Fear The Wind, Not The Cold

Prisco is a funny sh!tstirrer on Twitter with few equals when it comes to football. His opinions are blunt, outspoken, illuminating, controversial and brash if not outrageous. But never, ever are Prisco’s takes boring.
Recently, after watching Buffalo take down Baltimore in what appeared to be a cyclone of a wind tunnel at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Prisco wrote on Twitter, “Wind destroys football games.”
Joe actually thought that was profound. While it may seem obvious, how many games have we seen where the wind kills teams, forces coaches to rip up gameplans or decides games (a missed field goal for example)?
So today, when asked about playing in the elements of Lambeau Field in late January, Bruce Arians said he is much more concerned about a windy day on Sunday than a cold day.
“Oh, it would definetly be the wind,” Arians said if the wind or cold will affect the Bucs on Sunday. “Wind is a much, much bigger factor.
“I don’t consider [it] cold unless it is signal-digits. It’s not going to affect the game if it is 28 degrees. But the wind really affects the game.”
Additionally, a windy day at 28 feels like a calm day at 10. The wind not only could screw with the game, but players too.
As Joe is typing this midday on Thursday, the current forecast for Green Bay on Sunday calls for 32 degrees with a 71 percent chance of snow, maybe up to an inch. Winds are expected to be 6 mph, per AccuWeather.com.

Wind is supposed to be 5-6 MPH on Sunday at 3PM. A non-factor.

TE Gronk Massachusetts for nearly 10 years
Brate played college in the northeast
Entire OL either played in college or pros in cokd weather areas.
Front 7 Suh, JPP, Barrett, Vea, McClendon, Gholston, David all from cold weather schools or in pros
This team is very experienced in cold weather. They have done it before. Cold weather will not be an excuse.

I was in Soldier Field for NYG vs. “85 Bears for the first round playoff game that year, when Sean Landeta completely whiffed on the punt attempt from the north endzone due to the wind blowing the ball off his foot, and recovered by the Bears for a 4 yard TD.

Folks, this story is a non-story. The snow will end in the morning, many hours before kickoff. The field will be cleared several times over by then. The wind is expected to be in the 4 to 7 MPH range. It will be chilly, but otherwise ideal conditions. Mike Evans is really the only guy I have a concern about in chilly temps. But he is a pro and he’ll find a way.

Of course the forecast changes, but right now all day I show on weather underground it will snow early morning, be done by 9 am, then get cloudy, and at game time, wind at only 4-6 mph, 29 degrees. This is great because any snow can be moved/melted off the field. Yeah, we’ll see air shots of the small cheese eatin’ curd folks town with snow and some will get all freaked out. Good. But Suh, Shaq, JPP, Devn, and Levonte, will all be breathin’ some “smoke” and putting Rodgers on his azz. The O line should wear some green or yellow gloves so their hands blend in well with the GB Defense trying to get accross.

Hey 99.97.92.55.7 (ha, not an IP address) etc, we used to say in the aviation world, “How do you know the weather man is lying? His lips are moving.” it will change by then, but I hope it is just as you say. My info agrees with yours. Go Bucs!

I’ve never understood the argument about the Bucs playing in cold weather. Shouldn’t playing in hot weather be just as bad for the non-Florida teams?

Some of the September home games in Tampa were called H3ll Bowls. It was THAT hot! Plus humid to match. Lambeau Field is heated now. It still will be cold and wet. The best team will win. and I hope it’s the Bucs! 🙂

I remember as a kid watching the ice bowl, GB, Dallas. That was before they had heating elements in the field to keep it from freezing. Hence the name frozen tundra. B.A. is right, it could be minus 0 with wind. The weather won’t be a factor.

Warm-blooded Florida boy through and through, but I can tell you, I’ve felt colder at 40 with a wind than at 32 with no wind.
