Scotty Miller, NFL’s Fastest Man?
January 27th, 2021Joe has a really good programming idea for NFL Network (or perhaps a pay-per-view thing).
NFL Network always got loads of content from the annual scouting combine in the dead of February, a full week’s worth of programming, if not more, and who knows how many stories NFL.com used for months.
That has all evaporated this winter thanks to the COVID.
(This Joe loved the combine but not the TV show. What viewers saw on TV is light years different from the combine Joe experienced each frosty Indiana winter week. Joe never will have any use for a glorified indoor track meet, the TV show. Not only is it Godawful boring, it means nothing for football. As Warren Sapp famously said, “You don’t pump weights on the 50-yard line.” Joe’s invaluable combine experience was getting the chance to talk with all sorts of NFL movers and shakers, as well as prospects.)
However, here is some NFL content Joe has a hunch people will love and just as important, watch. In a soft, gentle way this morning Bucs wide receiver Scotty Miller called out Cheetah Hill of the Chiefs.
Miller owns Joe’s No. 3 all-time Bucs impact play: catching a 39-yard bomb Sunday from park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady in the NFC Championship. Miller appeared on the Dull Patrick Show this morning and claimed he — not Cheetah — is the fastest man in the NFL.
“I have all the confidence in myself,” Miller said, asking if he could outrace Cheetah mano y mano.
Coming out of college, Cheetah ran a 4.29 40-yard dash. Miller? 4.39. Both times are lightning-fast.
So there you have it. In the throes of winter, when there is no combine to broadcast, the NFL should set up a skills challenge with players.
Have both a 40- and a 100-yard dash between Miller and Cheetah. Have an arm strength competition between Josh Allen and Pat Mahomes. Have some kind of linebacker competition between Devin White and Darius Leonard.
Or what might be even better, set up a race with one of White’s horses and Miller — and not the dead horse, either.

I would love to see Evans and Gronk on one side just going deep, dragging linebackers, corners and safeties deep while Miller is dragging across underneath. Hit him in stride and let him fly.
I don’t understand why they need to just send him on a go route every time

Miller… 4.36, Joe. Look it up on NFLdraftscout.com
January 27th, 2021 at 1:13 pm
Don’t they track fastest speeds of the week on runs and routes? would that not answer it for us?
January 27th, 2021 at 1:15 pm
@David they do drag him across the field, but many times that has happened Brady has thrown deep. The most recent example was during the game Sunday Scotty was wide open coming across the middle because they cleared out the zone with deep routes by Chris and Mike. Scotty was wide open on 3rd and long and would have gotten a first down plus more, but for whatever reason Tom threw that 50/50 ball to Chris 52 yards down the field (thankfully it worked).
He’ll get his shot in the SB. Everyone will.

Love the confidence. Scotty runs WITH the Squatch.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:18 pm
Those bombs to Scooter are just a thing of beauty.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:24 pm
Can scooter learn to play shutdown corner in 11 days?
January 27th, 2021 at 1:34 pm
Miller is fast but he’s just as strong as hill.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:35 pm
Would love to see him or anyone take hills title but especially Miller
January 27th, 2021 at 1:40 pm
Scotty Miller > Adam Humpries.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:40 pm
lol. no shot he beats Hill
January 27th, 2021 at 1:45 pm
John Ross ran a 4.22 and had 2 catches for 17 yards, zero TD’s this year. In other words, I’m glad Miller is fast AND a good football player.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:48 pm
Sure, but that’s like saying, DeSean Jackson > Chris Godwin.
Scotty Miller is little more than a home run hitter. Humphries never was a home run hitter and never asked to be a home run hitter and never will be a home run hitter. Not even Lovie Smith was that dumb. Humphries is/was a slot receiver/possession receiver.
If Miller was asked to be a slot receiver and catch passes underneath he’d get broken in half by a linebacker.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:49 pm
Bingo. If you look at the fastest times of combines, most of the fastest players were major league busts.
January 27th, 2021 at 1:50 pm
We could have a moniker naming contest between Joe and all comers from the sports media…..
Two categories……most absurd & most appropriate…..my bet is on Joe to win only one……
January 27th, 2021 at 1:54 pm
How about a jumping out of a pool contest?
January 27th, 2021 at 1:59 pm
Brandon: I’ve seen 4.36 at times too for Miller (others say 4.39). My question is, do players get an “official” time at their pro days, as they do at the Combine (the players invited to the Combine, anyway)? I saw where Damon Arnette ran an “official” 40 time of 4.56 at the Combine, the Raiders said they clocked him at 4.43, quite a difference. I don’t watch enough games or tape to know if Arnette PLAYED like he runs a 4.56 or 4.43.

Love Scotty Miller and really still don’t understand the need to bring in Brown. Every time this speedster gets a chance, he shines. It is what is though for now, and it’s worked well so far.
But Joe, Cheetah has moves to go along with his speed that we’ve yet to see with Scotty because that guy can stop on a dime and make directional changes that sometimes seem to defy gravity.
How about recommending to the Bucs that they add one more coach to the staff to help Scotty, maybe either a dance instructor or even an olympic level gymnastics coach?
January 27th, 2021 at 2:03 pm
Scotty was a great high school track athlete
January 27th, 2021 at 2:14 pm
thats a crazy, brilliant idea @CalBucsFan. would be great if he added some of that stop and start to his game
January 27th, 2021 at 2:44 pm
The contest between Allen and mahomes would be great. Troy aikman is on record saying Josh Allen through the longest pass he’s ever seen during pre-draft workouts.
January 27th, 2021 at 3:10 pm
Cal: isn’t Scott’s fiancé a gymnast? Bet he’s getting a lot of instructions at home. And he may beat Cheetah Hill in a race but can he do a standing back tuck into the end zone? (What you might call a back flip)
January 27th, 2021 at 3:14 pm
Still can’t figure out why he isn’t playing over Mickens?
January 27th, 2021 at 3:40 pm
Let me get this straight
We’re comparing their #1 receiver to our #4(?)?
OK, I get it, speed -vs- speed
I wouldn’t put money down on who wins the foot race
I am kinda expecting Scotty to have a new piece of bling shortly though
In other words, with a ring at the finish line, I think Scotty gets it!
January 27th, 2021 at 4:01 pm
Dean is faster than Miller…
January 27th, 2021 at 4:22 pm
Hey TT, if his fiancé’s a gymnast then he best get back on the mat and keep practicing those splits and flips with her too, eh?
January 27th, 2021 at 5:00 pm
Cal: 😂😂 if you’ve never seen her, Scooter has done quite well for himself. Then again, he is a professional football player.
January 27th, 2021 at 5:01 pm
Get in Hill’s head, Scotty. A distracted Chief is a good Chief.
January 27th, 2021 at 5:12 pm
love the confidence….
make sure you cash in at the SB!!!..you’ll have chances….
GO BUCS!!!!
January 27th, 2021 at 7:44 pm
@CalBucsFan
Reminds me of Robin Williams
“Great dismount, Love the way you point your toes”!
January 27th, 2021 at 9:36 pm
Scottie Miller on the Chiefs with Big Red coaching wold be jus as productive as Hill…. Hill on this team would be #4 behind Brown.. chiefs staff > bucs
January 27th, 2021 at 9:48 pm
No body is comparing #1 against #4 dumbass. He was asked about a race. He has been clocked at 4.28 so yes He believes he is pretty damn fast. He was never asked if he was a better receiver just about a race !
January 27th, 2021 at 9:52 pm
Joe is great. Bucs are great. If no mediation site is a joke.
January 28th, 2021 at 2:17 pm
there was a point in the season scottie was pacing for 1,000 yards…
go figure
