Best Leftovers

April 30th, 2021

So the smoke has still not cleared from the first round last night. But what can we look forward to tonight in Rounds 2 and 3? Let’s take a dive.

The following players are among the guys Joe would have been OK with Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht drafting last night. And they are still on the board.

Elijah Moore, Mississippi, WR: Fast as greased lightning and can play several receiver spots.

Nick Bolton, Missouri, ILB: Beastly tackling machine in the nation’s best football conference.

Javonte Williams, North Carolina, RB: Breaks tackles and gets YAC.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame, ILB: Big, fast linebacker who is sort of a tweener not unlike Isaiah Simmons drafted last year (Cardinals). But that’s OK. Joe trusts Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles would figure out how to use him.

Levi Onwuzurike, Washington, DT: Big and versatile.

Jabril Cox, LSU, ILB: How can you go wrong with an LSU linebacker? They just know how to play football, that’s all there is to it.

Creed Humphrey, Oklahoma, C: Started 37 games for one of the best offenses in college football, year after year. And Oklahoma is a very underrated school for offensive linemen.

Terrance Marshall, LSU, WR: What LSU linebackers are to pro prospects, so too are receivers at LSU.

Eric Molden, Washington, CB: Played in an NFL defense. Smart and physical.

Tyson Campbell, Georgia, CB: Tall, fast and played against some of the best receivers in college football each week. What’s not to like?

(No, Joe does not include Rondale Moore, Landon Dickerson or Christian Barmore in this list. Moore and Dickerson are way too brittle for Joe’s liking. Barmore has too many red flags for Joe; what can you say about a kid who is so cocky he left Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp hanging for 90 minutes — late to a scheduled workout? Who does he think he is, Josh Freeman? If these three guys are on the board when the Bucs pick at No. 95 tonight, then OK. But not before.)

Last night speaking via Zoom with the local pen and mic club, Licht said he would not be opposed to trading up in the second round. However, he added, it would have to be the right price and the right player.

Get the “right” players and continue stocking the shelves.

  2. German Buc Says:

Joe, special word of praise for this picture šŸ™‚

  3. Cape Codder Says:

    o-line

  4. Bucs Guy Says:

Creed Humphry will go quick. I wouldn’t touch Landon Dickerson — too many injuries. Quinn Minierz and Teven Jenkins from OK State would be great C/G options. Probably have to trade up to mid-2nd round though.

CB is another 2nd round option.

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

A lot of great safeties still on the board, d-line looks pretty weak, to bad we don’t need any more receivers there are a few out there.

  6. JGhotier Says:

I hope we come away w/ Michael Carter today!

Any of Davis Mills, Quinn Meinerz, Creed Humphrey, Kelvin Joseph, Tyson Campbell, Rondale Moore (we need a legit returner on ST too), JOK, Pete Werner, Alim McNeil, Joseph Ossai, Walker Little, Jackson Carmen, Wyatt David, Milton Williams, Jabril Cox, Levi O., Tay Gowan, Arā€™Darius Washington and Andre Cisco would all be sweet too.

Allbuccedup – agreed, there definitely are (Moehrig, Washington, Cisco, Holland, Grant, etc.)

  7. Buc92ā€™ Says:

Out of this mild list by Joe , itā€™s Barmore or Bolton for me. Sapp is our guy Bt heā€™s also the same sapp that said Myles Garrett wasnā€™t a 1st rounder & that bosa was overrated coming out. This staff along with the leaders we have would optimize Barmore #GoBucs

  8. Pa Privateer Says:

I have always been a “trade down and collect picks” guy, but after reading Joe’s “grading the rounds” articles, I could be all for blowing late round picks to move up.

I would like to see, DL, OL, CB, or QB. Not in any specific order, but a QB project would be fine.

  9. Joeypoppems Says:

Im all for loading up the trenches this year with the roster we have. Keep building DL and OL depth. Wouldnt hate a DB or WR pick tho. Amazing job by Licht and co to bring back the SB roster, but a lot of it is just 1 yr deals. A WR like Marshall or Moore can be an impact player in 2022 which shouldnt be passed up on imo

  10. Allbuccedup Says:

Would like to have a QB for Brady to groom but I guess thats out of the picture now that Gabberts coming back.

  11. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

As Buc92 said, you left off Christian Barmore.

  12. SB~LV Says:

Trade up at all cost and get ā€œtheā€
    Explosive offensive player!!!
Then move on to FAā€™s to fill out the training camp roster.
We donā€™t need a bunch of scratch off ticket picks this year!
Get that one guy and call it a wrap !

  13. Medicated Pete Says:

I’ll barricade myself inside a liquor store if we don’t trade up

  14. Bird Says:

I do agree with bucs moving up to take players in draft that have an actual chance to make team

Today is a big day – 2nd and 3rd rounds have also been kind to bucs and licht. Especially second

I am ok with bucs throwing all late round picks into today
At worst , draft in fourth round.

Rounds 5 , 6 and 7 have about a .1 percent chance of making this fantasy football team. And we already have practice team guys. We are stacked.

  15. WhatTheBuc Says:

I guess people didn’t read the end of the article about Barmore. The guy could be the next Isaiah Willson. For those of you that don’t understand the drat, that’s bad. He reportedly doesn’t know his left from right. That’s not a joke. I’m serious. He either won’t or can’t listen to coaching. He’s also already “big timing” people like he’s already an NFL great. Apparently some of you want that on your team. Azeez Ojulari is still available because of a medical red flag. He may be worth a flyer at the end of the 2nd.

  16. Bird Says:

You guys notice a very few extremely upset posters last night

(We will see if tryon is the man over Aziz
I trust the coaches on this
One positive of tryon is he sets the edge really well – a todd bowles hallmark)

But anyway back to the ā€œnew posterā€ aaron …dingleberry fairly new too

Would it be a surprise if one is tmax and one is ndog
Two very upset individuals who miss being a troll cause bucs are legit

  17. Aaron Says:

I’m for whomever the Bucs draft – because having another opinion is not allowed on this site…since Licht and co. can’t do wrong.

Heaven forbid, I feel like the Bucs should have drafted a more highly rated CB or S…then a DE that most draft sites had rated in the 40 to 60 range.

    Go Bucs!

  18. Erick Says:

Aaron, go to bed kid. No one is saying you canā€™t have an opinion but not one person has said this kid will be Lawrence Taylor, like you said.

You want DB help, which is fine and I agree with, but with all that diarrhea you are spewing out of the mouth, you better write some names you like or shouldā€™ve been taken in Tryonā€™s place so we can all know what the great scout, Aaron thinks.

  19. Bobby M. Says:

other then WR, TE and K…..we can take best available at nearly any other position.

  20. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Iā€™ll take Creed please.
If a trade up is necessary then do it.

  21. Allbuccedup Says:

Don’t waste a day 2 pick on a defensive tackle they are all about the same. Get one maybe on day 3. Day 2 safety, o-line or QB pick 2 out of the 3.

  22. Aaron Says:

Plenty of cowards on this site have told me to zip it or STFU…name the parking lot BTW. Why do I have to be a scout?

Just another opinion – remember this GM did draft 2 kickers.

These are the players I would have drafted –

    S TREVON MOEHRIG, TCU

    LB JEREMIAH OWUSU-KORAMOAH, NOTRE DAME

CB ASANTE SAMUEL JR., FLORIDA ST.

    WR ELIJAH MOORE, OLE MISS

Trevon and Asante may even have a chance to start for us.

  23. Ash Says:

Good list to pick from, nice joe

  24. K2 Says:

Like your list…and think there are at least another 10 players. Bucs just need 1 or 2 players to fall to them.

  25. Logan Says:

Joe, how do you NOT have Tevin Jenkins on this list? The guy is a monster.

  26. TOM Says:

Really like Meinerz, Humphrey & Carter.

  27. TOM Says:

I forgot. Jenkins would be my pick but I think he”ll be long gone.

  28. StickinUp4Centers Says:

No way he lasts until 64, but JOK would be excellent to match up with Kyle Pitts twice a year. Samuel Jr, the other Georgia CB, or the CB from Syracuse would be nice additions. Hoping for Quinn Meinerz. Elijah Moore is a luxury pick that I would approve of but he is not lasting until 64.

  29. Bucanero Says:

I’m happy we got an EDGE and the dude has size and production so I think it was a solid pick. I would like the Bucs to take JOK or Cox to learn the ropes behind Lavonte and help in the nickel package. F what I would have done. Bottomline is they went for a dude who can contribute and makes sense long term, they were patient and got their guy. I think Unwuzurike/Barmore would make a lot of sense too if available at 64, not many tackles means the price tag for mercenary Suh or eventual substitute be pricey next year and its the same situation with Jensen but I believe Jensen is more likely to play another year so DT first I guess.

  30. All lives matter Says:

I don’t think unless we move up that any of those players will be there at the end of the second round.

  31. Fred mcneil Says:

We already have a huge sundae with whip cream. Now we have to top it with depth cherries.

  32. Fred mcneil Says:

All lives matter, I’d move up in a heartbeat for the right player.

  33. Fernando Says:

Who wants to hang around Sapp lol

  34. DingleBerry Says:

There were probably a good 20 players that would have been a better pick than Tryon…

  35. DingleBerry Says:

Licht continued his trend of not being able to draft pass rushers. Should have traded for a known commodity like he did with JPP.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Burn our 4th on a trade up in the 2nd….burn some of the rest to trade up in the 3rd….if we get 3 good players this year….that’s all we need.

Also…I wouldn’t be opposed to trading picks for better picks next year……trade our 5th for a 4th next year for example….

  37. JL Says:

Why are people talking about wideouts and running backs. You have Brady for 2 years. If you keep him standing you will go to at least one more Super Bowl. There is so much offensive talent on the bucs. Need young oline.. canā€™t pay every olineman 10mill plus. Stinne Jensen and cappa free agents next year and Carlton David is one as well. Have to get young quality interior oline.. Brady only loses when u pressure him in the middle. He wins with legit anyone as wideouts and rbs. Protect Brady stop the pass… ie pass rusher.. check. Oline and corner back. Everyone is so enamored with rbā€™s show me a team winning sbā€™s while drafting first round running backs or investing a ton in that position. It doesnā€™t happen. Corners pass rushers and oline. Wideouts over rated as well. Brady wins sbā€™s with Edelman and amendola and Gronk on one leg

  38. 813bucboi Says:

id take anyone of those kids except the “tweener”….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  39. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I’m expecting a few guys to be off the board by the time we select at #64 & #95

But here’s a few prospects of interest that could still be there.

    Defense:
    ā€¢ Alim McNeill
    ā€¢ Boogie Basham
    ā€¢ Elerson Smith
    ā€¢ Kelvin Joseph
ā€¢ Elijah Molden <–LUV This Kid

    Offense:
    ā€¢ Dillon Radunz
    ā€¢ Walker Little
    ā€¢ D'Ante Smith
    ā€¢ Creed Humphrey
    ā€¢ Trey Smith
    ā€¢ Amon-Ra St. Brown

  40. bojim Says:

Don’t mess with Aaron. Pick a parking lot and he’ll run over you with his Tonka toy.

  41. catcard202 Says:

Penciled in Quinn Meinerz as Bucs 2nd Rd pick at Sr. Bowl, but would really like to roll the dice on Landon Dickerson – if still on board & Med staff signed off.

  42. JGhotier Says:

    bojim,

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ you know if youā€™re gonna take his Power Ranger, heā€™s gonna knock you out!

….and thatā€™s way too much pressure putting the task of ā€œpicking a parking lotā€ on my shoulders, thereā€™s way too many to choose from

  43. Swampbuc Says:

    “Medicated Pete Says:
    April 30th, 2021 at 7:21 am
Iā€™ll barricade myself inside a liquor store if we donā€™t trade up”

    I’ve already consumed the contents!

  44. J$MCSports Says:

Its got to be offensive line depth if you trade up. If they stay put I wouldn’t be opposed to a DB but we may can get one in the third at the latest in this draft. RG starter or C if we trade up maybe even Basham fron Wake Forest will be available and we double up on the interior edge of the Dline & Edge depth. CB depth is a huge need and the third round is a gamble but there will still be quality there at that point to address Safety and CB in the fourth if we stay put and dont trade picks.

  45. BUCFAN4LIFE Says:

I’ve grown really weary of all of this draft speculation ! JL and BA and the rest of the people in the “War Room” will do what they’ve always done , choose the next highest rated player on the board . Freaking RELAX people ! In JL I Trust !

  46. BUCFAN4LIFE Says:

This is also the 1st time in the History of our Franchise that we haven’t had to draft a 1st rounder to fill a hole on our starting lineup . It’s a GREAT time to be a Buccaneer fan indeed !
