Bucs Have History Of Reclamation Projects
March 14th, 2010A lot of Bucs fans were quickly excited when they learned the Bucs had acquired a wide receiver last week, sort of like an unexpected late night/early morning phone call from Rachel Watson.
When learning the wide receiver was Reggie Brown and not Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin, the excitement quickly turned to disappointment, as if Rachel dialed the wrong number.
There really isn’t a reason to be bummed about the trade writes Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune. That’s because the Bucs have had luck with turn-around projects.
Brown today is no different than Bryant, Hilliard and Hovan were a few years ago. He’s a player hungry for a chance to prove he can still play in this league. Who knows? Maybe he can.
When scouts talk about him they still talk about his top-end straight-line speed and they nod their heads in approval at the way he’s improved as a route runner.
They like his courage and his concentration in traffic and the fact that in addition to playing outside of the numbers, he can play inside them if the need arises.
Joe held out hope the receiver the Bucs would get would have been Boldin, though he knew better. Joe also knowsthere’s virtually no way the Bucs are going to cough up what the Broncos want for a head case, no matter how talented Marshall may be.
If Brown can do anything, he’s worth the pick.
Blocking icon Michael Clayton was a first round pick. How has that paid off lately?

A roster chock full of rookies and reclamation projects…sounds like the recipe for another quality season to me. Maybe we can achieve 4-12 this year. Go Bucs!

The irony is that the best reclamation project they have had was Antonio Bryant, and they let him go. He didn’t even cost a Sixth rounder and lit up the league in 08 and was our leading wr last year by a wide margin.
A policy of hoping for lightning to strike again is dubious. I just can’t fathom that Andy Reed wouldn’t have used the dude if he was any good.

FWIW:
Sources say the Buccaneers’ strategy for grooming QB Josh Freeman
was part of the reason the team chose not to be more aggressive in its
efforts to re-sign unrestricted free-agent WR Antonio Bryant, who
signed with the Bengals March 10. Tampa Bay was concerned that Bryant
might put pressure on Freeman and demand the ball be thrown to him,
which is not an environment the team is seeking to create for its
young quarterback.

I wonder how he will feel when they blitz the hell out of him without a decent wideout to throw to.

Good point, Eric.

Of course they have a history w/ reclamation projects – they are cheap!! Any idiot who thinks Bryant was resigned because he demands the ball is lost. Yes, Bryant demands the ball, and he should.
The ONLY reason Bryant wasn’t resigned was because he could command between 6-10 million per and 10-15 guaranteed on the open market.

…and all these time people thought Gruden only liked old guys, and blasted him for it….
Nope , it’s just all the Glazers would allow us to buy.

Thanks Mike J!

I believe injury is the reason why the Bucs let him go…. Having a great TE in today’s game is more valuable then ever…. LB’s are not build to be DBs and DBs aren’t built to stop the inside run…. We need a receiver that comes to work for all 16 reg. season games…. We worked with Keyshawn and he helped us out to a championship…. Can someone say Terrell Owens?

You get what you PAY for!! thats life. Glazers dont want to waste valuable kickball money on a stupid NFL team.. plain and simple. I cannot stand Rahdreamer or Domifake trying to put lipstick on this pig of a team. Ok. we suck and are going to again in 10 and beyond. Hey Rich.. you busy? can you pls come back .. Jon’s gone ..we need help.
