The 24-Minute Shutout
January 18th, 2021Joe just enjoyed an ice cold Bromosa from Big Storm (a quality breakfast beer) and re-watched our beloved Buccaneers lockdown of the Saints yesterday for the second time.
Perhaps the most fun dynamic of the game was the Bucs’ 17-0 shutout of the Saints over the game’s final 24-plus minutes of play.
What a work of art it was — on the road.
After New Orelans was precise and hot on offense in the opening drive after halftime, they never scored again after grabbing a 20-13 lead. The Bucs outmuscled the life out of them.
It was a defensive work of art. Yeah, there were a couple of bad and senseless third-down penalties from Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting, but outside of that were so many standout individual efforts. And dare Joe say the Bucs had more gas in their tanks than the Saints — in New Orleans.
Joe also loved the tough and effective play by Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones, complemented by punishing run blocking from Donovan Smith and Ryan Jensen. And that Tyler Johnson sideline catch on 3rd-and-11 in the fourth quarter was a massive play in the game, and the best catch of the game. Scotty Miller again proved his ability to be ready without much work; his lone target, a fourth-quarter bomb, was the longest Bucs play of the day.
On savior linebacker Devin White’s big interception, how about just enough inside pressure from veteran defensive tackle Will Gholston to affect Drew Brees’ throw! It’s worth noting that on that biggest defensive play of the season, it was backup linebackers Cam Gill and Anthony Nelson rushing the passer with Gholston and Ndamukong Suh inside.
That’s team defense.

The Tyler Johnson catch was surreal. And timely. Cheers!

Where is lamarcus …the gladiator. 😂
He literally said brady was garbage
He even said jameis a HOF
He admitted he likes a qb who throws for yards and doesnt care about turnovers (and apparently wins)
Lamarcus looks horrible

GREAT TEAM WIN BY THE COACHES AND PLAYERS
except for the punt unit…get it together ST
GO BUCS

813 – Agree. Punt unit was awful. Lucky that one return didn’t go all the way.

Bird….where’s Lamarcus, Bucs(weenie armed Brady)Anthem, Ndog and Realist?
January 18th, 2021 at 10:53 am
@Bird: Brady was being suffocated out of NE, by arrogant coach more interested in competing with TB12, than collaborating with him. And in the process, Brady was not surrounded with great offensive players. Note: Belichick’s dream is to win with just special teams and defense.
How many great arms have failed in the NFL? And the guys that run all over- outside the pocket -are oft a hit or two from a shortened career. Lots more to it than just throwing the ball. Bottom line: who wins? Hey, there are guys that can hit a baseball 450, but can’t hit the curve. There are hockey players with a great shot who never get into position to score. And there are guys who can drill a basketball, but cannot do it against NBA defenses. Brady is a winner. And he’s a team guy.

Is it me or does Scotty Miller look like Gronk’s kid brother…at least facially?
January 18th, 2021 at 10:54 am
Besides Suh, I don’t really think you can say too much about the lines play last night. Couldn’t get to the QB except for 3 rushed throws and let the Saints run for big pick ups…. Those 2 ends in Tampa are playing themselves out of a paycheck. The back 7 carried the D last night and was nice to finally see. I wasn’t even too worried about the holding calls and PI picked up in the second half. All that meant was they weren’t playing the “Smith” defense.
January 18th, 2021 at 10:56 am
Hey Joe, can we get some praise for Stinnie up here? And probably JL too for next man up
Our dbs are all hurt. Dean smb cd3. Next man up!
January 18th, 2021 at 10:57 am
My daughter came in the door from work right after the Saints took a 20-13 lead. needless to say she will be calling in sick next Sunday.
January 18th, 2021 at 10:58 am
I knew when our Defense held them to two field goals early in the game that they would have a strong showing…..
Where oh where are all the useless trolls who constantly denigrate everything Bucs……..maybe you’ve gone over to “SeanSaintsFan”
January 18th, 2021 at 11:08 am
Anybody hear from “those who shall not be named”? You know them, the trolls that only come out after a loss screaming, “you know nothing about football, Brady’s too old, should’ve kept Mr Pick-6, Coach Stale Toast, you’ll see, I’m never wrong about football”. You know, those guys.

Thats right. It was weenie arm or noodle arm from anthem. These guys are in hiding . They are upset. They Hate winners so they hate brady 😂
And bucs going into the frozen tundra of lambeau field
Its tough to win there in december and january but lets see what happens
Unbelievable how great out defense played for a change
I think we can get both offense and defense to ball out there. Green bay defense is not that dominant. Worst we will face in playoffs
Can we make it 3 road wins?
Go bucs!

The D awoke from their 8 week slumber at the perfect time. What a thrilling performance by all. The ‘Aints had no respect for us—they do now.
January 18th, 2021 at 11:15 am
It’s a good thing and a bad thing the trolls are gone. The good thing is that we as real Bucs fans can critic our team both good and bad without some troll trying to dominate the conversation with total ignorance and hate for our home team. The bad thing is that they ran away instead of taking their deserved medicine and ass kicking for being what we all knew they truly were the entire time, TROLLS!!!
January 18th, 2021 at 11:16 am
Let’s give Jensen a game ball too! Guy was beating the heck out of em until the whistle every play. Maybe even after! Team effort! Beautiful thing. Winfield and Tyler made some huuuuge timely plays. Go Bucs
January 18th, 2021 at 11:22 am
Darin, it was great seeing Jensen hammer on that long haired blond wanna be Fabio all night wasn’t it? I even saw Marpet do his best Jensen impersonation hammering a Saints player off our running backs at the end of a run. Keep playing through the whistle o line and help your backs get those extra 1-2 yards…. it really adds up
January 18th, 2021 at 11:31 am
Loved it. Bullied the bully.
January 18th, 2021 at 11:39 am
My predicted score of 31 – 20 Bucs almost worked out. Check the record on the game day thread. I was not sweating when the Saints got 20, I expected that just how it happened.
January 18th, 2021 at 11:41 am
I will just like to say what a great team win. The saints play dirty and it great to see them getting out taken down a notch and beaten up. They do have a strong defense, but we cracked the code by running the ball so well. The O line won the battle for the first time this season against the Saints. Sad to see Brees going out on a bad note. He just looked a bit faded last night.
January 18th, 2021 at 11:42 am
I swear if scotty miler got more playing time the dudeis awesome! Tyler jihnson as well. If they lose any wrs in free agency it wont be hard to fill the shoes
January 18th, 2021 at 11:50 am
Great team win. No turnovers.
January 18th, 2021 at 11:53 am
Speaking of penalties it was another one sided game. We got called for defensive holding when it was hands to the face as clear as day on the Saints. That was one of many including the bs holding call on Rojo’s explosive run. The refs tried to give it to the Saints and failed miserably. Saints DBs grab, hold and hang on receiver’s backs and never get called. I wonder if the refs have to pay back their bribe money since the Saints lost. All refs suck!!!
January 18th, 2021 at 12:49 pm
Its apparent that Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller have very good receiving skills and they will contribute abundantly on the Bucs Teams for many years to come…

Ha ha….. I said the same thing during the game thread yesterday.
Looks like a mini-me Gronk!

BigMac –
The Bucs had to beat the Saints AND the Refs to advance. So typical. I’m almost numb to it after all these decades.
The 24 minute shutout – was a thing of beauty. But I’ve not heard much mention of how well the Defense played in the 1st Quarter – when the Saints offense was working and the Bucs’ wasn’t – and the Aint’s drove into the Red Zone – Twice – yet only came away with 6 points.
Being down only 6 – instead of 14 early – was a big key to coming away with the WIN.
Winfield’s Forced Fumble though was really the turning point in the game. Because the Saints were up 7 – and driving in the 3rd Q. Winfield forced the fumble – White picked it up and ran – offense scored a TD to tie the game – and the Bucs never looked back from there.
So major kudos to the rookie DB who sure as hell hasn’t played like a rookie.

@Pickgrin 100% about the defense in the beginning.
Offense kept going 3-and-out and special teams was abysmal. Defense kept us in the game and was really the engine that drove the win.

You’re absolutely right about Jensen!!! Man he got in all their heads!! That dude is just incredible his passion for the position he played!! And my biggest worry going into the game was Stinnie.. what a game played by him!! Unbelievable game by him for the situation he was in…. But in my opinion the MVP of the offense was Ryan Jensen!! He got into that blonde girls head all night!! What’s her name? Kendricks? .. yeah I think that’s it…. She was reeeeally upset all game and couldn’t even function because Jensen was going through her purse all game!!!
