Life has changed for Super Bowl GM Jason Licht, and he explained today that even includes how draft-prospect interviews flush out.
Joe knows first-hand how being a Bucs fan has improved by about 18,000 percent since the Bucs shook off the stench of The Lost Decade and crushed the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. So Joe’s curious how that translates behind the walls of One Buc Palace. Joe asked Licht about that today, as it relates to online interviews of potential draft picks.
JoeBucsFan.com: As reigning Super Bowl champion GM, do you sense any difference from the prospects when you talk to them on Zoom, and [feedback] from your staff, as well? Is there like an extra juice to them knowing that they’re talking to your team?
Bucs GM Jason Licht: You do a little bit. One of the questions that we’ll ask is, just to kind of get a gauge for their football passion. is how many players can you name from our team. In the past, they’d be able to name a few, but it seemed like this year they could name the entire starting lineup [on] both sides of the ball. That comes from playing a lot of prime-time game and that comes from playing in the Super Bowl. So, in terms of a little bit of juice, there was a little bit more; players were sitting up a little bit more, a little bit more wide-eyed, and a little bit more excited to talk about our team.

Has our college scouting staff changed since Licht got here? I’m assuming that he used the Rock Star’s holdovers at first. Maybe that’s why the drafts were so bad. If he has replaced them over the course of his tenure then maybe that explains the better performance recently.

The real test will be how many of the following can they recite: the park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback.

Wow that’s crazy lol. I know so called die hard Buc fans that can’t name the starters. One Bucs fan asked me if I thought Simon Rice was better than elroy semen. I mean we were at a sports bar but still.
