Chris Godwin Proved It, Earned A Giant Contract

Anyone paying attention with a few ounces of football knowledge knows Chris Godwin is truly an elite receiver worthy of the giant payday coming his way within a few short months.
Yesterday was just the exclamation point on a hell of a statement to the NFL.
Despite a significant early-season concussion followed by a broken finger that needed surgery (double-digit pins inserted), Godwin managed to gut through his issues and start 12 games and block like a savvy and ferocious beast. Oh yeah, and he had 65 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns.
That’s a ton of production on a team loaded with weapons from a guy playing with half a hand.
Diving catches, contested catches, yards after catch and extraordinary efficiency, Godwin does it all routinely, and he’s ending on a hell of a run to the playoffs. He caught a whopping 78 percent of the balls thrown in direction this season, and had five catches for an eye-popping 133 yards yesterday with two touchdowns.
No fan should blink when Jason Licht’s 2017 third-round pick asks for Keenan Allen/Amari Cooper money, aka $20 million per year.
Rondé Barber is the greatest third-round pick in Buccaneers history. The Bucs’ 24-year-old receiver beast might be No. 2.

Godwin is a beast and certainly deserving of a big extension! Scary as it is to think, he’s so young, his best ball might still be in front of him!
Joe, Is there a way we can reward CG14 and keep AB too next year? They both deserve raises and make a dynamic duo.

I want to see AB lite up the playoffs. When we loose him iin free agency we will get a nice comp pick.

I know the bucs cannot afford AB but if the bucs make a deep run and AB “grows up” a little he may do a 1 year deal to stay around with TAHMMY for another year. But AB and Godwin were big time yesterday in HOFer ME13’s absence

Godwin is a top 10 receiver in the NFL and his contract should be in that average. He deserves to be paid based on what other receivers that have similar numbers get. He isn’t top 5 yet but certainly top 10 with more upside due to his age.
His hands are elite and his physicality is also elite amongst WR’s in the league. Good speed but he’s not the guy that takes the top off. If the Bucs didn’t have Evans I could see him catching 100 balls a year.
Like Evans his durabilty has been a factor. Hopefully he’ll learn to avoid some of the contact that can get him hurt. Love the fight in him but sometimes its not worth it to take unneccessary hits when you are catching the ball in the middle of the field. That was a great catch he made in the end zone yesterday.

Brady might have to take a pay cut (or D. Smith) to keep them all. If D. Smith balls out in the playoffs you can’t let him go

Love Godwin! However, teams like Jets or Giants will be desperate for FA offensive weapons – Bucs must manage cap and prioritize Team needs.

Bucs can franchise Godwin and strike a long term deal with Shaq for less money per year…
I advocated doing Godwin’s contract this year…..saving us money in the process….but Joe and others claimed…..”we have Godwin under contract….why worry with it?”

That man can catch anything. Like many other Bucs players underrated in league. Brady knows where his bread is buttered and without Godwin he doesn’t get 43 total TD’s at 43 yrs old. If he has to give up some $$$ to help keep his cast of studs together he will as long as that’s where the money goes unlike the Pat’s that screwed him. No chance at keeping Brown he is a 1.5 receiver on any team, he’s just warming up.

But godwin may have more upside as crazy as it sounds
Listen brady is coming back for another. If they can get a free agent db that can actually cover and draft 2 dlineman and 1 olineman they have a good chance next year. Unfortunately, this year the defense is just to awful to really make a run.

CG is a tru professional on and off the field. Hope we can keep him. I gotta admit AB is almost to good to let go. Got some big decisions at the end of the year. Don’t wanna be in JLs shoes lol let’s go Bucs

I thought I might jinx him when I bought his jersey this year, but no way. He’d easily have had a 1,000 yard season if the concussion and hand injury had not occurred. Give him his money! He needs to stay with this team.

Licht has some tough decisions to make this off-season…If Godwin’s reps come seeking $20M/yr, that may just price CG out of Tampa.

Ungodly CG14 fell to the third round? I don’t watch the draft. Geez, Licht and Koetter must have almost stroked out 3 years ago. Godwin is freakish. He plays like a blocking TE. Problem is he has a WR physique. He is a class act on and off the field. He will be a Buc next year along with LVD. Two of my very favorite players, and both class acts. Go Bucs!

With our first playoff game in over 10 years only 5 games away, now’s not the time to talking 2021 salary CAP and who to keep versus let walk. Regardless of how far we go in the playoffs, Bucs will have some incredibly difficult roster decisions to make.

Here’s what you all are foollishly overlooking, next year’s salary cap drops precipitously. Many free agents will be taking hometown or prove it deals to get rich in 2022. There isn’t much money to go around in 2021.

The offseason will be challenging for the Bucs. A lot of mouths to feed. Licht did a great job this year. I can’t wait to see him work some magic this year.

LOL, Allen and Cooper would be 4th stringers on our team and are nowhere near worth what they are making. Godwin outclasses both of those dudes and deserves his money.
