OK folks, we are back at it. Bucs have two picks tonight.
Comment on anything and everything throughout the close of the draft, including the expected second- and third-round picks of the Bucs at Nos. 64 and 95, barring a trade.
Who should the Bucs target? Will there be curveballs and surprises to push a player within range of the Bucs trading up? Have at it fans, but please do play nice.

One of those inside LB’s should be there for the Bucs. They’ve added edge depth and if they could get a pass coverage LB to backup David, that would be huge with JPP and David getting up there in age.
Going interior offensive line is another good option, and Licht has excelled at his OL picks, so I’d basically have full faith in whoever they picked if they go that route.
But I think LB’s are going to take longer to develop, so when you’re building for next year, I think you get a year ahead… however Brady is your most important player by far, so if you’re planning on needing a new center or guard, you might want to get one now and see them for a year in practice before you put Brady behind them…

I keep hearing the Bucs/Trask rumors (I like Mills better personally), but if they are rated close, I wonder if Davis Mills would edge Trask out due to him being a captain and Trask not being one 🤷♂️

JOK is a great player, but he’s kind of an in between guy. Lots of teams don’t know if they should use him as S or LB. I’ve seen him a lot and I think he can play LB easily in the NFL.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them use some late rounders to scoop another 3rd round pick. Don’t think they have enough ammo to get another 2nd without giving up 1 next year. This year’s draft isn’t that strong to begin with.

@ Buc Guy- I was thinking the exact same thing, almost too tempting to pass up Ossai or Ojulari if they are still there at 64. Wouldn’t hurt my feelings if Nick Bolton magically slips that far and we get some depth behind Lavonte and White.

To Dale Moore was one of my dudes in this Draft, but that post selection interview was kinda weird.
He must’ve nervous, or wanted to go somewhere else I’d assume.
That offense is starting to look lethal and really multiple in what they could possibly do w/ guys CNN like Hopkins, Murray, Moore, Kirk, AJ Green and Maxx Williams. RB situation is iffy though, but I’m sure this offense will be more air-raid and moving the QB off the spot (mixed w/ the dual threat option). Should be an interesting offense to watch this year, especially w/ Kingsbury at the helm.

If JOK is a tweener, that would be your perfect coverage LB. David is undersized for an inside 3-4 LB, that hasn’t hurt him in the least. I don’t know much about JOK except for seeing him as the biggest faller in the draft, but if he falls that far, based off extremely limited info, I think I’d like the pick.

Drunkinybor – The coverage of the NFL draft used to be vastly superior to the crap they do today where they talk about the guys being drafted for about 10 seconds, then spend 15 minutes doing social just messages and repeatedly show the same idiots in the crowd over and over again. It’s absolutely terrible to watch, and it’s just programmed for women, which is why they show as little about football as possible.

JOK played at 210lb? No wonder he fell, that’s is really really small for a LB, needs to be at least 225 to be considered ‘undersized’ – not sure what 210 makes you. But I never understand why teams don’t just switch things up if they have a special talent who doesn’t quite fit a mold.

And whys everybody want a Center so much? Those take years to groom. Many times you see older vet guards convert to C to finish their careers.
And i think most of the time when a college C is drafted they play more Guard then anything in the NFL.

Our Bucs have amazing D. Would love to see JL pick up 6’4 FSU Safety Hamsah Nasirildeen as developmental player – who would benefit from Bowles coaching and give us some depth. Maybe day 3 pick up… great potential w our coaches.

If it’s someone in round 3 or the end of round 2, I’m guessing it would be Mills (or maybe Trask, but I hope not).
Otherwise I think they might target Mond or Franks in the 4th. Maybe even Newman.

I want a Returner too, but better value to wait until Day 3. Avery Williams being that guy. Look up his tape/highkights and stats. He’s a Special Teams phenom. Tops in the nation in return TD’s and I think he even has like 4 blocked kicks to go along w/ it.
Not only a late round replacement for Ryan Smith, also a DB, but offers elite return capabilities….and blocks kicks as the cherry on top. Look him up, you won’t be disappointed. Promise!

Mond is not lasting till the 4th. I only think there is one possible team to take a QB before us now. NO has the great Jay Miss, so maybe they won’t. Hopefully, no one trades up. I can’t imagine the Kittys got Darnold and will draft someone before us. We may have our pick of those three. I sure hope we believe in one of them! In Bud Licht I trust (now).

I think any of these 3 QBs would be a great pick for us: Mills, Mond, Trask. I’m not as sold on Trask, but some of the guys that make their living doing this think he’ll be a good pro. Gabbert and Griffin are not the answer, I know that!

Doctor Stroud – if you can play, being undersized isn’t a huge issue anymore as you can play off the line and escape getting jammed – but less than 150lbs? He’d have to be Spud Webb quick and explosive to play at that weight, and even then I think it’s a long shot. Anywho, I know nothing about the guy, but 149lbs seems unbelievably tiny for the NFL.

Trey Smith will be a steal at anytime in the 2nd or 3rd. The kid can play. Mauler upfront and smart. Health issues are a concern and he needs to work on his footwork but he’s an option if he falls out of the 2nd for a trade up scenario. With Bolton gone I’d consider taking him but I’d look at the CB position. Love our 1st rd pick. Keep the foot on the pedal with the defense

Don’t draft a QB, just signed Rodgers when Brady retires. We’ve won two SB’s, both with old ‘washed up’ veterans. You don’t need a young QB when you’re not going to sign them to a 2nd contract anyways.

Carolina and Saints are so stupid. Carolina has protection issues, but not picking a OT. Friends of mine that are Panther fans all wanted an OT at #8 and here they still don’t have one going into the 3rd round. Saints don”t have CBs on their roster, but they haven’t picked one yet. Guess they’ll rely on undrafted free agents.

Im not too thrilled with the Saints picks.
They are stocking up hard on Defense to try to stop us. Over the years their D has owned us I admitt…….Playing the Saints is going to be our toughest games this year IMO…..and its because of their D.
If we run into a D that can limit our offense……a explosive punt specalist could come in handy. Just sayin.

Absolutely bad pick JL. Thought you got over your poor 2nd round pick problem a few years ago. Not BPA, not a need. Not good depth. Wasted pick IMO. Should have picked someone who could play some in 2021.

Gang, I hate the Gators as much as any Cane fan can, but Trask has that ‘it’ factor which may translate to the NFL. The comparisons to Jameis are bunk. Trask is VERY accurate which is a trait that other QBs can not learn nor translate at a higher level. Without the pressure to start, he’s got a chance to step up his game and get even better.
Besides, did we really want Bbbbbbbblaine back for $5 million+ per year again?

If you think Trask has an INT problem, you clearly only watched one game. The guy is extremely accurate.
He’s just a tree, and doesn’t have a huge power arm. He does have decent touch on deepish balls though. But not a huge zip in close range

No prob FtMyersDave. The problem with some of these players are they only show the splash video plays. But Perkins was blown off the line by average OL and gave up big yardage in run plays. Just like Gmac.

I’d love to see the actual formula they use to decide who gets the picks and why the Bucs always seem to be on the wrong side of the cut off (like getting the first 4th round comp pick for Kwon instead of a third….

Since there is no point in judging players or a Draft class before they gave even played a SINGLE game in the NFL…never mind a couple years to truly tell, I will say that we are building depth like a MOFO!
(When you bring back every starter on a Super Bowl team that dominated the biggest game of the year versus the “best” team in the league, that’s what you do and they are doing it at some of the most important positions on the football field)
Have to see if it works out, but it’s super smart strategy!

His arm is not week like some are saying. It’s just average. Not the tightest of spirals and wobbles slightly at times. For his size, you’d think he’d throw it harder though, but it’s not weak.
Watch the flea flicker play against Arkansas. The RB laterals the ball back to Trask horribly, it hits the grass, Trask picks it up from the field, doesn’t have time to set his feet, throwing motion or step into the throw due to a blitzing defender breathing down his neck. But he is falling backwards away and to the side when he launches it downfield…and it goes 55-60 yards downfield for a completion.
Their are plenty of great QB’s who didn’t have a cannon or average arm and their are plenty who did have a strong arm. He can make the throws necessary. It’s average, not terrible. It’s not an end all be all. His stats show it didn’t come close to end all. Florida and SEC is no joke either as we all know.
I personally wish he threw a tighter spiral and more consistent w/o the wobbly balls as C often, but that’s just my preference. Doesn’t mean this kid’s arm is weak or sucks though. He’s plenty able. His intangibles, football smarts and retention are too-shelf. I’m an FSU fan btw. To get him at #64 (one from being able to say 3rd round instead of 2nd) is just fine.
He’s got potential and hasn’t even played that many games in his career. His stats last year are nothing to dismiss or try to qualify. He had a good season….especially for someone w/ hardly any experience, playing at a storied pressure packed CFB school/program and in the best conference there is, the NFL of the NCAA.
He couldn’t be in a better situation either. Dude hasn’t even played his 1st game or season yet in the NFL.

JGhotier – I pulled up highlights from the Arkansas vs UF game highlights, and I must say I like that film a lot better than his film vs Bama. On that flea flicker, to me, it wasn’t that great of a play, it floated a bit too much, BUT watching the plays before that, I saw more of an NFL arm. I had watched a Bama vs UF highlights, and in that one they were all touch passes and he didn’t drive the ball at all, looked pretty weak to my eye, but this this Arkansas game gives me a lot more hope. I’ll have to watch more stuff, but just seeing some 20-30 passes with velocity is what I’d want to see, those are the plays you have to be able to make in the NFL. It’s not throwing it 50 yards that matter, it needs to get there quickly in the NFL.

I can get on board w/ that assessment of yours. I do disagree about the flea flicker play, but tomatoes/tomotoes!
Also, remember he was dealing w/ multiple hampering injuries (a whole other topic of discussion) towards the end of the year and his play was reflective and indicative of that.
He’s only going to get better and learn more and more over time. Only 12-13 something games of experience and playing time. So why’ll not amazing right now (but definitely doesn’t suck in the least) he should only learn, get better and go up from here (which is encouraging). And who and what better regime and SB Champs to do it under. The intangibles and smarts are a great foundation and impressive.
I personally like the size too, but again that’s just preference.
I’m a Bucs fan so I don’t like typing this, just thought A LOT of the comments on or regarding him (and this soon when he hasn’t even suited up for us yet, nevermind a season or two) were off-base, unaware, unfair, and in some cases not accurate).
Sucks he wasn’t picked literally ONE pick later so we could dismiss the people saying “w/a 2nd rounder”. It’s one pick away from saying 3rd round. It’s why I think it’s better to judge the draft value by the pick # and not round. Pick #64 to get him is nothing egregious IMO. It’s just about the right draft slot for him (and you saw that w/ Mills and Mond coming off the board just minutes/picks later).

You absolutely can not fault Licht on his OL picks. It’s not who I thought they’d take, but Licht has done an amazing job with the OL picks, so no one should question this one. Also, as a former tackle, who is going to play inside, he gives you some depth at different positions, which is a positive.
I don’t know enough to say anything else about him, but, again Licht has proven he knows more about the OL prospects than any websites or even other NFL teams, so no one should be whining about this.

Can never go wrong w/ trenches picks ANY Draft. Depth. And usually Notre Dame OL pan out more than most and are usually more developed and NFL ready.

JGhotier – the first scouting reports on saw on Trask were pretty negative, at least in terms of what you’d want for a deep ball offense. I do agree with you in that if he’s a 3rd round pick, people are going to be dramatically less harsh on judging him, but the run of QBs started right after this pick, so he went where he should have went. If the NFL’s scouting report is accurate, and his pro-comp is Brad Johnson, I’ll take that!
Will be interesting to watch more film on him.
