Too Many Weapons

January 6th, 2021

So many weapons.

If anyone not with the Bucs or the Belicheats knows park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady, it’s a guy who was part of the same front office that drafted him.

And that would be former Patriots and Chiefs general manager and former Dixie Chicks executive Scott Pioli.

The long-time disciple of Bill Belicheat has been making weekly appearances on NFL Network the past few months to share some wisdom and insight into the game.

Pioli was asked Tuesday if the ferocious pass rush of the Redskins is strong enough to create problems for Brady. Oh yes, Pioli said, it is. However, this is where the chess match of football begins.

Pioli said that by their actions and their words, both Brady and Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians know that Washington will bring the heat on Brady, big time.

The trick is, Pioli noted, is that Brady has a sick stable of targets to use. Pioli noted that Brady has “a limited ego” meaning he is more than happy to pick apart a defense with short and intermediate passes if the Redskins defense is coming after him.

“One of the interesting things about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year though, is the fact they have 10 players that have at least 15 receptions,” Pioli said. “They have eight players with at least 20 receptions. So Brady knows he can spread the ball around. There are a lot of different targets.”

Want to keep Gronk in max protect? Cool, Pioli said, then the Redskins have to deal with Cam Brate. Short passes and medium-length passes, Brady has scores of receivers to throw to.

So, Pioli asked without asking, do the Redskins have enough defenders to checkmate so many weapons Brady has in his holster?

You can see Pioli’s full take on the Bucs-Redskins game in the NFL Network video below. Bucs chatter begins at the 2:26 mark.

He’s going to need them if this defense can’t get itself off the field on 3rd and 4th down.

  2. D-Rome Says:

I read a statistic today that Tom Brady threw 1,233 deep passing yards this season which is the most he’s had in a season. Saw that on PFF.

Meanwhile, I’m still wondering where NDog and TMax went.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Always the contrarian. Joe refuses to give up the old Washington moniker despite knowing it’s offensive to some. Nevertheless, I’m addicted to the website. Always good material and great writing (although an editor would be nice).

Regarding the subject at hand, I agree that the use of screens, quick slants, and check downs to RBs will be used heavily this Saturday. Too much firepower for the WFT to overcome.

  4. TB12 In Da Bay Says:

40 TD passing at age 43, Highest Bucs scoring offense ever QB, Super Model Marrying, Making the Bucs relevant again Bucs QB Tom Brady, sounds much better than the silliness the Clueless Joe writes daily.

After this weekend I will add Playoff winning to the intro

  5. Robert Says:

more important is can we protect him. that IS the x factor

  6. miken Says:

Going to have to spread it around. The skins D is very good. Only giving up 20 points one time since October 1st

  7. Casual Observer Says:

    In the GOAT I trust.

  8. Listnfrmafar Says:

What is the worst scenario you keep a Rb or 2 in and Gronk? Now go stopEvan’s, AB, Godwin and Brate or Miller. Good luck Rivera it ain’t gonna happen. The only way they lose is if they don’t take Wash seriously and or barring (heaven forbid) Beady injury. How great would it be if NO & Seahawks lose?

  9. 813bucboi Says:

not worried about the offense….BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!!

bowles and the defense cant let alex smith and the WFT look like pat mahomes…

    GO BUCS!!!!

This Washington defense everyone is hyping has given up 20 or more points (30+ 3 times) to almost every playoff team they faced during the regular season. The only exception was they beat the anemic and struggling Steelers who had just played 3 games in 12 days.

Not only that their offense is the 30th ranked offense in the league, and Alex Smith is still recovering from his calf strain so they may have to used Taylor Heinecke who was studying for engineering exams at Old Dominion in November. The Bucs have every opportunity to win this game.

  11. Alanbucsfan Says:

Washington has given up over 1800 yards rushing this year.
Get RoJo going early, and Bucs offense will have a field day.

Everything is offensive to someone. You are offended Joe won’t use the generic non nickname nickname. Therefore Joe shouldn’t use that.

    Joe:

If you really want to offend people just let them know there are only two genders.

  14. Lou. Says:

    @Joe —

Perhaps fewer people would be offended and the League would be happier if you just abbreviated the moniker to the Washington Team for Football? You know. the WTFs?

I’m sure the announcers, networks and advertisers will be all over that.

  15. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I’m still wondering where NDog and TMax went as well.

  16. gotbbucs Says:

    Washington’s defense is legit.

I don’t like this matchup at all, everything that Washington does well matches up with what the Bucs do poorly.

Our offense has looked good for three weeks against the worst defenses in the NFL, by far. Atlanta and Detroit are a joke.
We won’t move the ball easily against this team and if we don’t get a pass rush and keep their pass catching running backs under control our defense will be in trouble.
Our running game needs to be on point and our receivers will have to win their one on ones. Washington will score points against our defense, especially if Devin White doesn’t play.

  17. idiaznet Says:

I have watched this “Fearsome” pass rush of Washington through 4 games. I am not impressed. They have had very difficult times against real OLs in games. Trent Williams shut down Chase Young. The only time he did anything was against scrubs or when we wasn’t blocked on RPO’s or severly delayed blitzes. Same with Montez Sweat.
This is not that great of a line. This is not a good a line as the Saints line RAMs or Chiefs. They got stats by playing the Cowboys twice and Eagles twice. Both have beat up lines and replacements. I think Brady and our Offense will run circles around this team. Linebackers are slow and back end has no communications. Eagles would have won the game if they kept Hurst in.
But, hey the media needs to talk about something right??

  19. UKBuccaneer Says:

Hey Joe, every time you refer to the Washington football team by their old name, you just look like a contrarian fool. Not a great look for a serious football writer.

  20. Joe in Michigan Says:

Uh, it is Joe’s website, not yours. So, in closing, he can write what he wants.

  21. bkBucsFan Says:

This is the “hot take” blog, that’s why we’re all here reading. Don’t be “offended” when sometimes those hot takes aren’t the same as yours.

  22. Mitch Says:

Thinking Redskin is offensive to Native Americans is like thinking Buccaneer is offensive to Pirates.

The progressive left is killing our society through identity politics and for the sake of their own power. They literally are changing the definition of words for their benefit.

I implore you to read up on the history of Redskin and you’ll find that Native Americans created the term and there’s nothing offensive about it.

  23. NoBody Says:

Ndogg is currently in NO and the only person in the country that owns a saints Jaboo jersey

  24. Beeej Says:

Redskins is offensive to dudes with man-buns and Birkenstocks

  25. 813bucboi Says:

if some folks thinks its offensive then drop the name…period…

nothing like good ole white America telling folks what is and aint offensive….lol…

    grow up Joe…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  26. buc15 Says:

Well TMAX & Realist are the same person so we killed 2 birds with 1 stone. As far as NDOG, I’m fairly certain he tried to jump off the Skyway this past week.

  27. buc15 Says:

btw NDOG is also Clean House

  28. NOLES Says:

NDOG & TMax r holding a clip board in New Orleans behind a WR.. I mean QB

  29. UKBuccaneer Says:

It’s not about what is or isn’t offensive, it’s about the name of the football team. Which is the Washington Football Team.

If people want to pretend it’s not, for whatever reason, then knock yourself out.

  30. William Berry Says:

I have native heritage, and I love the Redskins name (and I know I’m not alone, either).
