“He’d Be A Fool To Leave”
March 16th, 2021Former Raiders linebacker Kirk Morrison took to Sirius XM NFL Radio upon learning that Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett was staying in Tampa.
Morrison, who played for the Raiders and Bills, lauded Shaq for what Morrison believes is the smart move. In fact, Morrison believes Shaq was silly if he seriously thought about playing for another team — unless someone offered him such a stupid figure that it would have been an offer he couldn’t refuse.
“I didn’t think Shaq Barrett wanted to go anywhere,” Morrison said on “The Blitz,” which he co-hosted with Bruce Murray. “He loves the situation in Tampa. If you think about what Todd Bowles, his defensive coordinator, has done for him the last two years, look, he’d be a fool to leave.”
Morrison is of the mind Shaq is perfect for Bowles and that if he went anywhere else, Shaq very easily could have slipped back into mediocrity.
If Morrison is correct in his assessment of Bowles and Shaq, Joe thinks Bucs fans better hope that Bowles sticks around for the next four seasons in some capacity.

He wasn’t mediocre for Denver, this is somehow becoming a narrative. He was just behind two absolute studs and didn’t get many snaps. His sack per snap ratio was comparable to his Bucs production. Happy we have him unlike that idiot who thinks he’s potbellied.

Did I miss part of the interview?
I never heard either of the guys suggest that Barrett could slip back to mediocrity.
Instead he said he is a core guy.
What I heard:
He would be a fool to leave.
He works in the system.
He has turned himself into an elite pass rusher.
It was a no brainer for him to resign.

I have a feeling we may lose Bowles after this season to an open HC spot somewhere. Possibly BL also but I feel like Bowles will get another HC chance.

His pass-rushing skills translate to any Defense.
If you can rush the passer does 3-4 or 4-3 really matter?
The goal is to beat the man in front of you! He was doing that in Denver. He just didn’t get enough time to play. Denver knew it but couldn’t pass up on Chubb.
Maybe they made the wrong decision?!

Spot on Brevard Buc.

The problem with Shaq now is the $$$. Sapp discussed the year after he signed his big contract was a complete waste. You’re focused on the money so much you forget about football. Shaq’s out buying a home, car, etc. I hope his teammates reel him in.

SlyPirate, he has Tom Brady to answer to.

SlyPirate – the dude made $16 million last year if I’m not mistaken on his Franchise Tag, and now he signed for 2 years at roughly $17-$18 million each. It’s not like he was broke before this deal. I honestly think that Shaq and JPP would play for free (hyperbole here) as they love the game that much. Same goes for:
54
55
12
87
13
14
50
56
and so on, and throw in Arians coaching too…

He said last season that he wanted to stay and took a much smaller contract than he could have gotten.
That sounds like a stable character, on top of having a season where he turned into a damn good outside linebacker and not just a pass rusher.
Glad to have him back, along with LaVonte. High hopes for next season.

FYI… the Bucs played a four man line about 95% of the time against the Chiefs.

Sign Bowles as coach in waiting and promote after BA retires
