Drew Brees Retires
March 14th, 2021Time to do some NFC South quarterback math.
Drew Brees made it official today; he has quit the NFL. After 20 years and the Bucs driving a stake into his heart in the NFC Divisional round, Brees ended his career and the Saints’ QB torch has been passed to Taysom Hill and, perhaps, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.
Matt Ryan turns 36 in May behind a bad offensive line. (Ryan led the NFL in completions last season. No, Joe doesn’t think Ryan is washed out yet.)
The Panthers feature below average Teddy Bridgewater.
Our beloved Bucs? They have the greatest quarterback in the history of the world, a man coming off his seventh Super Bowl win and a 40-touchdown regular season.
Hmmm, who do you like to win the division title next season?
While it was likely Brees was going to retire, Joe learned long ago not to believe a retirement until it’s official. So Joe is very pleased this evening because the Saints just got worse, on the heels of gutting established stud players last week, including Emmanuel Sanders and Janoris Jenkins.
Sadly, this may be the last time Joe may publish the historic Josh Freeman photo above, pne of Joe’s all-time favorite shots.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:15 pm
I wish Jameis well, but it’s going to be tough with the amount of players that the Saints are going to have to unload to get under the cap. Looks like a total rebuild to me.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:24 pm
Brees was a beast! Wish you well in retirement.
Meanwhile Hill gets a $140 mill contract….and I hear they might offer 1.2 mill,(up from 1.1) to the uber pssy grabber to eat a W….
March 14th, 2021 at 8:26 pm
So glad brees is out of New Orleans. He had our number for years.
Remember dolphins decided to go cullpepper route instead of brees? 😂
March 14th, 2021 at 8:28 pm
Brees was always doing a lot great things off the field which speaks volumes about his character. Now saying that…. nothing makes me happier seeing his last game was getting rolled by the Bucs! All the times he’s hammered the Bucs, it was a nice retirement present.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:31 pm
So glad to see Brees retired. The Saints just lost their best chance to be a playoff team next year. With their quarterback situation, the Saints feel like a 7-9 or 8-8 team.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:33 pm
Joe says:
Our beloved Bucs? They have the greatest quarterback in the history of the world, a man coming off his seventh Super Bowl win and a 40-touchdown regular season.
this sort of writing keeps me coming back
No doubt hard to believe the Bucs are world champions and have so much to look forward to. I look forward to watching the Saints. I truly believe that Winston is still int. prone and our corners will feast.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:37 pm
Is it in poor taste to pile on JW here?
Because Howard doesn’t want to be a bully or kick a W-eater
when they’re down
March 14th, 2021 at 8:37 pm
cutting emmanuel sanders and janoris jenkins shame–two of their best players
March 14th, 2021 at 8:38 pm
Praise Jebus!
March 14th, 2021 at 8:38 pm
Good riddance.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:39 pm
Looks like Bucs will be facing Taysom Hill twice next year with JW as backup
March 14th, 2021 at 8:42 pm
The Taysom contract isn’t all that. It’s back end loaded as most are, and he’s got a very low cap number for the next two years. It would appear JW has the inside track.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:45 pm
Brady has now started and won as many Super Bowls as all active nfl qbs combined.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:46 pm
This is why Howard was so impatient with the Glazers before Brady came on board and fixed everything:
1.) They persistently tried to make GMC the face of the team for years.
McCoy is not a leader by any stretch of the imagination yet year after
year we rebuilt around him and fielded awful team after awful team.
2.) They persistently tried to make JW the face of the franchise even
after the warning signs started rolling in. JW is a better leader than GMC
but he’s no Brady. Not even close. Other teams seem to know right away that JW is, at best, a backup, yet the Glazers continually tried to force that square peg into a round hole.
Anyhow. all is well that ends well. Signing Brady was the obvious jackpot
and now the Glazers own the best team in the NFL
March 14th, 2021 at 8:51 pm
Good luck in retirement, Mr. Brees. He’ll be back either as an announcer or as a politician. They still have a lot of work to do to get below the cap. The Aints offense will be all trick plays, all the time now.
March 14th, 2021 at 8:52 pm
Bridgewater is not below average.
Carolina will be a tough team next year with the draft and McCaffrey back.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:13 pm
Brees was/will be amazing for that community and deserves every accolade he gets.
JW will test the limits of public drunkenness on Bourbon Street.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:18 pm
Don’t be surprised to see the Saints resign Winston and use him in a trade in some way in a trade for Russell Wilson.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:22 pm
TB12 will have the team oriented towards a playoff bye to repeat. This implies winning every game they play. Ergo, it won’t really matter which team they play; all about execution. Remember: the team that is healthy and peaking will go far. Playing road games through the whole ordeal- no thanks. Don’t get the Super Bowl hangover; every season is different. Repeating on the road twice is…not likely. However, earning a bye and being ready- DOABLE!
March 14th, 2021 at 9:30 pm
I just hope they don’t try to get Deshaun Watson in a trade… Although if they do they’d have to give up so much to fix their Salary Cap Disaster that they wouldn’t be any good
March 14th, 2021 at 9:30 pm
@Howard, ive had a few to drink and got busy on it because of the ndogs and JW nuthuggers out here…. I know, its poor taste….
but it is funny if youve been following the past 5 years….jabs here and there….its all good
March 14th, 2021 at 9:43 pm
He appeared to be feeling left out a couple of weeks ago…rocking a toupee and pushing a sled on social media. Doesn’t sound like the Saints really wanted him back. One of the many highlights of the 2020 season was avenging the 38-3 loss to the Saints with Brees, Winny eating his W(ang)s and even Payton yucking ( no pun intended ) it up in the visitor’s locker room.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:45 pm
I won’t miss him but I respect the heck out of him. One of the best ever. Class act too.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:48 pm
Yes and just know our bucs retired him as well. That fan base had become wildly ridiculous on the level of Cowboys fan ridiculous. I dont think JW will return to them to sit on the bench behind Taysom Hill. JW aint gotta go out like that. I was one of the fans who wildly wanted Winston here and here to be the man at that. He looked great on that pass in the playoff game legs reminded me of his fresh year at FSU. He took a beating for a long time I dont expect him to start anywhere right now but he should have better options like being a backup in Atl or a contender like the Titans. I dont see JW leaving the south though but he wont return to the Saints either. They will be a 5-7 win team next season I feel but Cowboys may honestly trade for their coach with Brees gone. I think this will be a domino effect ending for the Saints.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:50 pm
The South is ours, the whole damn NFL is ours.
March 14th, 2021 at 9:57 pm
Eat a W … time has arrive in Nola.
But who cares. Move on. Acouple hours to go. Let’s make a splash FA or trade for obj!
March 14th, 2021 at 9:58 pm
With Brees gone Brady passes his record career regular season passing yards mark by Game 6. No one on the career passing yards or TDs list will catch him. No one.
March 14th, 2021 at 10:01 pm
Adrnagy you must not read the news much. Did someone hit you on the head and tell you it was 2011?
March 14th, 2021 at 11:00 pm
Good riddance. never liked him – whinny little puss
His “apology” last year to the woke mob after expressing an honest and valid opinion was shameful and sad.
March 14th, 2021 at 11:01 pm
“While it was likely Brees was going to retire, Joe learned long ago not to believe a retirement until it’s official.”
While I’m on board with your sentiment here, Joe, I knew that Brees was finished when I saw him look back over his shoulder one final time as he was going into the tunnel after the Bucs’ win in the Divisional round. For me, it was the perfect nightcap to an already awesome day!
March 14th, 2021 at 11:06 pm
Shameful or smart?
Brees has a helluva nice job lined up with NBC which will pay him several million dollars. That would have blown up in smoke if he didn’t respond. Ask Warren Sapp how often jobs like that become available.
March 14th, 2021 at 11:06 pm
Proofread please. This one not too bad but annoying.
March 14th, 2021 at 11:36 pm
WOW! within 3 articles the Bucs fans are reminded of the decade long night mare of the Bucs putrid first round QB picks!
March 14th, 2021 at 11:54 pm
Anyone know Brees career W/L record vs the Bucs? Have to imagine its pretty great.
March 14th, 2021 at 11:57 pm
Nvm found it….Brees was 20-10 against the Bucs and TB is the only team Brees has beat 20 plus times.
March 15th, 2021 at 2:50 am
Ain’t no such thing as a win lost record for a quarterback lol lol 😆 😂. Boy yall are a trip with that fake stat lol 😆 😂 🤣 !!! And thing the national media comes out with yall just jump on it and believe everything they say like if it’s the gospel truth.
March 15th, 2021 at 3:52 am
Now saints fans get to see what Brees means to them. Which is consistent high level play.
March 15th, 2021 at 3:58 am
Oneilbucs you have nothing original to say? You still come here pushing that crap you read from a dude on Twitter smh. You have some of the worst post here. Every post from you is rooted in an excuse for failure!!!!!
March 15th, 2021 at 7:41 am
Oneilyall, the ONLY player that can win or lose a game from an individual perspective is the QB. If he is playing horrible then chances are no W. What I can say with confidence is if you brother in law Jamais is NO QB, Bucs go 2-0 in that series.
March 15th, 2021 at 8:27 am
Iistnfrmafar. Football games or won in the trenches because look what we did to the Kansas city. There go your proof and what happened when Brady threw three interceptions and our defense step up . What happened in every game we lost this pass year we lost in the trenches. That’s how you win and lose games regardless who the quarterback is.
March 15th, 2021 at 9:27 am
The score was 28-10 when those int’s were thrown and ZERO lead to scores!!! You must of.played O or D line and your coaches told you that your whole life so you would perform. There have only been two cases where below average QB’s won SB’S. Trent Dilfer & Brad Johnson (played against Rich Gannon who also sucked). In both cases I will agree with you the defenses won those games. Bucs scored 31 points in SB and KC receivers dropped 2 passes that hit receivers in helmets. KC would be a 6-10 team without Mahomes and the Bucs proved they were 7-9 team without Brady. Oh and don’t say 2019 Bucs D sucked because they had 9 of the 11 players come back. Booha.
March 15th, 2021 at 10:51 am
God bless you Jameis Winston!
March 15th, 2021 at 11:26 am
I disagree the Brad Johnson was a below average QB. I laugh at people who say this because they have NO IDEA what they are talking about. Brad johnson led the NFC in QB rating our 1st super bowl win. Yes, the defense won us the SB but learn something before running off at the mouth on these you know NOTHING about.

1st Super Bowl year*
March 15th, 2021 at 12:01 pm
The way I see is this if you are 25 to 32 years of age then all you know about is the 2000s to now . You really don’t know the football I grew up watching. So you really don’t know about Elway , Montana, Moon , Jim Kelly , Marino, Akiman, and others . I grew up watching them play the game . So that’s why I can’t say Brady is the best . It’s a different kind of football that was played . It was hard to throw for 4000 yards back then and Marino threw for 5000 yards . And I know it’s people oder then me that will say Brady is the best . But if you go back and watch some of those games and if you not bias you know some of the stuff Elway did Brady couldn’t do .
March 15th, 2021 at 12:08 pm
Anoymous, maybe it is you that should rethink your response. Johnson played from 1992 to 2008 during his stellar career he threw for 29, 054 yards or 1816 a season ( I rounded up for you) with a TD to int comparison of 166-122. I guess you were one of those who wanted to keep Winston.
March 15th, 2021 at 12:09 pm
And let me say this about the average quarterbacks winning superbowls . Don’t forget about Phil Simms, Jeff Hosteller , Payton Manning last year and the 85 bears quarterback Trent Dillfer and Nick Foles . You can win a championship with a average quarterback and a good defense with a running game . How many hall of fame quarterbacks that never won it or even made it to the superbowl . So that’s why I believe the way I believe that a win lost record is not a quarterback stat it’s fake the media say that because they want the quarterback to be the hero so they push that position . That’s why I will never believe everything the media say about sports . How many times have they talk bad about Sam Donald ??
March 15th, 2021 at 12:41 pm
Oneilyall, I can’t argue with you any more you’re a Brady hater. All Marino did was throw to Duper and Marion. Brady has played in 10 SB’S and won 7. Not one of the QB’s you listed came close. Brady has won for over 20 years, you are insane to compare him to any QB, past & present. Even Mahomes who was supposed to be the next coming got humbled.
March 15th, 2021 at 12:59 pm
So just because I say Brady ain’t the goat to me I’m hater now ?? Ok lol 😆 😂 🤣. You are a Brady fan I’m sure you are not a real bucs are you ?? So if someone say Bill Russell is the goat dose that mean they are Jordan or LeBron haters as well ?? Man it’s all opinion not facts . No one can prove who’s the best in team sports it’s all a bunch of opinions bro .
March 15th, 2021 at 1:18 pm
I just wanna know how a certain troll is always trying to school people??? And has been absolutely wrong about everything for 2 years straight. Where they do that at only joebucsfan.com 😂😂
March 15th, 2021 at 1:31 pm
Saints had to lose a lot of good players to get under the cap. I think we got them next year. I do hope Jameis gets his shot though. I want to see what sitting a year under a very good coaching staff and QB did for him.
March 15th, 2021 at 3:23 pm
At least “America’s Quarterback” won’t be playing for the new “America’s Team” any time soon.
By “America’s Team” I mean the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of course! 😁
March 15th, 2021 at 4:16 pm
Oneilbuc is seriously brain damaged. I watched the QBs he mentioned, hell I watched Starr and Unitas and Namath and Bradshaw and Staubach. Multiple proof points for Brady being the uncontested GOAT. Period.
Go inhale some more glue, Oneilbuc.
