Joe Tryon Says He Can And Will Play Anywhere, In Any Scheme

April 30th, 2021

Todd Bowles has a new toy

Your newest Buccaneer is a confident young man.

Edge rusher/outside linebacker Joe Tryon told local media this morning he can play anywhere in any scheme, and he is ready to roll.

The Bucs first-round pick added he leaned on former teammate Vita Vea heavily for guidance during the pre-draft process, and Tryon was adamant that he didn’t miss a beat opting out of college football last season at the University of Washington.

“While I opted out, I took advantage of it,” Tyron said, noting he trained a lot in California and former Pro Bowl DE Cliff Avril helped him develop his pass rush repertoire..

Tyron is fired up to get in the Bucs locker room and soak it all in. He says he loves being around greatness … then he should be one happy rookie.

ok, get ready to run down field as our kicker kicks the ball through the endzone..

  2. adam from ny Says:

    tryon-shoyinka is his name…

and he will most likely wear #9

we will have our first lineman ever with a single digit number

  3. Bird Says:

Good find joes on cliff avrill

He usually hovered around 10 sack seasons

  4. Rob Says:

    Aaron, such a bitch boi

  5. JGhotier Says:

Are we to call him Tryon-Shoyinka like his name plate says or just Joe Tryon?

I’m confused because we call Sean, Sean Murphy-Bunting like his name plate says and not just Sean Murphy or Sean Bunting (like in College)….

I’m confused what’s the difference any why everyone chooses to abbreviate one hyphenated name, but pronounce the other hyphenated name in its entirety 🤷‍♂️

  6. DingleBerry Says:

Waste of a pick. So many ballers still on the board and we pick this lame duck who cant
play just because he has nice muscles.

So disappointed in Licht and the scouting department. Yuck.

  7. Topcoach_78 Says:

    @Aaron damn you’re salty!

  8. Red86 Says:

Chris Avril trained him? Wow. Just wow.

  9. August 1976 Buc Says:

Why takes shots at this guy? This is above your pay grade. T Bowles and Company know to evaluate and coach, how to put the QB on the ground, right Mahomes- Rodgers. So they will groom this guy, and the day will come, barring injury, to replace JPP or Shaq. GO BUCS!!!!

  10. Aaron Says:

I hope I’m wrong – but lets be honest…we can use more CB and a free safety..not a project at DE…again, my opinion. This GM did draft JW

  11. Aaron Says:

if we can’t express our opinion – why have this this site

  12. Guinness8 Says:

Dingleberry … Your name explains everything. Just stop!

  13. lambchop Says:

This guy is going to be a JPP clone, doesn’t hurt that he gets to learn under JPP and Shaq. If he played the 2020 college season, he would have been a mid-round 1st Rd talent.

He’s far from being a project. LOL. Watch his tape. And he gets to be thrown in as a DPR his first year to help our DL get more pressure. He’s not expected to be the starter right away. The guy has instincts and can drop back, plays with speed and sudden moves. If it translates to the NFL, he will be a steal as a #32 pick.

  14. MadMax Says:

Im liking this guy more than Zaven now after watching some tape….complete legit! Looks like a JPP clone with that length.

  15. August 1976 Buc Says:

We definitely can use help in the secondary. T Bowles and the coaches see the players day in and day out, so they know the Bucs front seven is the foundation of the defense and the secondary is not near the level of the front 7. I still do not trust C Davis not to fall on the ground covering like he did in the NFC Title game when he gave up a TD. With that said, they obviously felt better about this guy than the secondary talent in front of them to make a first round pick. The Bucs definately NEED help in the secondary, but no please do not reach. They do not think they are reaching on this guy. So I defer to T Bowles and company. Yes let’s agree and disagree, but why take shots at people. Just state an opinion. If we are honest, none of us even knows what tomorrow will be like let alone a draft pick that we have never even talked to or studied personally. GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Jerry Says:

Bucs obviously had their eye on him for awhile. That pick came in immediately. Zero hesitation.

  17. Godlovesbucs Says:

Aaron, this gm also picked evans, godwin, marpet, wirfs, winfield, davis, white, dean, smith, cappa, whitehead, vea, jones, miller just to name a few.

Yes J Licht picked JW, but what about these names listed by Godlovesbucs. To being honest gives both sides of the story, not just what backs up my point of veiw.

J Licht is the main orchestrator of the assembled coaches and players that make up the Current World Champions. Remember, he assembled the team that Brady wanted and studied to come to. He did not fumble the Brady signing. So again, there has been the R Aguayo pick, but in the light of the assembled coaches and players of the 2021 Buccaneers you have to give credit where it is due. So state honest opinions, not just to back up a point at the expense of what is actually the sitution. GO BUCS!!!!!

  19. Aaron Says:

Godlovesbucs – do I need to list our failures…we win because if Brady…and that was to make up his JW pick50…the draft is 50 / 50 at best..I’m here to offer another opinion and not suck our GM junk

  20. August 1976 Buc Says:

Taking shots again, life must s#ck. Here the Bucs are, at the zenith of their 45 year existence, and sucking on lemons is the preferred choice. Whatever, He assembled the team Brady came to, and did not fumble signing Brady. Gety real. GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Swampbuc Says:

Aaron — please get a prescription for some medication — dude your posts are about the 2014 Buccaneers. Have you been in a coma and just woke up? The Bucs won a Super Bowl and are returning every starter and most of the depth. Really, man, you sound like you have some serious PTSD issues. Lots of Bucs fans have those, but really — come out of the jungle and lay down your weapon. The war is over.

  22. Aaron Says:

IMO – we could have used a CB or Safety over a this DE pick

  23. Aaron Says:

not going to call people names…just my opinion

  24. 40Forever Says:

Aaron. Zip it. Edge Rusher is the shallowest position in this draft and we have the liberty of being able to draft a developmental prospect to take over for JPP. We’re about to lose a lot of players after next year so why not line up some youth to take over.

  25. teacherman777 Says:

    Perfect pick!

    He’s 21!

FRESH LEGS to rotate with JPP and Shaq.

    Eventual replacement for them.

    He’s a phsyical freak.

I hope we draft another physical freak in round 2.

Give me the best NT in the draft or a stout DE to backup Gholston.

    The offense is set.

Let’s draft defensive freaks all weekend!

I want to build the deepest defense in the league.

  26. German Buc Says:

Aaron, feel free to express your opinion. But do you really think, Bowles and Arians were hollering for a CB or FS and Licht said “Nah, let’s take this OLB”?

  27. JGhotier Says:

    Teacherman777,

What makes you looking at for Gholston replacement?

You think Milton Williams would be a good addition? Could slide in at both Gholston and Suh’s spot (even NT on OBVIOUS pass-rushing downs)…

  28. MarkR Says:

Know nothing about him but looking at the limited film available, looks like a straight-up bull rusher similar to JPP. I assume he has upside potential but I can’t get my head around the fact he was taken ahead of Azeez Ojulari who is physically stronger, more developed and a much less risky pick.

  29. JGhotier Says:

    MarkR,

It’s not Azeez’s play, he has been flagged by A LOT of teams w/ serious injury concerns to his knee and and ankle. Many teams are reported to have been scared off by the injuries.

  30. K2 Says:

    Solid pick!

We some people that need to work with the Raiders. They see the world differently than everyone else too.

  31. Asdf Says:

Knocking Jason for picking Winston is a Stephen A level nonsense take.

JW busted yes but you still had to take him at #1. That was the right pick with the available info at the time. You have to take your shot at QBs when you can but they don’t always work out.

Had Mariota been a stud you could have knocked him but we all know how that worked out.

JL’s not perfect but that’s not a fair critique

  32. ModHairKen Says:

Jameis Winston was not a bust. He did not achieve greatness. But he was not a bust. Jamarcus Russell. Vince Young. Johnny Manziel. Ryan Leaf. Those are busts.

  33. catcard202 Says:

When I went back & watched Tyron’s 2019 tape…I came away w/ the mental comp that he could develop into a Anthony Barr OLB clone in the NFL…Which is not a bad expected ceiling for a #32 pick.

I knock & second guess Jason Licht / Bucs FO & Scouting Dept. on the constant…But it’s hard to find flaw with this selection.

  34. TOM Says:

I know everyone’s entitled to his or her’s own opinion but lets wait & see.

  35. Randell Jackson Phares Says:

Dolly Parton, now that’s a bust.
