Devin White: “It Don’t Feel Like A Championship”
January 21st, 2021Cool conversation when three NFL players get together. And the highlight was Bucs inside linebacker Devin White.
The second-year Bucs defender hopped on the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast co-hosted by Titans players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan. The duo talked all things playoffs and Bucs with White.
While talking about the NFC Championship game, White said the vibe is nothing really special.
“It don’t feel like a championship, you know, like a Super Bowl,” White said, noting a championship is the final game of the season. “I want to win a Super Bowl and an NFC Championship comes along with that.”
White said he is ready for a cold-weather game. Despite being from Louisiana, White said he played at Arkansas once when the temperatures were in the 20s, just like the weather forecast currently for Green Bay on Sunday.
When Lewan asked White if he’s going to wear long sleeves, White erupted, “Hell, no!”
White made no secret that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady has made a big impact on both him and the Bucs.
“It’s been phenomenal,” White said of having Brady as a teammate. “Everybody loves Tom Brady. I was a bandwagon fan [of sports growing up], I wanted to go to the winning team so I supported Tom Brady.
“In the locker room, on and off the field he is a phenomenal guy. Biggest thing is his leadership. He gets guys to buy in. Not everyone can do that. And he did this in like three months.
“He has guys around him from the o-line to the running backs to the receivers bought in. One thing you know playing with a guy like Tom Brady, there is only one expectation. And that’s winning.”
White was asked about the team flipping from Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. White suggested Jameis may have been too good of a quarterback for his own good.
White noted that Jameis was so good athletically and smart that “it hurt him” because Jameis seemed to think he could get out of jams on his own. Brady, on the other hand, is poised and knows what he can and can’t get away with, White said.
Compton and Lewan needled White about ending Drew Brees’ career (it was actually Mike Edwards). White said he grew up a Saints fan and knows full well how much Brees has done for the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. So he felt weird beating Brees in his last NFL game.
“But I got a family to feed just like he does,” White said.
White added the way the slimy Saints celebrated after the 38-3 win over the Bucs, and how they ran so much smack on social media right after the game, was very much on the Bucs’ minds as they prepared to play New Orleans last week.
As for this Sunday, White thinks playing against Rodgers and practicing against Brady has him ready for another showdown with Rodgers. White said Rodgers and Brady are very similar quarterbacks because they are very smart.
“The difference with [Rodgers] and Tom is [Rodgers] will move, especially in the red zone,” White said. “But nothing scares me about him. I know how I need to tackle him.”
White noted one reason he was so fired up when the Bucs played the Packers earlier this season was Packers running back Aaron Jones was having a strong year and White took that as a personal challenge.
White said of facing Jones, “You are not going to put me on your highlight tape.”
Compton and Lewan both told White they are rooting for the Bucs. Compton said he badly wants to see a pair of former Cornhuskers teammates, Lavonte David and Ndamukong Suh, play in the Super Bowl.
So does Joe.
Oh my god.
Days before the title game, DEVIN WHITE WIELDS THE SCEPTER!!!

Great read!
I love the confidence. It’s solid know-who-we-are-and-what-we-can-do, and not arrogant chest puffery.
White is becoming an infectious personality like Mr. Derrick Brooks developed in his post-rookie years.

You can tell the intact Brady has had on the whole team.

They need to lay Rodger out! I’ll take the penalty if it’s not on our side of the field. Lay him out!

I think what stands out to me the last few weeks is particularly what impact #12 has had on the O-line. The reduction in penalties, the way Donny Smith has finally been CONSISTENTLY playing up to his potential, the way they are hungry to road grade on those running plays, I think it all springs from the standard set by Brady.

Look I’m going tbh here if the Bucs can hit Rodgers they don’t need to sack him just hit him in the last game they were hitting the crap out of him something I didn’t see with the Rams also I keep hearing how they beat the no 1 defense omg look Donald was hurt if u look at that game he was 100% and Rodgers didn’t get really hot until the Rams o was not doing a thing who was also not at 100 % so yea what I’m saying is they beat a bang up Rams team now the face a team the healthy and clicking at the right time

Other players may practice leadership; Brady defines it. (Where have I heard that before?)

“You ain’t putting me on your highlight tape” what an amazing mind set

Anyone that doesn’t think TB12 will have this team ready for this game needs forget about football and become a fan of synchronized swimming.

“LEADERSHIP” … That comes from LEADERS
January 21st, 2021 at 12:05 pm
Across from arrogant in the dictionary are 2 words: Aaron Rogers. After a TD pass ever see him pull out his revolvers and blow the smoke away from the end of the barrels. this season did you see his exotic sex dance in the end zone? He thinks the cold weather and snow are going to beat the Bucs. Suh gets in his head. Suh is his kryptonite.

Licht is obviously modeling his defense after the 2001 Ravens.
Ngata – Vea
Lewis – White
Reed – Winfield
1. The trick is you need guys of similar caliber. Licht nailed it with those three.
2. His strategy gives us a glimpse into the 2021 draft. Expect a big DE, like Carlos Basham (Suggs).
January 21st, 2021 at 12:30 pm
The whole team needs to have his mindset to leave anything to be put on a highlight reel like the Lions game without any punt return tds!
January 21st, 2021 at 12:30 pm
NOT to leave

Brady’s leadership has affected every single player on the roster….practice squad, coaches, trainers, office staff, owners ……Ray Jay vendors are ready for another dose….hell even the parking attendants are feeling it.

I’m pumped!!! Todd Bowles is going to UNLEASH THE BEAST come Sunday… Packer fans you don’t even know!!!!!!
GO BUCS!!!!!

Patriot Place, Kraft’s mega mall, was built on the back of TB-12. The Patriots are worth Billions. Kraft bought the team for 130 mill about 25 years ago. The owners of the Bucs out Einsteined coach bill and krafty. Tampa, St. Pete will see economic benefit for years to come. Good Times. Go Bucs.

In watching Ronde’s breakdown of the Bucs – Eagles NFC Championship, I found it interesting that the team originally was going to try and play without long sleeves.

Terrible comparison. Ravens ran Marvin Lewis's 4-3 which Mike Smith ran here in Tampa and Bowles is mostly 3-4. The Ravens barely blitzed and Bowles will call a blitz getting off the bus. You couldn't have been further off.

I don’t want to hear any comparisons between 45 and that overrated dog barking clown that played in Baltimore. If 45 gets away with shooting a guy outside a nightclub – allegedly – and goes on to be media darling for his dance routine, sure, we can start to compare them.
I think Devin White will do just fine to be Devin White.

Brandon says the Ravens did run 34 defense wat Ravens u was watching???
January 21st, 2021 at 6:35 pm
Ravens ran a 3-4 defense what are you talking about what Baltimore Ravens were you watching
January 21st, 2021 at 8:43 pm
Devin White is a freaking guided missile blowing up everything and wreaking havoc on QB’s, runners and receivers alike! Turn him loose, and watch him go!
January 22nd, 2021 at 9:09 am
@ 2gz_like_Gucci I may don’t agree with him but the Bucs run a 3-4
