Talks hugging Tom Brady.
Bucs nose tackle Vita Vea made an appearance on “Good Morning Football” today and he was talking offense.
The gang at the breakfast table was geeking over Vea taking three snaps on offense in the Super Bowl (apparently they forgot he caught a touchdown pass in 2019 at Atlanta). While highlights of Vea as a high school running back aired, e was peppered with questions about playing fullback in a Super Bowl.
“I was just in there blocking,” Vea said. “I told them whatever you want me to do I will do it. All they had me do was go in and block and I was fine with that.
“It is always nerve-racking going in there on offense being that I don’t play offense, I’m a defensive guy. Just going out there and you are not used to playing offense every day. You go ‘Dang, I don’t know what is going on but I will give it my best.'”
Vea regaled the GMFB gang about how in high school he once played Wildcat and got the ball 10 times in a row. After the seventh straight carry, he looked to his coach and tapped his helmet — the universal football sign for “I need a breather.”
His coach yelled back that he was doing so well he had to score on that drive, Vea said.
Also, Vea gave fellow defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh a shoutout. He said Suh kept his confidence up that he could return after fracturing his ankle against the Bears in Week 5. Suh told him how Aqib Talib had a similar injury and returned for the Super Bowl.
That, Vea said, kept him motivated during rehab. And that’s just what Vea did — returned for the playoffs and he was a monster.

I am glad he came back because I dont think we win the super bowl so easily. He makes a big difference with that push up the middle that collapses the pocket.

Robert – As Suh was the second pick of the draft I doubt we find another in the midrounds. Just saying.

There isn’t any talent at the DL position that approaches Suh this year. I hope we resign nacho and Khalil Davis develops. I also hope Tampa drafts Azeez Olujari or Patrick Jones II in the first round. Those are the best pass rushers in the draft. Olujari is a complete football player and plays the run well too. Jones II has exceptional length, and pursuit but is a tad unpolished in his pass rushing moves. They could also sign Kyle Van Noy as a rotational piece.

…can you imaging how easy our FA can be, if we start by just let go the great ShB and CG14. Then resign the players we need/want/believe, keep 85% of the SB team together, and with the money left, if any, and the draft we complete the 15%.
We should be fine with TB12 + 85% of the SB team, right? No, I firmly believe we are contender for 2021 with TB12 + 85% of the SB team.

Chris Godwin is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but Jenna Laine of ESPN reported the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no intention of letting him leave.
Though the plan is to sign the receiver to a long-term deal, Laine reported “things are headed” toward the team using the franchise tag.

One of the things I feel best about is that we seem to have the personnel and general organizational structure in place that we know how to target and sign role players when something happens to a starter, to get the job done. Haven’t seen it mentioned before, but the ability to pick, sign, plug and play effectively is a great achievement.

Robert/SC Bucs – I love reminiscing about Suh’s college days. He was the greatest college defensive lineman I’ve ever seen. An absolute force of nature. No, there’s no one in this year’s draft (or almost every year’s draft) that is another Suh.

This isn’t against Vita, but if they didn’t do that nonsense at the goalline with the pass to the offensive lineman and bringing in Vita and then playing him outside, the Bucs win that game by 7 more. Thankfully it didn’t matter. But that series at the goalline was as stupid as it could be, just run it up the gut and stop with the gimmicks, the Chiefs couldn’t stop the run and the Bucs basically gave them an extra down with the pass and then brought out Vita to basically be a TE. If you keep Vita in the backfield as a FB and let him get a few steps of momentum going, then maybe you got something, but just putting him on end… just play a real TE or offensive lineman if that’s the goal.

bringing in Vea as a FB was absolutely fine. The stupidity was when they wasted a down and passed. When you’re that close just bring in the big boys and just pound it all 4 downs

Jmarkbuc – why is it genius? You’re at the 6 inch line, just have Brady sneak it or run it up the middle. Vita coming in didn’t do anything to help them. As I said, had he played back as a FB and got a step or two going, then maybe he helps (although I don’t know how he helps more than another offensive lineman or TE) – but having him in the backfield, then shifting out to the end of the line where he’s not involved in the played – it was a terrible call.
As I said, thankfully, it didn’t matter. But the offense left points on the field, and had the defense not had their best game of the year, it might have mattered. Need to clean that stuff up, and stop with the gimmicks, like the stupid Miller end around that didn’t work all year.
