Bruce Arians Shuns Virtual Coaching

The term “old school” officially has been redefined.
In what Joe considers to be a stunning admission, Bucco Bruce Arians explained on national radio that he refuses to meet with his team virtually after games — or at any time.
NFL rules don’t allow players and coaches to meet in person on Mondays. It has to be virtual affair and the Bucs head coach wants no part of that, so he told SiriusXM NFL Radio last night.
Arians pulled back the curtain on his postgame process to coach up players on what went wrong and right in a game. He punts that to position coaches individually and personally waits until Wednesday on a typical week. The traditional 24-hour rule is out the window.
If Arians is going to set a tone for a new week, that won’t come for a while.
“I have not done a ZOOM meeting this entire season — from the spring until today,” Arians said. “I just don’t believe in it. I want to look my guys in the eye. So we come in early Wednesday morning, go over the last game and then get to the next game. But the ZOOM meetings, they’ll take place individually with coaches just making the normal corrections.”
Man, that’s a little bizarre for Arians to disconnect like that, even for 2020.
But hey, it seems to be working, as the Bucs are peaking at the right time.

Lol. I love when the older generations say that their excuses for not working more efficiently is that they’re “old school”. This myopic mentality is so dumb. He should probably just retire if he doesn’t want to work.

Zoom meetings suck. I sit through them everyday at work. It has nothing to do with age. The best way to make a meaningful impact is still a face to face meeting.

The Bucs were a disaster when Arians did Jason Licht a “solid” and took the head coaching job. His first year was good in many ways but untimely poor kicking and QB play via turnovers doomed the team. Looking back…thank God…as it set into motion this special season. It’s been so long since the SB win that a kid born during that playoff run would officially be an “adult” now. Think about that. Excited to see how this play out…Arians starting to push all the right buttons…just not on Zoom apparently.

Sitting through virtual meetings suck and I have to do it everyday. So easy to tune out what you hear anyway

My work doesn’t allow for virtual meetings. I would think they would be good, those little 2×3 tiles of your face, people can’t tell if you’re paying attention or not ! Enjoy it while it lasts. I still have to meet in person with every client.

Old school sounds great, but what it means is that someone isn’t willing to work as efficiently as possible when circumstances demand it.

Is this guy lazy? Its hard to believe you can be in his position and be lazy but he’s been coming off as lazy all year. He has a lot of excuses but they all boil down to “I don’t do that. Someone else does.”

I think BA learned from one of his many mentors along the way…the legendary Bear Bryant who was in his final season when BA coached there.
Part of Bryant’s success was the sheer number of recruits before the 90 limit and Bear had terrific assistants and he was not afraid to delegate.
With the huge cadre of coaches on this team how much technical instruction is BA going to provide anyway. He can get in his psych on motivation a couple days before the game. The players and coaches are all professionals

Not sure exactly what you’re saying here Joe, but I’ve been trying to figure out BA’s role here since Day One. I’ve come to the conclusion that he pretty much keeps hands-off the defense & let’s Todd Bowles run the show there. BA will ‘talk it up’ afterwards during his press conferences & whatever, but I’ve never even seen BA & Todd in the same TV frame at the same time. Always got the feeling that’s how Gruden & Kiffin operated also.
Even more puzzling to me though is BA’s role in the offense. I’ve seen Brady come over to BA sometimes during a time-out or whatever, but usually not. And I’m assuming from what’s been written that BL sends a play in, then Brady kinda decides if he likes it or not. So ya ‘it seems to be working’ but only because Tom Brady has become a lot more comfortable in these last few games IMO. Hopefully this team continues ‘peaking at the right time’. Can’t think of anything sweeter than the Bucs winning the 2020 Super Bowl in Tampa with a 43-year-old QB being selected as MVP.
