7-Man Protection On Both Touchdown Passes

There’s a reason many fans scream for our beloved Buccaneeers to use their play-action game with legendary Tom Brady.
Brady tossed two touchdown passes on Saturday night in the Bucs’ too-close, 31-23 win in Washington. On both — to Antonio Brown and to Chris Godwin — Brady went play-action and enjoyed a seven-man, max-protection kind of setup.
Above is a film shot of Rob Gronkowski taking on the right edge with Donovan Smith making Chase Young look like Stylez White of 2011 on the left edge. Leonard Fournette is in front of Brady and behind four offensive linemen. Brady steps into his throw on the right side and it’s touchdown Brown.
Former NFL Brady Quinn went on a rant about the Bucs and seven-man protections on SiriusXM NFL Radio last week, and how they play to the Bucs’ strengths.
Joe heartily agrees.
Former Colts Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday was on ESPN TV after the Bucs’ win marveling at how well their offensive line held up and how the Bucs’ play-action game was a work of art. And Joe will throw in how the Bucs got their screen game working beautifully at times, as well.
In all, Saturday was a great tune-up to face the Saints’ ferocious defensive line.

The one play I remember distinctly is BL trotting out 46 WRs…….empty backfield……Sack!!!
We should never use an empty backfield unless it’s 3rd & 20……
You can’t play-action with an empty backfield.
I also can’t get over how very, very good Leonard Fournette was Saturday……running, catching, protection…….outstanding…..a big part of our success.

Larson may be much better after a week of practice/preparation.

Any idea of how we stop Brees n this offense with JDean n SMB playing 10 yds off the line? Or, just any idea at all.

can’t see the sticks, but this looks like the CG over the middle for a TD. If they have more DB’s in I am sure TB would audible to the RB for a nice gain. pick your poison, but about darn time the started this. Keep it up!

Crazy how an effective running game helps the passing game. Not lining up in 5 wide every snap.

Lining up with no RB is a tribute to how well the oline was doing, the owner them. The sa is weren’t totally Larsons fault Jenson blocked left and left.him hanging. I think they will be fine with practice. Brady’s uncanny ability to protect the ball and avoid the big hits is huge. If he goes down BA would have to reach out to Rivera for his back up. I have watched Brady for his entire career and don’t remember him playing with such poise and most of all accuracy. Godwin’s worst game and they still romp. Godwin drop in end zone, perfect pass to Bate drop in end zone and Gronk needs size.9 shoes so he can keep his feet in. Should of been 14 more points.
