“I Don’t Let It Get To Me; I Just Let It Motivate Me.”
February 11th, 2021Joe has written about how extra motivated the Bucs secondary was all season after NFL Network ranked Bucs cornerbacks as 32nd-best in the game.
But the motivation runs deeper than that.
Seemingly every defensive back on the Bucs is fueled by a each negative whisper — and scream — on various forms of media.
Speaking to Friend of Joe host Alex Marvez on SiriusXM NFL Radio, warrior safety Jordan Whitehead explained his view of doubting comments and how he uses them.
“I don’t let it get to me. I just let it motivate me,” Whitehead said of media criticism. “After the game, I go on Twitter and I see some stuff. And I screenshot it and I hold it throughout the week and just look at it.”
That’s wild, and Whitehead said that routine continued into the playoffs. Joe hopes the Bucs find ways to stay so motivated next season now that they’ve reached the top of the mountain.
Joe can almost relate.
Since the early months of JoeBucsFan.com, Joe has dealt with a barrage of horrible insults from all angles, including from allegedly media savvy folks telling Joe that this website is a joke and doomed to fail. It’s been a motivator in the past, but now Joe just tunes it out. (Joe’s personal favorite are the idiots who long have claimed Joe wants the Bucs to lose because it’s good for business. Yeah, because everybody loves to read about a losing team. SMDH)
Whitehead shed a little more light on NFL Radio when he said he was so happy for Carlton Davis’ “revenge game” Super Bowl for what happened in Week 12 against Tyreek Hill and the Chiefs.

Whole new respect for that guy after playing with those injuries.

It’s a passing league. There was evidence of the turn around last season but many did not want to believe it.
The coaching of the DB’s and the Offensive line of this coaching staff has been one of the difference makers for us winning that gets overlooked.

Dunno where the plan for the first KC game came from, but Bowles really stepped up brilliantly for the SB; I imagine the steadily improving communication among the secondary helped them execute so well–the group is a great story. I loved the report that in preseason Lavonte was wondering who the hell was barking orders from behind him, only to learn that it was the new kid, Winfield. Wow.

Played with Torn labrum. Thats legend.
Crazy we keep talking about players to keep and throw money at
Almost our entire secondary contracts are about to expire
It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes.

Rooted for Whitehead ever since he was drafted. He’ll be back.

Joe…don’t agree with every perspective…but I always appreciate the fact that you put in a great deal of work in to publish a great deal of news. And there is always something informative and entertaining. So yeah… keep firing the cannon.

First KC game proved that only Cheetah is faster than CD

Let’s just hope they don’t start reading their clips next year and let it get to their heads. We’re the best, but we gotta STAY the head

No question in my mind that Whitehead is a true warrior. Nothing was gonna keep him from playing in that Super Bowl. Looks like he played slightly over 2/3rds of the game despite the bum shoulder.
Noticed something else though that I haven’t heard anyone mention yet, and that was how effective LVD & White were in pass protection. LVD was targeted 10 times & allowed only 5 completions for 50 yds. White was targeted 12 times, and allowed only 7 completions for 96 yds.
Interestingly, our whole Secondary was only targeted 25 times in the game, and only allowed 13 completions for 124 yds. That’s crazy good, especially for our ILBs who weren’t exactly noted for their pass defense during the regular season. Amazing what a great pass rush can do. Probably why BA & JL were so adamant yesterday that everyone’s coming back for another go at it?

Grave Diggers!
Davis
Whitehead
Winfield
SMB
Dean
Edwards
They all just kept improving and improving.
Last year A lot of people were getting down on some of them And i kept saying we need to give them time, they’re young.
They started out a little slow this year, giving up too many big plays.
Maybe some of it was Bowles not knowing the best fit and play call.
Whatever it was, they all learned and got better and better the the second half of the season and were fantastic in the playoffs.
For the record – every one of them (except I’m not sure about Edwards)
have 2 – 3 more years on their contracts

Great job proving the doubters wrong JBF.

Hey Joe, i’ve been following your website, something like forever, and to me, it’s one of the best site for football addicts (and Bucs fan, obviously !). Keep up the good work !!!!

I hope his shoulder does not pop in and out like Noah Spence. We will see if they bring in a safety through the draft or free agency, that will tell us what Mgt is thinking about his injury. I hope somehow he can play at a high level again, we will see. It is always fun to see big hitters play. He helped bigtime in G Bay, when he caused a game changing fumble picked up by D White and run down to the 8 yard line and then 1 play later Brady hit Brate for a quick score. GO WORLD CHAMPION BUCS!!!!!!

I have felt very good about Winfield, Davis and Whitehead and ok with Edwards as a backup. I’ll admit I was less than completely positive on SMB and Dean but Sean really stepped up during the playoffs and Dean looked better as well. I still think we could use another high draft pick there. I think a 3rd rounder now instead of the 2nd rounder I thought earlier in the year.

I have to admit that when the secondary was being built I had little faith in the fellas. Whitfield was a great pick but the rest I just thought were a waste of time.
My brother told me to give them a chance to grow and I thought they were just too torched by all of the great QBs in the league. I admit that he was right and I was wrong and impatient. Now, all of them have a ring and are the main reason that I nicknamed the defense the Plunderin’ D.

Whitehead is a gamer and enforcer! Love his tenacity!

The NFL Films video/audio of Devin White on the phone mocking Tyreek Hill is hilarious! Wait until the confetti is falling before you talk trash!

Y’all sleeping on Edwards is ridiculous. He’s our best coverage safety easily. He may push Winfield to SS and Whitehead to backup. But do we want him off the field? Three very talented guys.
