The Team Glazer, Front Office “Shift”
March 15th, 2021There was the phony “all-in” approach Bucs officials used to sell fans, and now there’s a more legitimate all-in 2.0.
Or perhaps Joe should call it “Tom.0.”
Bucs fans who care about salary cap accounting know Tampa Bay frolicked through The Lost Decade with a burning desire to manage their roster finances by avoiding “dead money,” which in simple terms is cap room lost down the road because you shelled out big bonuses to acquire more talent and spread out the cap it.
That Bucs approach came after the team swam regularly near the NFL salary floor, including during the no-cap 2010 season. Yes, the Bucs became respectable spenders in 2012, but there were limits on how far the team would go to field a winner.
Not anymore.
As long-time NFL insider Albert Breer astutely explained this morning at SI.com after a recent conversation with Bucs general manager Jason Licht, “all-in” has a different definition at One Buc Palace in 2021.
“…Licht and Tampa’s well-respected cap chief, Mike Greenberg, have purposefully avoided these kick-the-can mechanisms in the past, preferring to build contracts in a more responsible, pay-as-you-go fashion. But given the circumstance of having a championship team, a 68-year-old coach and a quarterback turning 44 this summer, and with the blessing of ownership, the Bucs have shifted their M.O.
Licht emphasizes, “We still have to be mindful of it.” But the truth is that, as it stands now, the Bucs will have $24 million in dead-cap charges to deal with if Brady retires before the 2023 season, and another significant amount if David does the same. And the willingness to swallow cap ramifications they’ve had a distaste for in the past is driven by the obvious—which would appeal to any player….”

Covid and reduced cap is main reason
This will not become bucs MO or norm moving forward.
All teams are getting creative this year
Saints have been kicking the can down the road for 5 years
They have redone 8 guys contracts and cut several others
And they are still around 17-18 mil over the cap
And jameis aint playing for free
Cam newton got 1 year 12 mil so you have to give jameis close to 10 even if dual qb set up.

Having a franchise QB changes alot.
Having the GOAT changes everything.
If we keep Shaq- we can win 1, possibly 2 more SuperBowls.
Back to back to back changes everything people think about this team.
That chance will never come again.
Gotta go for it

I thought Newton got a 1-yr, $5mil, $3.5 mil guaranteed dealio…

Here is the deal, this happens to ALL championship teams down the road. Look at NO, Dallas, Seattle, Denver and most of all the Patriots. That’s a problem in itself, Belichick underestimated Tom Brady’s talent and assumed they could bring any QB into THEIR system and win. A story for another day. The fact is you win now and figure it out later, it’s too hard to get.to the top, just make sure Bucs have a QB in place that Brady can groom before he retires. Brady is a man of his word he will finish his contract barring injury and will NOT strap Bucs with cap hit.

Right on! Capt. Like Herm Edwards famous quote at a press conference. “You Play to Win the Game”
We have the everything needed, you play to win Championships. You do not win Championships by pinching pennies, signing Shaq is well spent money and Suh and Succop. GO FOR BUCS!!!!!

Brady plays until he’s 50…because he can…and earns a total of 10 Super Bowl rings. All under the management of BA being either head coach or franchise President. Byron Leftwich will be our next head coach. Todd Bowles will move on but his legacy will remain with a current assistant stepping into the lead DC role.
Jason Licht’s bumpy start will become a distant memory as he and Mike Greenburg co tongue to CRUSH it.
Tell me I’m wrong.

Cobra
You are right in likely guaranteed numbers.
The remainder are incentives which he will likely never sniff

I suggested we bring in AP a few years ago and got ripped for it. In retrospect, I still think I was right…then… So I will let the other amateur GM’s forward their guys. Lichts, Bowels, and Arians opinions are the only ones that really matter.
Starting to wonder about Barrett. You really don’t care that much about playing one place or the other, if you only take the job of the team that pays you the most.

Bwahahhahahahahahahahahahaahahahah!

The cap will balloon next year after attendance returns and the new TV contract is inked. The Bucs can restructure those dead cap contracts next year.

Saints see Jameis as the 1st 40/40 guy.

How much cap space do we actually have

Why do yall keep bringing up Jamies on every thing but yall always say yall move on from him ?? I mean some of yall worry about how much money he’s getting and I can tell you this that whatever he’s going to get he’s going to be a rich young black man . I thought yall moved on from him you got what you wanted . So what is it yall wante him out of football??? Yall call me a Jamies fan but yall talk about Jamies waaay more than me are any one else. I’ve brought up drafting Kyle Trask and yet some of yall will still bring up Jamies to me . I’ve talked about the defense or the running game and yet yall still bring up Jamies . Lol 😆 🤣 😂 it’s crazy how obsessed yall over Jamies . Brady will never be the goat to me because I don’t believe in goats in team sports and you never going to convince me to believe different. Now does that mean he’s a bad quarterback to me no . I still think Brady is a good quarterback. Did he fail off a bit yes he’s 43 years old . Look what happened in New England his last year when he didn’t have that many weapons so it’s ok that he needed more weapons on this team from last year on offense . But yall have a belief that if you don’t call him the goat then that mean you hate him lol lol 😆 😂 🤣 😅 !!!

I think the drafting will be interesting at this point. With all the free agents returning and I think Lenny and AB return as well. Lenny will get his down the road I believe. Almost all of the guys have done restructures I believe. We squeeze Lenny $6-$8 mil. AB will be back on the strength I believe. They nail the draft with a couple big time steals on the front seven in the draft and that front office is working on a Dynasty even after Brady is gone.

Please not Lefty as HC. At least not with the Bucs. Maybe Bowles. BA is really pushing Lefty as a HC but to me he’s not HC material. I don’t even think he’s a good OC. Just a product of the system.
