Why Wouldn’t Brady Play?
March 5th, 2021Just in case anyone was curious about next season, while covered in confetti in the House That Sapp Built, “Yeah, I’m coming back” was the answer to Jim Nantz’s question to park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.
(Joe guesses this irked Mrs. Brady.)
And why wouldn’t Brady want to play ball in Tampa? Let’s assume the Bucs keep free agent receiver Chris Godwin (Joe’s fingers are crossed). That gives Brady and the Bucs two of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL.
Brady made no secret, when Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht first sweet-talked the legend to come to Tampa Bay, that Licht made the smart phone call. Brady and his people knew what the Bucs had to offer.
Consider this tweet from @NFL_Stats:
WRs with 7+ receiving TDs in each of the last 3 seasons…
• Mike Evans
• Chris Godwin
• Tyreek Hill
• Tyler Lockett

Then throw in furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing receiver Antonio Brown. Before he went mental two years ago, Brown wasn’t just thought of as a good receiver. He was elite and headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
And then he lost his damn mind.
The above stat doesn’t even factor in the tight ends.
Why would Brady retire? Shoot, with weapons like the Bucs have, Roger Staubach might have come out of retirement to throw to those guys.

AB will have 10+ next year

Brady would/will be miserable in retirement…especially if it’s at the point of his wife’s bayonet. Let him play two more years…they’ll have the rest of their lives to “hang out”. Brady doesn’t strike me as the kind of cat who “idles well”…at all.

It’s not just the weapons…..it’s the Oline…..& to some degree the Defense & the Coaches…..

Winny, I have a feeling that Brady is trying to cover that angle with his nutrition/health products company. I don’t have a lot of confidence in that venture, but I think he plans on promoting it heavily after he hangs the cleats up for the last time.
He’s like Jordan and Kobe, neither can just enjoy retirement. Jordan leveraged his brand and money successfully. Kobe was just Kobe. He plunged himself into learning about business (his work ethic and IQ were sky high) and became a very successful investor. And if that wasn’t enough, he won an Academy Award for producing and writing that beautiful animated biopic, Dear Basketball.
Brady will find something, he has the same level of obsession and restlessness as Jordan and Kobe.

He plays because he loves to at this point. Really the only thing stopping or trying to stop him is his wife. Women love to stop men from doing the things they love.

Naturally he worries about injuries. But our OL is about as protective as one could find. Plus TB knows how to minimize the chances of a hard hit. I think those are factors.

Having fun. Check.
Having success. Check.
Healthy. Check.
If all the boxes are checked. Why does age matter?

Two words: RE-PEAT!!!!!
(and yes, I know it’s one word! Say it emphatically.)
RE…PEAT!!!
Don’t be scared to think it! Why not us?!

PassingThru, you make very good points with regard to Jordan (and Kolbi). Brady is one of the very few that I would put in Jordan’s category when it comes to competitiveness and smarts.
But, you left out something very important. Even with Jordan’s empire, he can’t replace the comradery of the locker room and the games and going to battle with your teammates and that final decisive score at the end. Business is not at all like that. Yes, one can point to a bank account and yell “score board”. But who “won” each individual business transaction is usually decided over time – not instantly.
Montana recently told Brady to keep playing until he can’t, for this reason.

Don’t forget, TB12 is the anti Allen Iverson. He loves practice just as much as the games.

Hey does Brady ever get over the crap you start with before his name ! I don’t see SB MVP ?
