Tristan Wirfs Reveals A Deep Connection With Rob Gronkowski

The Bucs’ old Hall of Fame warrior tight end and their superstar rookie had a deep bond before they ever stepped on the field.
This was a new nugget to Joe upon hearing it this week.
At the University of Iowa, Tristan Wirfs’ offensive coordinator was Brian Ferentz, a former NFL offensive lineman and Patriots coach. Ferentz, the son of Iowa’s head coach, coached up Wirfs in college and also was Rob Gronkowski’s blocking-focused tight ends coach in New England.
Wirfs explained a bit on SiriusXM NFL Radio recently that Ferentz was their connection that never faded.
“‘I don’t know why, but he’d always talk about how I’d block at Iowa and how [Ferentz] taught him to block. I don’t know how we always got on that topic of conversation,” Wirfs said of his relationship with Gronk.
“But it was fun; we’d help each other out quite a bit. You know, he loves blocking. It’s crazy. Like a lot of guys love catching passes and scoring touchdowns, but he loves blocking. It’s the funniest thing.”
Wirfs added that Gronk is “so cool’ and he recalled that once Gronk delivered his trademark laugh while blocking a defensive player.
Just another story of the magical 2020 Bucs came together on so many levels.

Rob Gronkowski was worth $5mil of his $10 just to be on the team…in public and in the locker room. What a great personality. i sure hope we find a way to keep him on the team.

That is legendary. I think it might take many, many years before people realize what a special team that 2920 squad was. That doesn’t mean I’m not hoping for back to back titles. But, the talent of this roster, mixed between young and old, is all time.

Orlovsky is amazing, he got paid millions to run out the back of the endzone and not recognize the play was dead when he did that, now he gets paid millions to demonstrate how much he doesn’t know in the media.
Amazing , he’s always been second rate but he’s making a ton of dough at not being good !

Gronk stated in the past he would only catch passes from one QB. Belichick was trying to trade him to Detriot, Gronk to Kraft & BB trade me and he would retire. His personality is light and infectious, he helps Brady with the young guys. This is where Brady steps up takes less so AB & Gronk are back. Maybe BA should hire Ferentz, he seems to do a really good job.

When Gronk went down in New England, the running game was not nearly as effective. He’s the best blocking TE. Other aspects of the offense improve with him in there. And as you saw he’ll make the big plays; game changers. TB12 knows just where to throw it for the big guy, and no one can stop him. Gonna double team others, Brady will find Gronk; gonna double/triple team Gronk (like he was in NE), TB12 will find the others. Bring it on!

I sure OJ Howard will be good to go in the fall and that he’s been studying and learning from Gronk throughout this championship run. If so, the offense will definitely be that much more lethal next year.
Really can’t wait until the fall so the Bucs can do it again!
