Two Words Say It all

February 8th, 2021

Summed up the season.

Joe thinks of three players when reliving the Bucs winning the Super Bowl last night.

All three know what losing is like and playing for a franchise that had sadly sunken to the depths of football, where losing was expected and woven into the very fabric of their alarm clock uniform numbers.

Lavonte David, Will Gholston and Mike Evans — particularly David and Gholston. While Evans knew losing all too well, he was regarded throughout the league as a high-level player and fierce competititor.

David had been dissed year after year despite putting up numbers equivalent to linebackers spoke of as Hall of Fame candidates. But David toiled for a horrible franchise that few wanted to watch, not even their own fans, judging by the tens of thousands of empty red seats on Sundays masquerading as Bucs faithful.

David, maybe at the end of his Bucs days, walked off the field of maybe his final home game with confetti still flying in the night sky, holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Gholston is just a quiet, blue-collar lunch-pail worker who gladly did the dirty work that got little attention (play the run, eat up blockers) if that’s what it took to win.

Joe also thought of Ronald Jones. Joe may have been his loudest critic. And that was for one simple reason: He didn’t produce. (Joe is a simple man, produce and you get props. Don’t produce? Get the hell out of the way for someone who can.) RoJo had some of the ugliest stats running backs have ever had.

Not only was Joe stoked that RoJo turned around his season this year, especially after the Bucs added four running backs in the offseason — four! Rojo finally found the switch that worked. He should have had 1,000 yards rushing.

And last night on social media, RoJo, with his clothes still dripping from beer and champagne and Gatorade (what a combination!), posted maybe the most eloquent, succinct words about what Bucs fans throughout the globe witnessed these past three months.

Just heard the TV ratings for last night. More people from New England watched than Tampa. It pulled a 57 rating second highest of ALL Tom Brady SB’s.

  2. Theodore Says:

I feel bad Rojo couldn’t get in, hope he gets another chance one day.

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

I couldn’t help myself to read the Patriot’s and the Chief’s forum threads.

Patriots – Everyone is upset that Bill Belichick let Brady get away. Fans are now wondering if their success is from Brady or Belichick.

Chief – Fans are blaming the loss to Refs and the unfair penalties. They think if the refs would have stayed out of the game, the outcome would have been much different. Not all the fans are buying into this. Poor execution and the injuries on the Oline are the contributing factors for the Chief’s loss. No Chief fan believes that Brady and the Bucs were better. Chiefs just had a bad day.

  4. Cainishere Says:

Just goes to show that Arians BL TB and Brady all have the gift of bringing the very best out of players and creating a selfless team that is truly all for one.

  5. DoooshLaRue Says:

I would have liked to see ME13 get a TD and although Lenny did a great job, I wish Rojo would have had a few more carries.
It felt like he was gonna bust a long run.

Great game D, you deserve the majority of the credit but Tommy steered the ship straight.

    SB baby!!

Anyone know if it will be replayed?
I know it’s CBS and not NFL Network and not sure how that works.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

They all have rings now, Joe…..led by the “Lord of the Rings”

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @Theadore

Rojo played…..you must be thinking about Vaughn…

  8. Mike C Says:

Thanks ABF I wanted to know but didn’t feel like digging, figured that would be the way the Chiefs fans would look at it, but a few of the players even admitted it was a good old fashioned @$$ woopan.

  9. SB : Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

LOL at Mahomes’ mom! She is getting Killed by SF fans for complaining about the penalties! They are littering her page with meme after meme of how the officiating was one sided in their SB victory last yr.
    She wasn’t complaining last yr

  10. Cainishere Says:

Dear Kansas City Chiefs and fans,
Thank you for being so arrogant that you thought that in no way could you lose to the hapless Buccaneers.
Thank you for playing so aggressive in the early game so that it pissed off the Buccaneers players.
Thank you for Andy Reid thinking he was a great coach.
Thank you for placing all of your trust in just 3 players, amazing.
Thank you to the field goal kicker as he was your MVP. LMAO
Thank you for all the sour posts you fans are posting calling the Buccaneers trash compared to your mighty Chiefs, if you lost to trash what does that make you?
Thank you to all the sports commentators from KC who swore they had it in the bag. LOL you need a different job.
Most of all thank you to the Buses that made sure that the Chiefs arrived safely so that we could beat the tar out of them.
So much to be grateful for. GO BUCS REPEAT!!! Show the Chiefs how a repeat is done.

  11. ATLBucsFan Says:

Happy for all the players on the team that suffered through the hard times! Congratulations to the Bucs, the front office and all involved. Thanks to the Joe’s for bringing their knowledge and behind the scenes info to us fans! Go Bucs!!

  12. sauron's eye Says:

Happy for all the career bucs to taste this. Happy for playoff Lenny escaping the cesspool of JAX and winning also. Go bucs 2021. Hope we can retain a lot of FA players.

  13. Wesley Says:

Too bad Demar Dotson couldn’t be apart of this.

  14. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Not now, but I cannot wait until we start debating which of our SB champions wins a head to head. My son and I have been doing it all day. LOL

  15. theodore Says:

@Tampabaybucfan I was referring to the goal line stand. That could have been the game’s turning point, but our D and a bad punt kept us in good field position.

  16. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Doosh
    NFLN replayed at 330am..

Am sure they will again.. they own the rights. Prolly on tonight after TA. 7 pm.

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Thanks Jmark.

  18. SlyPirate Says:

“David, maybe at the end of his Bucs days …”

    Crazy but true.

AFC teams are going to want LVD for how he played Kelce. He can get majorly paid and why not. It’s likely his last contract.

If LVD moves on I’m glad it ended this way.

  19. SCBucsFan Says:

Game is on NFL network tonight at 8

  20. orlbucfan Says:

Most poignant image: LVD walking off the field holding the Vince Lombardi trophy. If any player in the NFL deserved such a moment, it is this first class human being, and future HOFamer. He will be back this fall. What a champion, and what a team. Super Bowl Champions in their home crib…I’m still wiping my eyes!?!

  21. JimmyJack Says:

I have a thousand words but i will like to say Thank You to the City of Tampa! The Winghouse was an epic night. Great party. Good clean fun. My one only complaint was the beers was at body temperature but I kinda liked it that way because it reminded me of being at RayJay.

Back to work for me but yall enjoy the parade!!!!!

  22. Alanbucsfan Says:

If they hadn’t wasted a down on the Haeg trick play – among other trick plays that didn’t work- Bucs would’ve scored at goal line and backs would’ve gained even more yardage.

  23. gotbbucs Says:

David did a hell of a job covering Kelce when it mattered.

  24. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Alan

Haeg play wasn’t wasted…I bet no one feels worse than him… could have had a TB TD.. something to tell his grandkids…

  25. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

It’s not like Haeg flat dropped the ball. It was knocked away. Good play by defender.

  26. JimmyJack Says:

What I realized in this game is Tom Brady didnt change everything. Cause didnt sign Tom. We signed Tom and Gronk.

They transformed this team together and Im not so sure Tom does this alone. Thats called teamwork. Im not sure how this team can be beaten next year……Im guessing that Saints will give us good games but if we can pull off a sweep will win win another bleeping ring. Flawlessly 19-0.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. unbelievable Says:

^yup – Can’t blame an o-lineman for not holding on, that was just good play by the defender.

  28. Will Says:

Any KC fan that blames that game on the refs has no clue about football. I could see that argument if they lost by a field goal or something but
HELLO YOU DIDN’T GET IN THE ENDZONE! Mahomes team for 498yds behind the line of scrimmage. It was a total domination by our defense. #1 offense doesn’t score a TD in a Superbowl, LOSSES by 22pts but it was the refs fault. GTFOH!

  29. Will Says:

    ran for 498yds
    Not team for 498yds

    My bad. Lol

  30. Steven Says:

Off-topic, but I just realized the Bucs scored 31 points in three out pf the four post season games and 30 and the other one.

  31. Steven Says:

Joe, why are my comments always awaiting moderation? Not sure I ever posted anything shady.

  32. Bird Says:

    Lavonte Aint going anywhere.
    He re-signs with bucs

  33. Bucsfansincegame1 Says:

I have friend in MA who is lifetime Patriots fan and she said the Bucs win gave her goosebumps and that people were shooting off fireworks all around her neighborhood after the game….Respect for the GOAT and Gronk!!!!

  34. TampaTown Says:

    Cainishere: that’s awesome. Well said

  35. David Says:

As far as I’m concerned there are four players they must resign-
    LVD
    Godwin
    Shaq
    Suh

  36. Defense Rules Says:

Can’t believe anyone is even talking about LVD possibly not getting a new contract. What brought this group of players together as a TEAM was having an excellent mix of veteran leadership & youth in the various position groups.

For the LBs, LVD is that veteran presence & he sets the tone. For the DLine, Suh is that veteran presence & he serves the same purpose IMO as LVD does. Without Suh, Shaq & JPP don’t feed (and they ate even better once Vea returned for the playoffs).

Bucs don’t have anyone ‘waiting in the wings’ to take Lavonte’s spot, and they can’t afford to spend a high pick this year to draft his replacement. LVD’s not going anywhere, and neither is Suh. Folks shouldn’t forget that they were both high round draft picks for a reason: they’re both exceptionally good. Ask the KC Chiefs if you don’t believe that.

  37. firethecannons Says:

ROJO had a great year and a good superbowl despite not getting punched through. he is a good back.

  38. Karma Says:

My wife said something hilarious….The streaker got in the endzone but the Chiefs couldn’t.

    Ouch!

  39. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

If you love it put a ring on it as Beyonce dang

  40. CalBucsFan Says:

Thank you to the overlooked but not forgotten ones in the Bucs’ organization, starting with all of the scouts, coaches, trainers, medical staff, equipment managers, chefs, including grounds and security gate keepers. Everyone of you helped make this incredible season a joyous celebration for the ages.

And to the Glazer family, GM Licht, HC Airens, OC Bowles and QB Coach Christiansen, thank you for Operation Shoeless Joe reported this morning on NFL’s own Good Morning Football. That’s an inside story that certainly earns two other words: THANK YOU!

  41. Seemore Bucs Says:

Steven, I saw a stat that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season are the only team in NFL History to score 30 or more points in 4 playoff games. And they probably should have scored more in each game! Truly a legendary run and performance by the Super Bowl LV CHAMPIONS. I will never get tired of or stop saying that. We are the best and finest team in pro football. CHAMPA BAY! GO BUCS!!!!

  42. Bucsfanman Says:

Yep, still complaining about the refs. Sorry but, pass interference is pass interference. You can’t tackle a guy and not expect to get some laundry thrown your way. Not even in the Super Bowl!
We punched them in the mouth!

  43. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Not surprised that more people from New England watched than Tampa.
I was actually chastised by some science denying Trump supporting folks on Facebook for even WATCHING this game!
Tampa is NOT a great sports town, as far as Football goes.

  44. OBF Says:

Too bad Dot missed out on a SB Ring,

  45. james west Says:

congrats rojo, i am guilty also after your first 2 seasons, i had written you off, as a bust but damn if you did not turn it around and step up your game, i am proud of you, and happy your still on our beloved teams squad, next season you’ll get your 1000 yds, if you stay healthy we pray, and a very good chance to get your second ring, good for you, good for us, LETS GO!!!!!

  46. Sumosam Says:

Ro Jo put his head down and went to work. He realized that in the NFL you are going to have to run hard between the tackles and take some hits. He didnt have to do that in college. His transformation has been incredible. What a great asset to the team showing a willingness to succeed.
