Fighting For Chris Godwin
February 25th, 2021Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians may have given Team Glazer unexpected indigestion again yesterday.
Ever since the Bucs won the Super Bowl, Arians has been raving about Pro Bowl receiver Chris Godwin. Who doesn’t remember Arians’ Bud Light-fueled ranting about keeping the band together after the Bucs disembarked from their parade boats?
At one point, Arians even said to Godwin, “Your @ss ain’t going nowhere, either.”
Godwin’s agent Tory Dandy’s eyes must have lit up with dollar signs.
Yesterday in his offseason media availability, Arians had no filter when asked about Godwin. Arians positively gushed and said he’s much more than the numbers he puts up.
“He brings so much more than targets,” Arians said. “When you look at what he does as an outside receiver and a slot receiver, he’s so unique in that regard, and then you put the blocking in there.
“He’s a huge part of what we do offensively. It’s more than stats. It’s also what the guy brings to the huddle. I think with all these guys, each and every one is so different because of what they bring into the huddle, but Chris is very, very unique.”
Joe is guessing Godwin’s agent heard that and then called Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and upped the ransom demand for Godwin to stay in Tampa Bay.
Look, Joe is the first one to bow in honor of Arians. He’s the best coach in franchise history, proving it by winning a Super Bowl in only his second season after taking over a moribund franchise.
But dang, man, you aren’t doing Team Glazer or Licht any favors building up a guy that’s already going to cost an arm and a leg to keep.
In strictly a football sense, Joe loved hearing what Arians said about Godwin. But what Arians is doing is like going to a real estate agent with little inventory and demanding property in only one neighborhood.
Oh, she will find you property in that neighborhood alright. And she will jam you for it.
Remember, the NFL is a business.

My wife & I went shopping for a car…….she said to the salesman “I really love that car, that’s the one I want”…..I knew negotiating wasn’t going to be easy.
February 25th, 2021 at 10:12 am
This is overblown. The market for Godwin is the market for Godwin. A coach saying nice things isn’t going to raise his price tag any more than it’s already raised.
February 25th, 2021 at 10:14 am
Using the same argument, if coach kept talking about his drops late in the season do you think that’s going to lower his price? Nope.
February 25th, 2021 at 10:20 am
Godwin is gone. Bucs get 3rd rd compensatory pick. David is likely gone. I’m ok with that
February 25th, 2021 at 10:23 am
What does that make Gruden who won a Superbowl in his first season as head coach?
February 25th, 2021 at 10:27 am
Doubt Bucs will resign Godwin or David. Their price will be too high.
Suh, Gronkowski, Brown and Fournette are easier to sign.
Shaq may also be impossible t sign, too.
Other free agents I’m not sure about.
We will need to strike gold in the draft or find hidden gems in free agency. Money talks.
February 25th, 2021 at 10:27 am
He may not have to do the Glazers any favors if the deals are already done.

Duemig FH: If your name didn’t give away that you’re a dumbfounded dipsh!t, your post surely did. You have to be one of the famous trolls (Ndog? Realisto?) from years gone by.
February 25th, 2021 at 10:58 am
@TBBF that made me lol.
February 25th, 2021 at 11:07 am
TBBF … LMAO on your car shopping adventure. Don’t feel bad, my wife did that same thing … with a house. We bought it of course, and just about had to survive on franks & beans for the whole 3 years we lived in that $%&#@ thing. (I now do all my shopping online, in the middle of the night, while she’s asleep).

It is common for a good coach to rave about players even if they are on their way out because they feel it will help them get rewarded where they are going.
Case in point Jameass Winsnone, Arians had glowing praise for the loser which could have helped land him someplace which turned out to be the Saints.
What coach is gonna say “wow Jameass stinks glad he is leaving”? lol Good coaches build up a player’s confidence despite who they are.
February 25th, 2021 at 11:30 am
The last post was mine.
February 25th, 2021 at 11:37 am
Well apparently my last post disappeared into the great void of space.
The gist of it was Coaches always praise players even if they are on the way out the door.
A great example of this would be Jameass Winsnone, Arians had glowing praise for him as he was pushed out the door to try and help the guy find another job, luckily he found that the Saints wanted him to spill his guts about the Bucs game plan. What a tool.

Gruden was the best coach anyone who dislikes him loves Tony Dumbgy the coach who could not win with the best defense in Tampa and only one in Indianapolis with the best offense. Good man, good Christian, middle of the road head coach. Gruden had 22 new players out of 54 not Tony,s team. Get a clue.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:02 pm
Don
I know right. And that was with Brad Johnson at QB. And how many times has BA said he does none of the coaching. It’s kinda a joke when he gets so much credit when he’s made that public. But he did bring in a big long list of good coaches he’s worked with before.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:08 pm
Two guys in the picture and Succop are the top three. You can drop the rest, and Donovan Smith, if it came down to it.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:13 pm
Arians knows he can’t afford to keep Godwin so he is playing him up so he can get a big payday from another team.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:28 pm
Well, anyone who watched the games knows that Arians was simply telling the truth about Godwin.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:32 pm
He’s likely looking for +ME13 $. Through all of the love his way, along with the tag. Sign 58 long term this year and keep negotiating a long term deal with CG.
February 25th, 2021 at 12:35 pm
Start with $40 million and work your way down the list.
By the time you pay for this years draft picks, a QB2, QB3, kicker and long snapper you have @ $23.5 mil.
We have 15-20 more free agents to sign.
Keep in mind we need 4-5 DBs, 3-4 backup offensive lineman, 2-3 LBs, 2 IDL, 2 TEs, 2-3 WRs and a pass rusher.
Have fun with that conundrum…
February 25th, 2021 at 12:37 pm
I forgot we also need 2 RBs…
February 25th, 2021 at 12:48 pm
coach sanders on twitter @jaasonho10614954 is the person to follow. called brady months before last season and the JPP trade. Godwin will get tag. Brown and fornette are gone!
February 25th, 2021 at 12:56 pm
Arians had Tom Brady, Gruden had Brad Johnson, Dungy turned the whole franchise around. Arians is a very good coach but the best is a matter of opinion.
February 25th, 2021 at 1:01 pm
dungy had the best team in NFL on paper for 10 years. He only won SB when he had the best QB of all time in his prime. Dungy BLows! COnfirmed from multiple coachs including MOnte.
February 25th, 2021 at 1:08 pm
Don’t forget the Bucs have plenty of cap space in 2022 and 2023…we can use these years to help off-set some 2021 dollars…with 2yrs being our window…we can get this done…need to be creative and we’ll need to payout some upfront money…which we’ve normally not done, but again…our window is now…the Glaziers will step up.
Go Bucs!
February 25th, 2021 at 1:13 pm
Steven007.
Exactly. Starting to think Joes do this for eyeballs. No way they cant figure out these things before writing.
February 25th, 2021 at 2:53 pm
Think the Bucs will rework contracts, backload contracts and pay bonuses amortized over three years. Because the next years cap will increase dramatically, I don’t think Bucs will end up like the Saints this year. The Glazers know damn well that their window of opportunity is closing fast and to repeat next year they are going to need to keep our top players especially on the D.
February 25th, 2021 at 4:26 pm
@ Don That makes Gruden lucky, he inherited a team that only needed a little more creative offense, defense was top shelf already. And he should have gotten hold of Dungy and thanked him for what was already set in place.
February 25th, 2021 at 6:02 pm
People want to get their money and the respect owed to them. People want the money guaranteed. But they don’t need the money next year. They can restructure and take their money later.
Licht will be doing some major contract negotiations this year and not just with the FA’s.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:30 pm
I also saw all those drops Chris Godwin had. Let Chris go. Definitely keep playoff Lenny . Get Jules from NE and try to bring Defense back intact.
February 26th, 2021 at 5:12 am
I am taking a different angle on Arian’s Godwin comments. BA is showing CG lots of love because BA knows we can’t afford Godwin and he expects him to sign with another team. Then BA can say, “we wanted him, but Godwin wanted the big contract”.
February 26th, 2021 at 12:06 pm
Well so what with wife shoppong mine wants to report me missing but i refuse to leave
Lol with that. Just sign the Good _ giy top notch receiver
