CBS: Bucs At Top Of Their Game

Saturday hard to top.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It’s the Lions.
Yeah, the Bucs destroyed the Lions. But before you pooh-pooh that win away like it’s some joke, consider:
The Super Bowl champion Chiefs narrowly escaped getting beat by the four-win Dixie Chicks in Arrowhead. You see or hear anyone saying Pat Mahomes is a fraud or that Travis Kelce or Honey Badger are just lucky stiffs?
The Rams got their arses handed to them two weeks ago by the Jets and lost again yesterday. A team so bad they can’t even tank right. You see or hear anyone saying the game has passed Sean McVay by?
So with that background, the Bucs absolutely dismantling a five-win team in the Lions was so profound, John Breech of CBS believes the Bucs were at the top of their game.
Breech gave the Bucs an “A+.”
The Buccaneers probably could have put up 70 points in this game, but coach Bruce Arians decided to show some mercy by benching Tom Brady at halftime…. … Brady was in the Christmas spirit as he handed out gifts to everyone in the form of passing TDs that went to Rob Gronkowski, Mike Evans, Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin (Gronk and Evans actually caught two TD passes in the game, but their second one came from Blaine Gabbert, who played the entire second half). Overall, the Buccaneers finished with 588 yards of total offense, which is the most in franchise history and the second-most by any NFL team all season.
This is the offense Team Glazer and Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht envisioned when they went big game hunting and landed Brady, Gronkowski, Fournette and Brown.
The Bucs have a fantasy football team. And they racked up points in the first half like we were watching a fantasy.

That’s what happens when a team loaded like the Bucs actually puts in a 60 minute effort. No team can afford to take a quarter off. I can’t wait to see them play a full 60 against a good team.

I cant agree that the Falcons and Jets are a good comparison to the Lions. Fired coach, Interim HC out, No OC, New defense playcaller, a few more coaches out and lose QB early in the game. All that on top of an already poor team. Has there ever been a more handicapped team in the history of the game?

Many others……also…..what was the spread…..10.5 & we won by 40……
Surely, even with the Lions we should get credit for the outright stomp…..

I am not at all sold on this defense’s ability to hold a top offense to three scores.
Although I certainly enjoyed the offense onslaught vs. Atlanta & Detroit, I’m not a believer in this defense.
No pressure = Bucs D getting picked apart.
We know that Brees owns the Bucs. We know the Rams O owned the Bucs. And what are the odds Rodgers will play as poorly at home in a playoff game as he did in Tampa? I won’t place that bet.
IMO, this defense really has to come alive for the Bucs to go deep into the playoffs.

Running up the score? LOL! I was watching the game and told my wife, they are going to sit Brady and let the man rest after such a great first half. Othewise, would have been 65 points easily. One thing is for sure, Gabbert is not the starting QB going forward after Brady. I hope Ryan Succop got his bad day out of the way. We will need that five points left on the field in the playoffs. All good. Hope they ended the slow starts curse.

All is bliss when..you are winning. Even if its against a team without their best coaches. Funny how the tune changes when you face an opponent with a fierce pass rush huh? I was not impressed by the Detroit victory. Now if we did this in the playoffs..?

It’s not about how good you are, it’s when are you peaking. Bucs peaked, slumped, and are beginning to peak again as we move into the playoffs. Chiefs, Rams, Steelers, and Saints are all struggling.

We’ve all know that the Bucs Offense is capable of when the line blocks and gives Brady enough time.
The big weakness on this team is the secondary and always has been.
This team is going nowhere in the playoffs with Jimmy Dean and Sean Murphy-Bed playing corner. We can only hope Davis is back to 100% health and gets back to playing well unlike a few games he has when he was terrible.
I said it at the beginning of this season… our weak secondary is what will keep us from a deep playoff run barring a miracle. They’re just not good enough to stop the leagues too QBs.

No secondary can hold up to top QBs without pressure. Bucs need to live and die by the blitz in the playoffs. That’s what they do well.

Bottom line… With all of the problems Detroit has we were supposed to spank them…and we did. In the past we would have just squeaked one out or even clanked an upright and lost.

Since our team does not reside in the northeast, and outside of a few outliers, has been horrifically bad since Gruden left, we will need to go above and beyond to get respect.

If they left Brady playing he easily could have passed the 554-yard single game record.
BTW, the Bucs are listed 3 times in the top 12 most single game passing yards… all against obviously.

Couldn’t agree more, but same could probably be said for just about any NFL team Cobraboy. It’s just hard to win consistently without a pass rush. Detroit’s OLine isn’t quite the same as the Saints’ OLine, but still our DLine looked like they got decent penetration throughout the game. The 4 sacks came at opportune times (3 of them on 3rd down), and the 11 QB Hits probably kept Stafford, Daniels & Blough twitching.
Hopefully the Bucs D can put together a similar attacking defense against the Falcons on Sunday. Would love to see this team go into the playoffs on a high note.
