  16. SB~LV Says:

I have a hunch that the Bucs will trade up with the Vikings and call it a night… Vikings have 3 3rd round picks

  17. Chris Cotten Says:

I called it yesterday, helluva pick

  18. JA Says:

This staff and GM just coached and put together a Super Bowl champion, yet many here profess to know more about football than they do.
I don’t come here for the articles, which are informative, I come here to read the takes from those who claim to know everything but know nothing.
You guys crack me up! Keep the BS rolling!

  19. BradyBucs Says:

JBF Posters apparently know more about scouting than the Bucs Organization that just won their 2nd Super Bowl. LOLZ

  20. Durango 95 Says:

Huge Gators fan and I’m totally pulling for Trask. Just can’t see any upside for him at the next level. 2nd round pick on a likely 3rd string QB.

  21. RGA Says:

Trask drops dimes, one of the most accurate QB’s I’ve seen. I think the Bucs got a good one.

  22. admin Says:

I thought you truly hated preseason?!?

One Joe loves preseason. The other Joe loathes preseason to his very core.

  23. Ben Says:

I thought mond was their guy but Trask could pan out. Mond was a 4 year starter and didnt post top end stats so maybe there was a little “what you see is what you get” with Mond. However, Trask seems to have progressed as a starter. With Brady and some NFL coaching, perhaps in a couple years he could be a really good QB. I am putting this in perspective, I am not sold on him. I was hoping for a CB or another pass rusher.

  24. RGA Says:

Did any of you naysayers actually watch Trask play football?

  25. Ben Says:

Bucs do need to start trading up. No way these 5th onward picks will make the team. Essentially wasted. Make them count and go get your BPAs!!

  26. David Says:

I think he has a great opinion when talking about quarterbacks. He knows his stuff. I agree about Trask. He was throwing to NFL talent, he was making the right decisions, he can move in the pocket, and he’s very accurate.
BL will be able to coach him up as he learns from Brady for the next year possibly 2.

**This pick tells me there’s a chance if they go back to back, Brady walks off into the sunset.

  27. Scott Says:

jensen to much money next year cappa stinnie got to get paid suh will probably retire our cb and safeties get hurt alot winfield has injury history in college but safety is a injury prone position every good team couple injuries from tanking i guess jason thought resigned all 22 starters we dont need depth they wont get hurt lol but we got kyle trask in case tom brady the goat gets hurt come on man

  28. Bucanero Says:

I feel like 2020 was such an outlier and this just feels like regression to the mean. I hope he can practice his skills as a bench warmer for a long time.

  29. Deff Jeff Says:

The hate on this pick is so predictable by our delusional fan base. All the kid did was produce at an elite level. The weak arm comments are also a joke. Go Bucs

  30. Dirty Bucs Says:

SB- Let me guess, you’re a Gators fan huh?

  31. kaimaru Says:

For everyone trashing him about his arm. Per the Draft Network:

Trask’s lower half may need to be reconstructed as it is the root of why most of his passes die in the deeper portions of the field.

So it’s his base and mechanics from the waste down is why he loses power and velocity. That can be fixed and with Brady, BL, and Clyde Christensen will help him fix that.

    ——

Yes, saw all his Gators games, many of them in-person. Still don’t like the pick. Some of you would be well-served separating your college team favorites from your NFL team draft picks.

  33. BradyBucs Says:

MANY OF THE SAME PEOPLE CRYING ABOUT THE TRASK PICK WERE CRYING LAST YEAR THAT LICHT GAVE UP A 4TH ROUND PICK TO SECURE TRISTAN WIRFS.

  34. SB Says:

Yes. I am a Football fan first.
I supported JW2 fully from the day he was drafted.

  35. Ben Says:

Bucs need to trade up! LFG! Need more quality depth at CB, guard, lb and DL

  36. ElioT Says:

Loving the draft picks so far.

    Go Bucs!!!

  37. BradyBucs Says:

    Durango,

So you didn’t like watching a guy throw for 4,300 yards passing and 43 TDs with only 8 INTs? LOL.

    ………

Some people don’t deserve to call themselves fans.

  40. Oxycondoms Says:

He must be good gator fans are overhyping him like they did with their lord and savior

  41. Pewter Power Says:

I’m good with this pick as long as he’s not Ryan griffin’s backup

  42. Scott Says:

wasted pick more pressing needs and cisco gets picked next he will be pro bowler soon

  43. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I simply can’t believe the negativity…..this guy will have at least two years to learn from the best QB in NFL history….he’s got great coaches….
And….FYI….he will have Pro Bowlers to throw to…..

    So…..we trust Licht & BA until now?……something ain’t quite right….

  44. SB Says:

TBBF……..you are reading comments by 75% Idiots

  45. Hodad Says:

I’m glad he knows how to be a back up. In case you chuckle heads haven’t noticed, we friggin don’t have one! Griffin? Hasn’t played any meaningful football in nine years, and has never played a regular season game! Garbage Gabbert is gone. The same Gabbert who Arians has known full well for a long time. Some idiots say look at the talent he had around him. It works both ways, look at the talent he played against. Arians, Licht, Lefty, Clyde, and Tom Moore made this pick. I’ll take their football smarts over you armchair GM want to be’s any day.

  46. Scott Says:

apparently nobody here wants the bucs to repeat if were drafting for depth if trask plays were not winning sb alot of other player could have filled roles if injury bug hits not to mention salary cap woes next year

  47. BradyBucs Says:

    SCOTT,

Whats your scouting & publication web site on draft expertise? I’d like to read about your past scouting reports & analysis to see how you’ve done.

Please go ahead and link to your credentials since you claim to be able to scout NFL players.

  48. Pewter Power Says:

Reminiscent of the fan posts about what Winston was gonna do when he got drafted. Everyone comes into the league with holes in their game. Licht you can get two chances at drafting kickers but quarterback? Get that wrong and…..

  49. MadMax Says:

Folded into pressure….is what it is

Seriously wasnt expecting QB in the 2nd…2 more years left in Brady, couldve waited till next year, but what do i know…SMDH!

  50. Rod Munch Says:

Scouting reports are all over the place on Trask.

Some say he has a noodle arm, that anything deep will die, and in the NFL that means you can’t throw deep since in college you can complete those, but in the NFL they are INTs. But other reports say he has an average arm – which is fine by me, then others say he has a strong arm.

But multiple scouting reports said he can’t drive the ball downfield, and one suggested the issue isn’t his arm, it’s just a poor lower body, which can be fixed. So if he doesn’t have an NFL deep ball, but it’s just that he needs to workout and fix his footwork, then that’s not really a huge issue.

They also say he’s immobile, but who cares, the offense is built for an immobile QB, and he’s still going to be dramatically more mobile than Brady even if he’s ‘immobile’ by the standards of a 23-year old.

Also some sites say he’s excellent and quickly reading defenses, while others say he’s slow at processing info — again, no it’s all over the place.

Hopefully the Bucs nailed this one — if they did, then it’s an excellent pick. Even if he’s just Mike Glennon, and can be a good backup, I’m OK with that compared to Garbage Gabbert being back.

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Well, I like the pick. This draft is all about drafting backups with potential to start. Trask fits the Brady mold, which our offense is built for.

Brady backups tend to do well and increase their value. I support the pick.

From here on, it is up to the player.

  52. Bucsfan81 Says:

Don’t know why people are so butt hurt over the pick. If there is anytime to risk wasting picks it’s now when the roster is stacked not during a damn rebuild when every pick counts. Plus this team has done worse see said kicker in the second round.

  53. VABucsfan Says:

I have a question for all the idiots saying we should’ve taken a G/C there instead. What round did Stinnie go in who just filled in for our SB run? I’ll wait!

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Rod Munch, amen to that! I don’t want Gabbert either!

  55. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Keep in mind, we spent a #1 overall pick and 5 years and multi-millions of dollars on a QB that got us absolutely nothing….

  56. Bucs Guy Says:

No mobility, struggles reading defenses, didn’t play under center, slow release, 5 fumbles in 12 games. But other than that …

  57. Scott Says:

im no expert but jason makes alot of mistakes but he has drafted some great players too and i dont mean to put trask down but we had more pressing needs was my point

  58. BradyBucs Says:

    HEY ROD (and others),

Go to YouTube right now and search “Kyle Trask vs Alabama highlights” and it will bring up the game from 12.19.20, just a few months ago.

Watch that video and you will change your mind on this “arm strength” and not “being able to drive the ball downfield” stuff. It’s not true. He throws plenty of strong passes in that game including long passes.

Pay attention to his ACCURACY. He’s amazing. Rifle passes… accurate. Short dump offs, accurate. Long passes with air under it to lead his WRs, accurate.

And he’s throwing to some future NFL WRs and deliver it perfectly to them while also playing against ALABAMA which has many players on that Defense that will be playing in the NFL soon.

  59. Davenport Says:

There is nothing wrong with having a good back up QB for 5+ years. Even if he never becomes the starter, he will understand his role and won’t become a problem.

Either way, I trust BA to know a good NFL QB when he sees one.

  60. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – I’ll give it a look tonight after the draft is over.

  61. SKBucsFan Says:

I hate it when Licht picks guys that play for a Florida school. There are always posters on here that think it’s the steal of the draft because the homers only watch their team. I wish the kid well, but be prepared to have to defend him when the Bucs stink.
Our managment team bats .500 at best with first rounders and .125 with 2nd rounders. That’s hard to come back from when your dont have Tom Brady, or Aaron Rodgers to attract players.

  62. Buc4evr Says:

Well at least we don’t have to pay Gabbert 5 mil a year and Trask will be great on the practice field…. I don’t ever see him as a starting QB.

  63. BradyBucs Says:

    CONSPIRACY THEORY:

Did the Bucs bring back Griffin but not Gabbert because Gabbert wears #11 which is Kyle Trask’s number? 😉

  64. Scott Says:

i mean get excited about trask fine but if winfireld gets hurt ouch nobody dean well we saw how that worked out first kc game -wr seems to be the only position we have covered and rb we dont even have backup center

  65. NDog is an Idiot Says:

    Buc4ever
Agree to a point but no one saw Brady as a starting QB as a draft pick either!

  66. firethecannons Says:

Rather have this guy for small money as our backup then Blaine Gabbert who has absolutely no upside and cannot win us a game. With some top of the line coaching and guidance this kids arrow is pointing up! Hope we get some cornerback depth in next round.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

BradyBucs – Actually I just went ahead and watched it…

My verdict? I see a college QB with good ball placement who is doing touch passes, which will not translate to the NFL, and I can see what the reports saying he doesn’t drive the ball are talking about.

With that said, he didn’t really need to drive the ball, so it’s hard to take much from watching that. The Bama defense is full of NFL talent, but they were not running an NFL scheme, it was a bunch of one-on-one plays with no safety help, which is pretty rare in the NFL.

I’ll watch some more film, but ideally I’d want to see him drive some deep balls. It’s not just about throwing deep, you have to do it with velocity. But the Bucs know this as well, so I assume he’s passed that test with them. I just want to see it myself, and I’ll watch some full games in the weeks ahead — not that it matters to anyone else.

  68. Scott Says:

brady buc go to youtube and watch highlights of andre cisco i watched them and was like wow then saw chris simms say he is his number 1 safety he stands out could be wrong but chris is former nfl qb and gets paid to evaluate and will

  69. REDZONE BA Says:

@Scott – I am hoping JL takes a flyer on Hamsah Nasirildeen – 6’4 Safety with lightning speed and length in 3rd round. But if Brady suffers any injury this year and we need a fill-in for a game, Trask will be better than Gabbert. Not flashy but safe.

  70. Craig Says:

Critics have said Tom Terrific had a noodle arm when he left college, they also said it before last year.

I like Trask, he was a bit slow on a couple of decisions last year, but he set records in the SEC coming off a bench for UF.

When it comes time, Trask can run this offense and no one will look back at what was before.

The only person who might suffer is Ryan Griffin, but he is paid well enough not to care. If thee is another preseason. Griffin will set new records and hang out on the bench.

  71. Scott Says:

brady bucs watch andre cisco highlights and listen to chris simms talk about him everbody got ther opinion

  72. matthew veal Says:

    Im a biased gator.
Trask is more similar to brady style wise and physically than the current backups and most of the other draftees.
That helps for timing in practice and continuity if trask gets in a game.
Saves money, no pressure for playing time that other positions might have.
This will be a good pick even if brady is replaced by aaron rogers or even jameous winston
Other guys might have better careers without being the right fit here. Shooting for the hof on every pick is not the best strategy imo.
Gator fans love trask, thats worth something.
Its a good pick business wise. Depending on how you define sucxess i like the odds here. I suspect joe does too.

  73. Miller5252 Says:

Hope they made a good pick here, a little worried. Bad thing is we didn’t even get a guy who can be on special teams…. all these starters and these draft picks need to be able to make the team doing more the. Just their position.

  74. Ash Says:

Lol guess time will tell but wasn’t really thrilled about the pick but it is what it is go bucs

  75. Craig Says:

    @Rod Munch

It is not about if you can toss a long ball; it is about knowing when to toss a long ball.

Trask threw it when it worked, as does Brady.

    Durango,

So you didn’t like watching a guy throw for 4,300 yards passing and 43 TDs with only 8 INTs? LOL.
    ———-
He actually threw for over 7300 yards 69 TD’s. w/ only 15 INTs.

    Go Gators!

    Don’t like the pick.

  77. SteveK Says:

    Love the Trask pick.

Now snap up Quinn Meinerz or another “big sexy” for the Offensive or Defensive lines.

  78. BradyBucs Says:

    Rod,

LOL. His pass at 3:01 in that video to Pitts (travels 35 yards in the air) is the same velocity that Brady puts on the ball for a pass of that length.

If he truly lacked arm strength “that didn’t translate to the NFL” he would have been projected as a UDFA.

He was consistently projected as a 2nd day pick (2nd or 3rd round) by the vast majority of draft analyst sites.

  79. BradyBucs Says:

    Durango,

I was just referring to this past year’s stats.

  80. Capt Kidd Says:

He sounds a lot like “The Bull” Brad Johnson. Tall, average arm, smart, not highly rated or drafted but won a SB and had a pretty good career.

  81. Scott Says:

brady buc nfl .com analysis on andre cisco most insinctive ballhawk in draft can read qb eyes the analyst words on nfl draft order tonight nfl.com he had 13 interceptions in 24 games and runs a 4.3 at 6 ft 206 hits ball carriers like a ton of bricks

  82. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Rod, specifically what is the difference between what Bama runs and an “NFL scheme”? Please break it down by position. And down and distance. And opponents. Good lord.

  83. Jason Says:

I like the pick. I trust the Bucs coaching staff & personnel department until they give me a reason not to. Kid had 4300yds 43 TDS 8 INTs in the SEC last year(Burrow type numbers). Oh, but he had Pitts and Toney. Mac Jones and Tua played with 4 WRs drafted in the 1st the last two drafts (Judy, Waddle, Smith, Ruggs). Burrow had Chase & Jefferson. Nobody mentions those. The argument is irrelevant. This situation for Trask is the perfect incubator. He has good touch, timing, and stands tall in the pocket to deliver. Arm strength is average. 6th QB taken like Brady. Too much not to like it. Everybody else is reading into mock drafts & player rankings do form their opinion SMH!

  84. DingleBerry Says:

It’s no coincidence that only Gators fans like this pick.

Well, Gators fans and idiots who think the SEC is the NFL.

  85. SteveK Says:

    Oh baby! Who’d we get?

  86. MadMax Says:

We picked a 5th with our 3rd…smdh, smacking my head, ok then, at least its O line!

  87. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The young man came straight off the bench, and got 19 games had perfect rhythm with an offense that had been playing without him. How can you people discount 69 tds and 15 ints as if they never happened nor matter. If you all remember it took the GOAT over 12 games to fully get in rhythm with our players and coaches. You same people will all hail the “power of Brady” when it comes to the team but seem to think he can’t influence Trask and have him prepared to start in 3 years. Crazy

  88. GoFor2 Says:

The same people that hate this guy are the same people who LOVED the Jamoist pick. He was the ultimate bust!!!!

  89. Blue coffee Says:

Trask is potentially a very good QB.
But now, he is not TB12.
If TB12 is injured a rook QB like Trask will not be able to win enough games to go in the playoffs. If Brady fall, we are done. Trask is a project. A good project from my point of view!
The criticism can only be: are we not in a win NOW mode? If yes: then i would have go with a back up for a position to help the team now. Not a QB who will be ready in the futur in 2-3 years. Unless you think Trash can do as good as Brady if Brady is injured. And if Trask is that good in the absence of Brady to win it all, then what? When Brady return from his injury, do you keep Trask on the field or not?

Do you remember Bledsoe? Brady and Aaron Rodgers do. That’s why Rogers want out from GB. Love is good. And that’s the problem. Because Rodgers can see it in practices. What if Trask look good, or do well if Brady is out? A conflict between QB is not what we needed.

But otherwise, at this position in the draft, and for the long run, I love the pick. It’s the timing of the choice for our futur QB that is my question. We could have take a later QB, this year, and take an 1 round QB in 2-3 years when Brady will choose to retired.

And if Trask play it soft and go along well with Brady, it’s a good thing to have Trask for the TEAM,… on the long run. But now?

I hope, and I think, Trash who is used to be a back up, will be a perfect fit. I see a risk. But for the team, it can blossom as a great futur. It’s to the coachs to glue this team now! And in BA we believed!
I am very optimistic for our BUCS! We can be the next dynasty! You hou!

    GO BUCS!

  90. Oneilbuc Says:

A lot of yall don’t know but Brady had to sit a year and a half .

  91. Jerry Says:

Most teams that lose their starting QB for more than a couple of games is pretty much done.

If Brady went down last year, how far do you think Blaine Gabbert would have got us?

  92. JGhotier Says:

Some Bucs’ fans: “Trask’s stats were only that good because he had all those great receivers to throw to”

    Jason Licht: “…so do we”

    😂😂😂

  93. Jabowski Says:

You armchair QBs are laughable. Kyle Trask can sling it and was a Heisman favorite for the majority of the year. He was a great pick and a 1000% better than Ryan Griffin

  94. OneBucc55 Says:

The irony with Trask is he’ll be a much better QB than all three of Florida’s Heisman Trophy winners…Im an FSU fan and I like this pick; Trask is literally tailor made for our offense…

  95. Colin in Canada Says:

I love this pick. Trask is perfect for the Bucs offence.

  96. SOEbuc Says:

    Jabowski

You can’t sling it in the NFL with his bad mechanics.

  97. MarkR Says:

I like this pick . Trask has an accurate arm, plays well under duress and played in a prostyle offense. If Tom needs to rest a game or two due to minor nagging injuries Trask can step right in and play a lot lot better than Blaine.

  98. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs get off Brady nuts you salty a$$ 🤡.

  99. Youngbucs Says:

I lot of y’all don’t know but at 43 Brady had the 2nd best season of his career!!!!!! And has shown no signs of slowing down!!! When you have someone reliable at QB all other decisions become easier. Thank you Bucs thx Tom Brady!!!!

  100. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs you worship Brady and now you mad 😠 the bucs drafted a quarterback lol 😆🤣😂!! Go play outside with your friends now ok !!!

  101. unbelievable Says:
