Numbers Proof That Bucs Are Better

January 15th, 2021

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

Joe has written about this already this morning but here is more proof.

Park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady has said it.

Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians has said it.

Saints coach Sean Payton has said it.

The Bucs are a different team. Yeah, sure, our owns eyes see it in the offense. We can see better blocking. We can see the receivers open.

Now, Jenna Laine of ESPN brings numbers to the table. Good strong research.

Remember the awful loss to the Bears on Thursday Night Football? That just happened to be the only winning team the Bears beat this season.

The Bucs played terribly, and to a lesser degree were coached terribly. With Ronald Jones running strong and moving the ball, the Bucs took the ball out of his hands and went pass happy and lost.

It was the same game Brady forgot how to count to four.

The Bucs made a boatload of penalties. We even saw Brady unload on players for those penalties. Laine writes Arians raised hell with the team afterwards.

So what happened? Since that game, the Bucs have committed the fewest penalties in the NFL, per Laine.

The Bucs’ penalties in 2019: 133 (the most in the NFL). The Bucs’ penalties in 2020: 84 (11th fewest in the NFL). The thing is, the Bucs were leading the NFL in penalties in Weeks 1-5 (42). Then they got an earful from Tom Brady and Bruce Arians. In Weeks 6-17, they had 42 penalties, the FEWEST in the NFL.

One thing Joe noticed at least earlier in the year, if the Bucs were doing something wrong, it often got corrected. This is another area where the Bucs improved.

How refreshing is it that finally, this franchise has found a way to see to it that young players (and vets) are developing before our eyes and that team wrongs are often righted.

I’ve said this many times, you cant preach accountability and expect it to hit home while you let the “franchise QB” play with unlimited turnovers, ZERO competition and no criticism. Brady sets a really high bar for himself and still wants to be pushed….that translates to other players raising their standards. that just wasnt the case with Winston…..vets respect results, not hype or potential or rah rah speeches. In the NFL you have to deliver, Brady delivers….Winston was a circus on and off the field.

Bowles better have a stellar gameplan this week and come out of that soft zone mess he did last game against the Saints. I’d like to see the man coverage, blitzing packages he’s done most of the time. This time make Winfield a staple on defense keying on Kamara on run and pass options. Man Jamel Dean over their TE who seems to kill us and stay in a 5 man front doing so the majority of the game because they libe off of Kamara running and play-action. Bowles needs to keep pressure, stop the running attack and force turnovers. Just get to Brees by any means. Blitz Devin White all game!! Sacks and turnovers will happen!

Sorry Joe. I need to read better. No reason to publicly shame me. I shame myself.

  5. Defense Rules Says:

I’m assuming Joe that you’re saying Bucs are better from a penalties perspective. On the season that’s somewhat true (not a huge difference), but in the 2 games we played against the Saints this year, the Bucs committed MORE penalties in each game than the Saints did. The good news for us IMO is that we improved dramatically in that area as the season went on.

    4 KEYS ON OFFENSE
    1. Max Protect -Give Tom time to throw. He will
    carve them up.
    2. Gronk and Fournette help at tackles and release
    into flat.
    3. Unleash AB – Saints will have best defenders
    on Evans and Godwin.
    4. Mix run and pass – Keep them on their heels.

    3 KEYS ON DEFENSE
    1. Man coverage please. Engage wr’s at line
    to throw off timing routes.
    2. Have David and Devin split time shadowing
    Kamara while free man blitzes.
    3. Allow no uncovered receiver in the flat.

    Defensive Summation

Brees is allergic to pressure. He gets ball off in
less than 2 seconds to stymie that. He also doesn’t
Have the arm strength to go deep. If we apply
tight coverage within 15-20 yards with a safety
beyond that, it will throw him off his game
and allow pocket pressure to develop.

“The Bucs secondary was the worst ive seen

Brandon Jeff, are you one of BA’s 2000 coaches, or a retired HS football player ?

  9. D1 Says:

I’m surprised Chef Mark of Big Storm Brewery doesn’t have a Cajun Ribs special for the game.

Served cracked and broken with a salty brine wash and no back bone, with a little Cajun seasoning.

If Brees gets carted off the field after a devastating hit from White……free ribs for the rest of the game.

    Troll Faker,
It was also the best NFL secondary Washington QB Taylor Heinicke has ever played against

Hello buxszntkt, No LOL! Never played or coached
    organized football.
At 62 and having been a Bucs fan since they started,
I’ve been pretty frustrated. Apparently, it’s a lot easier
to see what they are doing wrong from the tv than
From the sidelines,as most posters here would attest.

I read all the articles and posts but rarely get a chance
To add my 2 cents worth. There is always a lot of
good content on here. I just wish the coaches
    would read it.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Tyler Johnson was the teams best WR against the Bears, literally everyone else was out or injured. That’s why the Bucs lost that game, and it’s also why the play calling was so stupid. But that game did give us AB, so in that regard, things turned out well since he’s made a big difference in the offense – not so much in him as a talent, but in that they finally changed things up a bit to get him the ball on short passes. You still need a bunch of deep balls, but screens and underneath passes will help keep the pressure off Brady against the Saints.

    Sooner or later
People and teams get tired of BAs act
Arizona future is finally looking up and they sure dont miss the BA/BL twins whatsoever
There will be a offseason power struggle after our 8-8 season

There are recievers that click instantly and those that are utterly fails
MEME is a 1 trick pony with only the go route
MEME will be not only be useless but harmful when corners jump the sloppy comeback routes
