Various sources keep saying Super Bowl LV between the Bucs and the Chiefs, live from Tampa, pits the best matchup of quarterbacks in the history of the game.
Now Joe wasn’t going to go there. The best matchup in Super Bowl history? Better than Terry Bradshaw vs. Roger Staubach (twice)? Better than Dan Marino vs. Joe Montana? Better than Tom Brady vs. Russell Wilson? Len Dawson vs. Bart Starr? Better than Ben Roethlisberger vs. Aaron Rodgers? Better than Roethlisberger vs. Kurt Warner? Better than John Elway vs. Montana? Better than Elway vs. Brett Favre?
That’s an awfully steep mountain.
Of course, one can argue without too much effort that Pat Mahomes of the Chiefs is the game’s current best quarterback. Park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady isn’t far behind.
Good matchup? No doubt! Best? Let’s slow down.
But then Joe noticed a graphic from CBS Sports HQ. It seems the Bucs vs. the Chiefs pits the two quarterbacks with the highest winning percentage squaring off on American sport’s biggest stage.
So Joe guesses, yeah, Brady vs. Mahomes may be the best matchup in Super Bowl history. Imagine if those two light up the Tampa night sky on Sunday like the last time the Super Bowl was here, a true shootout between Roethlisberger and Warner.

It is easily the best matchup based on all the past matchups listed in the article. Brady is the undisputed GOAT and Machines is on the pace of becoming the best ever based on his sheer athleticism, stats and ability to win like no one else in the past and ability to win close games. In many ways it is the best pocket passing QB ever (old guard) vs the best scrambling QB to date. This is a historical matchup and we are all lucky that one if the two is representing the Bucs.

True if you’re just looking at winning percentages. But Mahomes percentage is based only on 53 games, whereas Brady’s is based on over 300. The Chiefs’ players, coaches, and overall organization will inevitably change over time. Let’s see where Mahomes stands when he gets closer to 200 games. I could be wrong, but if he’s still over 80% I’d be very surprised.

This is really trivial but it drives me nuts. I despise to hear announcers constantly say this QB is going against that QB. Of course I know what they mean. I’ve NEVER seen Tompa or Mahomeboy playing defense. They will NEVER be face to face. Tom plays their defense and Patrick plays the Bucs defense. I guess it gets better news ratings

I could argue both for and against this being the best quarterback matchup in super bowl history and not be wrong either way since those are some true legends mentioned in the article. Suffice it to say, it’s a freaking awesome matchup and I can’t wait til Sunday!
