X-Factors At One Buc Palace
April 29th, 2021Joe is quite confident that a confidential survey of NFL general managers would reveal that a majority of team owners are involved in the first round of the NFL Draft to some degree.
That’s just reality.
It doesn’t mean owners make the pick, but their influence is felt and considered, especially when it comes to early, big-money draft picks.
Anyone think Arthur Blank isn’t wielding a heavy hand with the Falcons decision at No. 4 overall tonight?
Joe hears all the buzz about the Bucs working overtime on evaluating quarterbacks, and Joe immediately thinks of Team Glazer. As Joe suggested on The Ira Kaufman Podcast, perhaps Team Glazer happily agreed to a whatever-it-takes plan to re-sign a mountain of Bucs free agents as long as the front office and Arians agreed to draft a quarterback to groom in what might be the best QB incubator in NFL history.
Is that really so far-fetched?
Team Glazer is on record saying they have never told a general manager who to draft, but Team Glazer is not on record saying they don’t express their draft desires to a GM or head coach.
Will there be an ownership influence to the 2021 Bucs draft? There’s no way to know. But if a QB indeed goes with the Bucs’ first pick of the draft, even if that’s in Round 2, then Joe would be willing to put a few bucks on Team Glazer smiling from ear to ear.
Bucs fans overwhelmingly do not want the Bucs to draft a QB tonight, so that would make a QB selection even more intriguing.

I’m getting arrested this weekend if we draft a QB or RB

I want a QB drafted and I want him to be like Brady. A good way to go about finding him would be to draft him in the 6th round. This way he is nice and TICed off and is ready to dominate the NFL for 20 years plus

I think the conversation with the Glazers could go like this. “If there is a QB on your board within reach….by all means….trade up and get him….or wait for him to drop”
April 29th, 2021 at 2:21 pm
I have no problem taking the future QB in round 2 or 3, depending who else is on the board and who am I preventing from getting their future QB in the NFC South 😜. Eventually Falcons will take a QB if not in the first, definitely by the 3rd, Panthers the same and the Saints, do you think they are putting in all their chips on Jameis and Taysom, naaaaawwwww. So Bucs hopefully get their future guy while blocking the other teams from developing a QB. I still believe if the Bucs go 17-0 in the regular season and 3-0 in playoffs, TB12 and BA are walking off (well, TB might need some help from Ryan Griffin) into the sunset.

I hope they draft Trask in the 1st or 2nd round I guess I am in the minority of Bucs fans.

Just hope hes not gone when we pick. There are always surprises in the draft. Example the Packers taking Jordan Love.

These coaches know far better than we do where all these guys are, talent and development wise. If we draft a QB or RB, I have to believe that Licht, Arians and Bowles feel we already have the guys in house to meet our needs in the future, that they will be readily available om FA, or that the guys at other positions just don’t grade out as well for us. The bottom line? In Licht, Arians, and Bowles I trust.

I trust the scouting staff at One Buc, so whomever they take at QB (IF they take one) will have my support. And I totally agree that now is a great time to take a QB to learn behind the greatest QB of them all, and a coaching staff that knows how to develop players. Don’t wait until Touchdown Tommy leaves to do it. If we do that, we’ll be totally wasting part of the value of having him on our team!!

At least some of the 16% that want to trade down are thinking drafting a QB in the second round.

Seem to be quite a few previous years’ 1st Rnd draft pick QBs on rosters who AREN’T projected to start in the NFL this year. Rather than waste a Top-3 Rnds pick, grab one of them via a trade, or just wait for their current teams to cut them after preseason.
QBs like that were good enough at one point to get drafted in Rnd 1. Maybe they just fizzled because their team sucked? Maybe there’s some talent there that can be salvaged by learning how to play QB from a GOAT named Tom Brady?
Still curious BTW why we haven’t re-signed Blaine Gabbert. Have trouble believing that BA values Ryan Griffin more than him. Kinda gets me wondering if they have a deal worked out based on the old ‘Trust me, we’re bringing you back’ notion.

This draft really is a box of chocolates.
We have no idea what we’re gonna get.
I doubt even JL has any clue yet … except Trevor Lawrence won’t be there.

Defense Rules – re Gabbert. Could be contingent on whether they get their guy in tonight’s draft.

Unless Buc want a Brady Garapolo mess like in NE, Bucs better get Brady’s blessings beforehand more than the Glazers.

Tom Brady will be 44 when the season starts. I don’t know why that some of yall think he’s playing 5 more years. I think this is the last run because of the contracts. They have to draft a quarterback this is the best time to bring in a young quarterback. Some of yall are to young to know that Brady sat a year to learn . So why not do it for the next quarterback instead of throwing him in the fire ?? This is the perfect time to draft a quarterback.
