The Bucs And Kyle Trask
April 3rd, 2021Joe’s going here today for three reasons — and no, Joe is not a flag-waving Gators fan of any kind.
First, it’s a beautiful Saturday and perhaps you have a little extra time to read David Whitley’s fun and witty GatorSports.com column on Kyle Trask being a quarterback fit for the Bucs in this month’s draft. Joe really got a few laughs from Whitley, and from Steve Spurrier’s backhanded compliment to Trask at Florida’s recent Pro Day.
Second, Bucco Bruce Arians says he’s very ready to draft a QB, and it seems obvious he’s not going to be in position take one of top-tier, top-5 guys, so maybe it’s Trask, the big pocket passer who’s probably more Mike Glennon than Tom Brady.
Lastly, former Bucs scout and Jets personnel executive and linebackers coach Pat Kirwan picked Trask for the Bucs in Round 1 (No. 32 overall) in his SiriusXM NFL Radio mock draft yesterday.
Joe might vomit if the Bucs invested a first-round pick into Trask. But assuming the many QB geniuses at One Buc Palace believed in Trask, Joe certainly could stomach the Bucs trading down out of the first round, ending up with more picks and taking Trask quite late on Friday night.
If Arians wants Byron Leftwich to take the Bucs’ torch from him, and prepare a QB for him, then one could think Arians would want to groom a pocket kind of guy to fit his offense.

Go up at beginning of 3 if he is there
That bowl game maybe gave us him
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:08 pm
Trask will make Glennon look like Peyton Manning. He’s awful at progressions and bad under duress. A 5th fonder maybe.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:10 pm
I want nothing to do with a worse version of Kirk Cousins. Hard pass on this clown.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:18 pm
There are at least three Florida targets getting drafted so he must have done something well in college. That article is actually pretty funny Joe.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:19 pm
I do not want Trask because he’ll go too high for his value. In a later round perhaps.
The only high pick I would like is Mac Jones who appears to play the most similar “style” as Brady and could be the perfect protégé. I’m in NO WAY saying Jones is the next Brady…we should all accept that Brady is freakish and is the GOAT. Nobody we draft will compare to him.
But Mac Jones can be a winning QB in the NFL if he lands on the right team. He’s projected as high as top ten and as low as 32nd. Guess who picks 32nd?
If we spent draft capital on him I would conclude that the Buc’s brain trust agrees with my opinion. If they don’t I respect their opinions more than mine so I’m still good.
Aside from Jones the only QB I would like to see us draft is a “project” outside of the first two rounds.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:23 pm
Hate to say it but KT knees look like an injury waiting to happen. But he is very good identify his open man.
Alternatively.
Makes sense for BA/Licht to publicly rule out ANY position in the draft. BA/Lict sit in the catbird seat @32
Keep ‘teams guessing.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:46 pm
If the Bucs did draft Kyle Trask, I would hope it’d be in the 3rd Round. It seems like he’d be a reach in the 1st Round, and I like the thought of the Bucs getting an edge rusher with their 1st pick.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:54 pm
Somewhere, my brotha SB is getting a kick out of this.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:55 pm
Focus should be 100% in the trenches.
April 3rd, 2021 at 7:57 pm
EDGE Rushers
INTERIOR Defensive Lineman
TACKLES
GUARDS

The Saints supposedly are saying they’re interested in Trask. If they were indeed interested in him, would you hear about it? I’m calling smokescreen.

…………..
A true idiot just spoke in Swampbuc. Dude threw for 25 TDs in 6 starts to 7 INts in his FIRST starts. Next yr 4 Gators WRs went to the NFL so he had to start over.
In his next yr he only threw for 40 TDs to 8 INTs in 12 games with an Entire new corps.
Stupid is as Stupid does bro.

April 3rd, 2021 at 8:08 pm
Why would we have any interest in drafting a quarterback when Johnny Football is available?
April 3rd, 2021 at 8:12 pm
I’d rather bring Rudy Carpenter back. Trask is a bust.
April 3rd, 2021 at 8:12 pm
bad mechanics and rattles to easy… 1st and 2nd round would be a reach!
April 3rd, 2021 at 8:28 pm
Trask is a player with great accuracy. His stats are not that much different then all world Mac Jones. He certainly threw more TD’s then Jones. I’d be happy if the Bucs could draft him in the 2nd Round.
April 3rd, 2021 at 8:39 pm
Rule number 1 about the NFL draft, you never draft a player with a flavor saver as facial hair.
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:01 pm
There you are LUV….Sup brotha? Been a long time…How about these Bucs…I knew it was coming….from the time I was calling for BA to come out of retirement to calling for TB12 last year plus all our draft picks the last 4 years….we’re on a roll baby and we’re not done yet. Need to change my name to MadMaxBuccaneerProphet hahahaha. Lets just enjoy this ride.
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:04 pm
And yeah, trenches….im looking hard at Daviyon Nixon and Jackson Carman….I want Zaven Collins but he’ll be gone by the time we pick.
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:08 pm
Trenches first! If Trask is there in rounds 3-4, possibly. Trenches!
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:24 pm
Man, I’d love him, but we should really focus on the trenches. I’d love a Gator as our QB, especially since a free shoes u QB didn’t workout lol
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:27 pm
Kellen Mond > Kyle Trask
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:41 pm
I think this kid is perfect for our system. Let him learn a year (or hopefully two) with TB12. I don’t want him in the first round but he’s not going to last until the third. That article was funny AF
April 3rd, 2021 at 9:49 pm
I think Trask is much better than some of you give him credit. He is not, however, a first round pick and I highly doubt the Bucs consider him first round, either. Agree that 3rd round would be more reasonable.
April 3rd, 2021 at 10:55 pm
Please let him be our first pick of the draft!! I think he could be the steal of the draft !!
April 3rd, 2021 at 11:26 pm
Hot Take: Trask will be New Englands first rounder. I think they will trade back and take him in the 20s.
April 3rd, 2021 at 11:59 pm
Did anyone see Trask against Oklahoma?
April 4th, 2021 at 12:00 am
And btw I’m a Gator homer.
April 4th, 2021 at 12:02 am
You can easily tell who the FSPoo fans are. The man was lights out every game he played in, except 1. These couch scouts have no clue what they are talking about. His knees? LMAO. Doesnt go through progressions? LMAO. He wont go in the 1st but whoever drafts him will be getting great value and a great player.
April 4th, 2021 at 12:45 am
Trask had 1 bad game and that was without his starters at wr and tight end . He would be a good quarterback learning behind Brady . Ain’t no DT or offensive lineman will be a better pick than Trask at 32 .
April 4th, 2021 at 12:48 am
TBBF – you are killing it Bud! Keep up the great work!
Shill Joe would for sure pull a Ditka to get Manziel. Unfortunately, since Johnny Douche isn’t on a team, there isn’t anywhere for Shill Joe Armchair to trade his picks to.
In BA I Trust!
April 4th, 2021 at 2:01 am
I wouldn’t compare Trask to Mike Glennon. Trask isn’t afraid to air it out and while a pocket passer, is more mobile than you may believe. Don’t think he’s worth it at #32 (and I loved Trask as a UF fan) but in the 3rd I’d take him.
April 4th, 2021 at 6:58 am
Maybe trask at no. 64. If not him might as well go for a prayer with a 4th or 5th round pick Davis Mills, Costello or Brady White two former Stanford QBs and Memphis QB good stats not good in their Bowl game. But then their is always next year. Maybe the fish will trade for Watson and we could send them our 32nd pick for Tua thats the way to go.
April 4th, 2021 at 7:10 am
Everyone the league’s ever seen has been more Mike Glennon than Tom Brady. Cept for Tommy boy!!
April 4th, 2021 at 7:50 am
Round three, sure. First round pick, laughable. We’re going to get a real good player at 32. It won’t be Kyle Trash.
April 4th, 2021 at 8:08 am
He had his moments but this isn’t remotely close to a win now pick. Trenches, trenches, trenches. Youth up front on Defense. If a QB is an option wait and see what happens with the NYJ and Darnold and looks for 2nd-3rd year castoffs
April 4th, 2021 at 8:51 am
Of this guy wasnt a gator we would not care for him, i will pass gator QB struggle in NFL. REMEMBER the love for hartgraves who was not top 32 pick but was loved by many here just cause a gator he sucked
April 4th, 2021 at 9:14 am
No way he lasts until the 3rd round
April 4th, 2021 at 10:11 am
If the Bucs decide to draft a QB, it should be a day 3 pick. Someone to consider you may not have heard mentioned is Ian Book. Winningest QB in Notre Dame history. Quick release, mobile, accurate, able to read defenses, plays both under center/in shotgun, good in the big games and a good passer. Not the strongest arm and only 6′. Already been under the spotlight. Someone who could learn under TB12. Probably a 5th rounder who would make a good backup to start. If it doesn’t work out, you”ll figure it out in the next few years and you could release him without a lot invested and he’ll be less expensive than bringing Ryan Griffin back.
April 4th, 2021 at 10:22 am
Cringe
April 4th, 2021 at 11:19 am
He would be a steal in the 2nd rd pick. A few years under a great QB could take him to the next level. He was looking like Joe Burrow through the first 8 games last year. Going from backup QB to D’riq King in high school to not playing three years, being a backup at FL. He’s done well. Wherever he goes the guy has the patience and competitive edge you want in a QB.
Did anyone watch the SEC Championship game with Alabama?
April 4th, 2021 at 12:06 pm
I’d rather sign Tim Tebow at 34.
April 4th, 2021 at 12:24 pm
NOOOOO!!!! The worst pocket stants ever.
April 4th, 2021 at 2:06 pm
I say that unless some incredible player falls to us, we should trade out of the first. The last few years it has been a good trade down spot.
The 32nd pick is little more than a second rounder anyway, and we’re drafting for depth for a change. May as well pick up an extra pick or two.
April 4th, 2021 at 2:07 pm
Unless we give half our picks to trade up. I could see that happening because we do not have a lot of spots available this year.
April 4th, 2021 at 2:35 pm
DP4life . It’s a lot of school that quarterbacks are not known for how many Texas Tech quarterbacks was good in the NFL before Mahomes ? They said the thing about that school It’s all about what team you go to and the coach . A good coach will always change their playbook for what the quarterback does best . Look at Any Reid every quarterback he coach had a different playbook . That’s how you develop a young quarterback .
April 4th, 2021 at 4:36 pm
I read a couple of “expert” comps for this guy. One compared him to Brad Johnson and the other compared him to the current old, immobile version of Ben Rothlisberger. Hopefully, we won’t waste our number one on him. If he’s there in the 4th round then fine. Wacky Chris Simms has Kellen Mond as his number 4 guy, so maybe he’d be worth a pick?
Personally, I like the idea of going after the seasoned vets at quarterback that have left their original teams. The only times that we went to the super bowl was when we had one of those.
April 4th, 2021 at 7:50 pm
Forget Trask. Ian Book of notre dame would be a better fit at the bottom of the 3rd round. Strong, tough and great mobility. Great guy to learn under Brady.
April 4th, 2021 at 9:31 pm
Did anyone watch the 2nd half of the Georgia game? Trashk threw at least 3 balls into the chests of bulldog defenders. Fortunately none of them could catch or 3 pick sixes result. If you love a qb who stares down his primary, Trashk is to you.
College ah stats don’t mean diddly poo btw.
April 5th, 2021 at 12:40 am
Dilfer 2.0
April 5th, 2021 at 6:58 am
Exactly what kind of qb do you guys expect to be left after every team in the league who needs a qb drafts in front of us? Projects and maybes are what will be left.
April 5th, 2021 at 11:33 am
Nope. No. No thank you.
There are 32 backup QBs in the league better than Trask.
Don’t waste the pick.
April 5th, 2021 at 6:04 pm
Trask is a great pick to back up Brady in case he gets hurt.
April 6th, 2021 at 10:14 am
I’ve watched every Gators football game of the last 20 years. Trask is the only QB other than Tebow that I believe deserves a shot to be a starting NFL QB. Gators have had talented targets for many years, but no QB could get them going. Trask elevated the offense, and in my opinion looks every bit as good as Mac Jones. With that being said, I think Mac Jones may be an overrated prospect if he goes in the top 15, but I think Trask is absolutely worth a 2nd round pick. I do think a good comp for him is Kirk Cousins, who has managed to be an average to above average QB. The issue with Trask is that he does not have the elite athleticism to raise his game to top 12 QB level. But with the right supporting cast, I can still see him being a winner, and he would have the best possible chance learning under Brady. If he is available at the bottom of the 2nd round, I’d be good with the pick.
April 6th, 2021 at 11:10 pm
So Jeebs is saying Trashk’s max ceiling is Cousins. I think more like Glennon but say you’re right. What has Cousins ever won?
Rest my case.
Trashk would be lucky to have Grossman’s career. He sucks.
