Trust In Todd Bowles
April 30th, 2021The numbers crowd made Joe think more about this Joe Tryon, the new Bucs edge rusher.
Sports Info Solutions, as you might guess, is a numbers-based football thinktank, and they had interesting information about Tryon. In short, they love his physical skills but believe he is “raw,” an unfinished product.
With the thirty-second pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the #Buccaneers select Joe Tryon: DE, Washington.
Tryon has the physical gifts and motor to be an effective pass rusher, but his technique is raw, and he will need to grow his rush plan and run defense to make a large impact. pic.twitter.com/TdveDPI9sR

Well, if anything, the Bucs have proven the past two seasons this coaching staff can develop young talent. And Joe doesn’t know if there are a half-dozen better defensive line coaches than Bucs assistant Kacy Rodgers. The former Bill Parcells disciple has had a pass rush wherever he has been as a D-line coach.
And look at the difference he made getting production from Shaq Barrett, who was just-a-guy with Denver on nobody’s radar outside of his immediate family.
Between Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh, Rodgers, Shaq and Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, there likely isn’t a better incubator for defensive linemen/outside linebackers in the NFC than with the Bucs.
Joe trusts guys like Bowles and Rodgers will take this raw meat and concoct one fabulous piece of New York strip.

If this kid is moldable, and I think they think he is, then they will mold him into a player. Should be fascinating to witness. Of course he could surprise us and come out of the gate doing good things. Speaking of molding, should be about time for Nelson to start making a little more noise.
April 30th, 2021 at 10:54 am
Another defensive pick today (that we trade up for) will be trained by this genius!
April 30th, 2021 at 10:58 am
How well did this staff “develop” Nelson?
Who has better raw material, Nelson or Tryon? And how much better?
April 30th, 2021 at 11:01 am
Tryon is a great pick at 32.
Now go get ba O line in 2nd and Chuba Hubbard in the 3rd .
April 30th, 2021 at 11:02 am
Still convinced that Joe Tryon is a Buc today BECAUSE Todd Bowles wanted him. He might be raw now, but he won’t be raw for long.
Your bottom line is worth repeating Joe (and imagine what our offense led by Tom Brady is gonna teach him) …
“Between Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh, Rodgers, Shaq and Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, there likely isn’t a better incubator for defensive linemen/outside linebackers in the NFC than with the Bucs.”

Tyron by a lot. Go look at his athleticism and film.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:02 am
His highlights you see are from his sophomore season at age 20. the scouting report criticizing his “rush repertoire” are comical. He’s clearly a nightmare to deal with and thats why the bucs had the card turned in before pick 31 was announced. Bucs fans, lets chill on the early criticism. Go bucs

Cobraboy … You know better than I do, but I’m thinking there’s a sizable difference in talent and being ‘NFL ready’ between a 1st round pick and a 4th round pick. Nelson will come along I think, it’ll just take him longer is my guess.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:05 am
All good points, Joe. Good analysis. The guy will develop nicely in Tampa. I like his attitude about learning too.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:05 am
Cobraboy Says: “How well did this staff “develop” Nelson?”
Actually Nelson performed well last year when given the opportunity. He was just rarely used as JPP and Shaq both played nearly 90% of the snaps.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:06 am
Quote from reporter Scott Smith: “Jason Licht says Joe Tryon’s workouts really jumped off the tape with his lateral movement.”
April 30th, 2021 at 11:08 am
He may be raw but we have more than an incubator for him……..
It’s more like a Turbo Instant Pot!!
April 30th, 2021 at 11:15 am
trust him… hmmmm. this pick remind me when we drafted Gaines Adams. Back then Monte was jumping from joy… turned to be a bust. im very suspicious/caution….Dont like the guy…very cocky …
April 30th, 2021 at 11:18 am
Hey NY strip is nice, but a well-marbled bone-in ribeye is my jam!
April 30th, 2021 at 11:18 am
Alabama – Agree. Nelson hasn’t got many snaps. On one play, he clearly had a sack – then was held. The penalty was called. But, of course, no credit for a sack. Sometimes small sample stats can mislead.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:19 am
Good pick but they better pick a QB next. We only have one guy on the roster.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:23 am
I pray Licht continues to give Bowles some talent.
The assumption is that JPP and Suh are not in Tampa in 2022, and I think they will only sign 2 out of Davis, Murphy Bunting, Dean and Whitehead.
If they could get Ossai out of Texas and St Juste out of Minnesota at corner, that would be a really good compliment to what they have in place
April 30th, 2021 at 11:24 am
nelson played well when he’s on the field….imo, he’s gotta better and better each year….
hard to crack the lineup when JPP is in front of you…lol…
GO BUCS!!!!
April 30th, 2021 at 11:29 am
The whole draft is a coin flip. Hard to tell what guys will be from college film. Too many variables. Bucs picked the guy they wanted . The more I read about the Washington situation last year the more I think his opt out might’ve been the smart move. Little to no training camp, intermittent practices. 4 game total season. Sounds like an injury waiting to happen. I normally don’t care for the opt out guys but his situation was a little different.
April 30th, 2021 at 11:31 am
Is this the same Bowles that assisted in the drafts of Devin White, SMB, Dean, Nelson & Antoine Winfield Jr.
I think we should trust his judgement on Tryon…..
I ask all Buc fans to reserve judgement (both ways)…..but to at least trust the coaches, GM & scouts to make the right selection (until he’s not)
April 30th, 2021 at 11:54 am
Anthony Nelson and Cam Gill surely know what kind of environment they have found themselves in and see what kind of opportunities they have for success in the NFL now.
Tryon will be starting from the bottom of the heap as all rookies do.
In JL and BA and Bowles and so on I trust!
April 30th, 2021 at 12:31 pm
I am not dissing Nelson at all.
I suggest “development” through coaching is not a silver bullet. It is not majik. It is important, but not the difference between an All Pro and a bust.
Tryon is an OK swimmer in a very thin edge draft pool.
But that is what you get with a SB win.
April 30th, 2021 at 1:40 pm
Bowles is not only a great coach of Men, but he is also a defensive genius, who showed the entire NFL exactly how to beat the mighty Chiefs.
Since Arians and his guys arrived, Jason Licht has gotten way better. We can be sure that every member of the coaching staff is in on every pick.
Tryon is exactly who they wanted, anyone notice how quickly we got our pick in, once we were on the clock ?
April 30th, 2021 at 1:48 pm
With the Bucs selecting Tryon and the doubtfulness that a manageable QB will be remaining by the time the Bucs pick again indicates to me that the Bucs will either go for a veteran QB after Brady retires or pick up another scrub to back him up. Just a shame that all of Brady’s knowledge will be wasted in not developing a new young rookie QB. What a waste.
April 30th, 2021 at 2:13 pm
G/C and CB depth next. There are several good Oline options, but Landon’s injuries scare me. At CB we need someone to cover Pitts twice a year. Maybe the guy from Syracuse.
April 30th, 2021 at 2:14 pm
How refreshing to have a great coaching staff that will get the best out of players. If Tyron is willing to listen and learn and perfect his craft look out. Bucs have dynamic leadership all over the board. This dude is going to work his tail off and will be watching some of the best de in the league. Futures so bright I gotta put shades on. Shot out to Jon Gruden who said that way back in the day
April 30th, 2021 at 3:46 pm
Agree…Bowles wanted this guy! It is always a team effort with Jason. He doesn’t draft players that coaches don’t want. Clearly, the coaches and staff are excited to get Tryon in the building.

@Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:
…….Since Arians and his guys arrived, Jason Licht has gotten way better. …..
—————————
correction: since TB12 and his gang arrived, JL has got way way better… 2019 remember the pain to watch defiance and JW… was not to long ago.
April 30th, 2021 at 4:52 pm
@crazybucs_CL – 2019 showed we had a great team and a terrible quarterback and the number of good starters on the team drafted by Licht proves it.
I am not sure if you realize that Licht is not the coach he is the GM and the reason we have drafted so many good players.
April 30th, 2021 at 5:13 pm
^^
I got no problem with JL, but nobody can’t deny that we are here today cause of TB12. JL success signing 22, is mostly of TB12 being a bucc…JL is been here with three different HC, and tens of assistance, for years…and we sucked big time.
again, GM should not get the major blame, nor the major credit for team results.
I dont even know who is NE GM….. and still they were elite for 20 years…
JL is OK, just OK not a genius, and we dont expect to be one.🤔
April 30th, 2021 at 5:18 pm
I hope Licht has looked at Spencer Brown, OT from Northern Iowa. Some more Iowa beef for the O line would be nice.
