Bucs Haven’t Just Researched Scrub QBs
April 29th, 2021On Wednesday, NFL Network had a report from Tom Pelissero that the Bucs are doing “extra legwork” on quarterbacks that might be selected on the second- or third-day of the draft.
A few hours later, Albert Breer of SI.com typed that the Bucs are casting a much wider net on quarterback research to include guys who may be drafted tonight.
[T]hey’ve done quite a bit of work on the quarterback class, and not just the back-end guys—so it’s certainly possible that they could come out of the weekend with an heir to Tom Brady.
Well. So maybe all of these rumors linking Stanford quarterback Davis Mills to the Bucs aren’t just aimless speculation? There’s a lot to be concerned with between Mills’ lack of snaps and his bad knees. However, he sure does fit the profile of a Bruce Arians quarterback — big arm, little mobility.
Joe confesses to only seeing Mills for a few minutes at his pro day on NFL Network. At least for that brief amount of time, Mills looked and threw the ball like a quarterback who just stepped out of central casting. Joe could see why scouts are enamored.

Trask or Mills after that Slim Pickens.

I am guessing either Mac Jones or Davis Mills will fall to #32. Not sure if the Bucs will take one. Although the 6′-4″ Mills who ran a 4.66 and 4.58 in the 40 and had a 65.5 Career Completion %, most likely he will fall out of the first round as Teams only have 11 games of Tape on Mills.

Alabama….
Davis Mills “falls” ? He’s not even considered to be drafted until the second round, possibly falling to the end of the second round.
I think they checked out some of the other quarterbacks because there is a chance Jones, Fields or Lance falls towards the end of the first.
My guess is they did some homework, debating if it’s worth taking one of them or even moving up a few spots to ensure getting one of them if they start falling

Mills look good…..really good! I see some “it” factor on these highlights. I wouldn’t be mad if we get him at the end of Day 1.
April 29th, 2021 at 7:26 am
Kellen Mond Texas A&M – late second round.
April 29th, 2021 at 7:28 am
Mills is a day two pick. He has promise and was the number 1 QB coming out of high school. Except when he got to Stanford he blew out his knees. Eleven starts at QB and the injury concerns makes him too much of a projection versus production risk to take in the 1st round this year.
April 29th, 2021 at 7:47 am
Mac Jones ain’t falling
April 29th, 2021 at 7:53 am
@allbuccedup
I like Slim Pickins much more than Davis or Trask.
April 29th, 2021 at 7:54 am
That was fun to watch. He releases the ball so quickly and gets it into tight windows. Kinda reminds me of a recently retired NFC South QB.
April 29th, 2021 at 7:56 am
Mills is not a 1st rounder (unless, well, the Chicago Bears still exist). One of the big names will fall, my guess is Matt Jones. Fall to 32? Doubtful, but it says a lot about the Bucs that they are planning for all contingencies.
Happy Draft Day, Bucs Fans! We aren’t desperate this year! Hooray! One of my favorite days of the year. I love it!
April 29th, 2021 at 8:40 am
They’re on the Trask train
April 29th, 2021 at 8:54 am
Slim Pickens? Day two at most! Probably should stay for SR year.
April 29th, 2021 at 9:01 am
Bad knees on a quarterback was a terrible thing back in the days of Joe Namath. If he passes a modern physical his past knee issues wouldn’t be a concern at all to me. Knee repairs have come a long way.
April 29th, 2021 at 9:12 am
Where is this Mills hype coming from? His stats were not that good. He has barely played. He doesn’t look that impressive. He has a big body and a strong arm… other than than that he looks like a day 3 QB.
April 29th, 2021 at 9:20 am
BQA at 32. I believe the Bucs are good enough to make the playoffs with a backup or rookie QB if they had to. Draft some insurance for Brady or make the OL our priority. Brady may be the GOAT, but he’s not indestructible., and our whole season should not hinge on him.
April 29th, 2021 at 9:21 am
Just go for it. I don’t care who they pick, as long as they’ve done their research, and it appears they have. IMO any QB mentored by Brady and Tampa Bay’s coaching staff is going to improve significantly by the time he has to take the field. If it doesn’t work out, there’s always the 2022 draft.
April 29th, 2021 at 9:25 am
Mills? Where’s the trash I mean trask hype coming from
April 29th, 2021 at 9:27 am
i think trask would fit better…
trask sat, learned and developed for 4 years….when he got his chance, he produced….
trask is a brady clone imo….
GO BUCS!!!!
April 29th, 2021 at 9:34 am
If the Jets take Zach Wilson, he’ll be opponent. If the Falcons go mad and try to replace Matt Ryan, then a rookie could be an opponent twice if Ryan goes down to inj. Patriots might be shopping for a qb too, that’s 4 games potentially in 2021 against a prime rookie.
I’d be scouting the crap out of them too if 22% of my opponents were about to be drafted tonight.
April 29th, 2021 at 10:06 am
I like mills. I know Joe wants to draft a player the helps this year. I get that I really do, but I want to win now and not fall back in the toilet for fifteen years. There is no position more important than quarterback. So let’s win now with Brady and have one in the chamber for when he leaves.
April 29th, 2021 at 10:12 am
he throws a nicer ball than trask
April 29th, 2021 at 10:14 am
how’s his hair?
asking for trevor
April 29th, 2021 at 10:55 am
Lol at Mac Jones falling to #32.
He ain’t even gonna fall to #4
April 29th, 2021 at 11:18 am
Think Shane Buechele with the first 7th rounder would be epic. Great kid and has a professional athlete background which the Bucs are looking for. Great family.
Was successful at Texas and at SMU. Transferred because he got hurt at Texas and then Sam Ehlinger held that spot.
April 29th, 2021 at 11:34 am
He looks good here but what stands out to me is that he is really good at throwing to #13…….and who has a solid #13 to throw to???
April 29th, 2021 at 11:38 am
I can see what Arians sees in the guy. He looks like a classic NFL pocket passer.
That #13 Fehoko is pretty impressive too.
If the Bucs could move back and come away with Mills and one of the two DL guys from Washington DL guys in the 2nd round I’d be happy.

The NFL has been flooded with QBs the last few years. There are tons of abandoned projects and seasoned vets to be had over the next few years.
Projects …
Mitch Trubisky
Drew Lock
Gardner Minshew
Vets Likely Available Soon …
Teddy Bridgewater
Matt Ryan
Aaron Rodgers
Derek Carr
Kirk Cousin
Marcus Mariota

Makes me want to draft Fejoko the the tight end
April 29th, 2021 at 12:35 pm
Maybe a veteran who has
19,747 yards
122 Td’s
88 Int’s
Career Passer raising of 86.9
Now we got TB12 and he got us a ring (damn straight)!
The above numbers were Jameis’ 5 years in Tampa…
A lot of teams would consider just the numbers in a heart beat.
The draft is overblown especially when drafting QB’s…
April 29th, 2021 at 2:39 pm
All those numbers and 31 teams passed on him again even as a back up. Nice try but ain’t gonna happen. Had his chance at the title.
