“He’s Worth It”
February 16th, 2021Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith protects his quarterback’s blind side on the field and off.
Last week after the boat parade when Bucs players disembarked their vessels at a dock for a Super Bowl-winning ceremony, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady looked a noodle-legged and in need of assistance from backup quarterback Ryan Griffin.
We’ve all been there.
In an interview with TMZ, Smith had Brady’s back. Again.
Smith told TMZ if Brady wanted a few shots of tequila to celebrate leading the Bucs — the Bucs! — to a Super Bowl title, he absolutely earned the right.
“If my man’s had a couple drinks, he deserves it!” Smith says. “You feel me? We all deserve it! I wish I had one right now.”
Smith added he and his teammates are still having a good time in the aftermath of the Bucs winning a Super Bowl for the second time in franchise history.
“To see all your hard work pay off that you put in throughout the year, it’s huge,” Smith said. “Not only did it pay off [with a Super Bowl win], it paid off at home which was even better.
“We’re still living it up.”
Joe is sure glad to see the Bucs taking the advice of Tampa Bay radio legend Tedd Webb, who would sign off his Friday shows by hollering, “Live it up!”

I thought this article would have been @ Smith being worth his 14.5 million contract next year…which I believe he is…much to DoucheLeDoosh’s chagrin.

DS stepped up when needed. I’ll take a serving of crow.
February 16th, 2021 at 10:29 am
After the Chicago game when Brady was on the turf rolling his eyes I thought DS was on limited time. he proved us all wrong.

I think Smith has matured a lot this past season. The man has been a beast protecting Brady. He deserves to have a nice cold one himself. Good luck on next season big fella.
February 16th, 2021 at 10:41 am
And remember DS almost opted out of the season because of Covid concerns. He was a huge piece to the puzzle. Thanks for sticking it out Donovan.
February 16th, 2021 at 10:45 am
Great job, D Smith, you played as well as we hoped you would. Now we need you and Brady to do the Bucs a solid and restructure to keep the core players for another year. Thanks in advance!
February 16th, 2021 at 10:46 am
D. Smith was in “Beast Mode” this past season. What a turnaround for the man.
February 16th, 2021 at 10:47 am
Hey D.Smith, aren’t you glad that you did not opt out for da covid last year?
February 16th, 2021 at 11:22 am
I just hope he keeps playing this way going forward. We now know he’s capable so there are no excuses.
February 16th, 2021 at 11:26 am
Donovan Smith reverted this past year to the dominate Tackle he was at Penn State.
I will never forget the way he stonewalled my Michigan Pass Rushers when they played.
February 16th, 2021 at 11:44 am
“Highway 76” no more…D. Smith looked like a different player after the Chicago game. His overall effort level was MUCH improved and he played with a chip on his shoulder. He stopped being a perceived liability and was a big, big part of this amazing run. Hat’s off to you Donny!!!
February 16th, 2021 at 12:10 pm
Keep Donovan Smith. No matter what. This guy is a damn good LT.
February 16th, 2021 at 12:20 pm
No one is complaining about the O Line for the first time in a long time. Keep this group intact (Smith included). The depth is good too. The Bucs are set for the next 4-5 years.
February 16th, 2021 at 1:24 pm
Watch the tape suckers.
That’s all I have to say….. watch the tape.
If you still believe he’s great then I don’t know what to tell you.
February 16th, 2021 at 1:51 pm
This team came together and got it done. They definitely deserve to enjoy the win!
February 16th, 2021 at 1:56 pm
DS sure did earn it….and he’s worth every penny…
GO BUCS!!!
February 16th, 2021 at 2:18 pm
Man, I hadn’t heard he almost opted out. THAT would have put Wirf’s on the LT spot
February 16th, 2021 at 3:14 pm
As long as Wirfs is around slow Donnie will pick up his game. Do you really think it took him 6 years to figure out he needed to give more effort? No! It was because Donnie looked down the line and saw his replacement every day out play him and that would cost slow Donnie big bucks. If the Bucs released or didn’t resign him there’s no guarantee that another team would pony up LT money.
It’s so obvious.

This coming season age of O line.
Only Cappa and Wirfs are that age now. The rest will be turning that age over the coming months.
Smith – 28
Marpet – 28
Jensen – 30
Cappa – 26
Wirfs – 22
Haeg – 28
Stinnie – 27
I think they have a rookie center/guard in camp as well.
Basically the line is very young and everyone should stay put.
February 16th, 2021 at 6:28 pm
DS rose to the challenge!! He’s earned a contract extension!!
February 16th, 2021 at 7:12 pm
Add Jackson Carman to the mix and we’re golden on the O line for a while…even if we dont draft him, we’re gold, but that kid is another beast!
February 16th, 2021 at 8:04 pm
Get Smith to restructure if he wants to stay with Tom. Playing with four other olinemen that are better than him.
February 17th, 2021 at 9:50 pm
I have been one of D Smith’s biggest critic over the years but he has improved his play in order to keep Brady standing and Brady likes him too and won a Super Bowl with him also and Smith got a Super Bowl ring. So we need to keep him. Offensive Linemen can also play well into their thirties too!
