Byron Leftwich Punts On Marshall Question

Laughs at college rumor.
Earlier this week, the Adam Schefter of college football, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, noted the “dream” candidate to fill the vacancy of Marshall football’s head coach opening would be one of its best-known alumni.
That’s Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.
Feldman’s Marshall contacts, however, told him from what Marshall officials are hearing, NFL teams are sniffing around Leftwich as a possible NFL head coaching candidate and that Leftwich is unlikely to accept a college gig. But that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t take a swing and maybe connect with Leftwich.
Today, Leftwich was point-blanked asked if the Marshall opening would be a “job you would entertain?”
Leftwich laughed and really gave no answer. So that’s not exactly what Joe would call a denial.
“(Laughs) I’m worried about this [Washington] game,” Leftwich said when his laughs subsided. I don’t even know how to answer that question.
“I just heard about [Feldman’s report] myself too, though. I will just say that. This [is the] time of year where all of these things tend to happen. And we’re worried about this football game Saturday night.”
Does that seem like a denial to you?
This is what happens when your team makes the playoffs. Other teams come to poach assistants and suits.
Just late last night, the creator, curator and overall guru of Pro Football Talk, the great Mike Florio, reported that Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is interviewing next week for the opening in Atlanta.
If Bucco Bruce Arians isn’t careful, he may have to find two new coordinators in a few weeks.

I know we don’t know what’s in the future but has Bruce say that’s his goal form them? And that they have people in house who would step up in their place?

Would he rather be the head coach of the Marshall Thundering Heard, or the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? 🤔
Seems like an easy answer to me…

Think he would be doing a ton more work with Marshall than he does under this regime in Tampa; dont think this is a move that he is seriously thinking of doing

Joe wrote about this earlier today. Given Leftwich’s non-denial and Bowles setting up an interview, it seems Arians and the Bucs do not have any succession plan in place.
Unless the successor to Arians isn’t Bowles or Leftwich.

Im less worried about Leftwich leaving as BA can call plays and supposedly thats what he’s (BA) has been grooming him (BL) for, than I am Todd Bowels leaving. Bowels has turned our defense from bottom of the league to top 10. Part of that is talent but Im not sure I want to trust our talent on learning a new scheme now that they have settled in.

No way do I want BL as head coach. I wouldn’t mind Bowles. The Jets job was like a fireman forced to work in a dumpster fire.

Leftwich, left on his own, is going to be a Mike Shula 1999 ultraconservative type — just wait and see. Right now he’s running Arians offense, but he’s made it clear he believes you just run it up the gut, that’s how you win on offense.
He’s wrong of course, and I think he’s going to bomb at the NFL level when he gets a chance to be a head coach – but win the SB and then he can go wherever he wants in peace.

At this point why would anyone stick around? Arians is going to ride the Brady thing out and once he is gone back to same o, same o. Bronk & AB won’t stay and Godwin may already be gone. Win NOW and savor in it. After next year may be another 13 yrs before another winning season.
