Bucs Could Still Be Looking For Receivers

Vacation Man of BSPN believes the Bucs are still searching for another receiver target for Josh Freeman.
Right now the Bucs are beyond thin at wide receiver. The constant spoken desire to get quarterback Josh Freeman tools to develop ring hollow.
But Vacation Man, working for the TASS-like agency BSPN, has a hunch Bucs general manager Mark Dominik sees this too and is working behind the scenes to correct the problem. So he wrote in a recent NFC South chat.

With Raheem saying it’s all about Freeman, why are the Buc’s doing more to try to get him some solid receivers. Let Bryant walk. No mention of Bolding. No action toward Marshall. But they are willing to give up a future pick for a WR that was soon to be released anyway. If it’s all about Freeman, they’re sure leaving him out to dry.Vacation Man
I’m with you. But just because we’re not hearing about them doing anything, doesn’t mean that’s entirely true. Even in this day and age, some teams can keep things under the radar. Not saying that’s definitely happening here, but it could be the case. Whatever, they do have to get Freeman a real No. 1 WR at some point.Cristian (Kissimmee FL)

Tough one. I’m thinking it might be someone that comes available from somewhere else after the draft. They don’t seem interested in any of the big names available right now. Maybe they’re waiting for someone without the baggage to come open in a trade or by getting released from another team.
Even if the Bucs load up on receivers in the draft, Joe just can’t believe the Bucs are going to settle for the grizzled veterans currently on the roster.

Yes, because teams release good #1 WR’s that cost little and have no baggage ALL the time .

You will see the Bucs grab 1-2 through the draft. Pick up 1 or 2 Receivers that you never heard of before training camp. About 5 games in to the season we will grab a couple of other teams practice squads. Write it down folks. We should change the team name to the Tampa Bay Catfish!

Unfortunately, while other teams are building with real football players, authentic NFL coaches, and proven GM’s, we are left to rank speculation and the pipe dream that what we all see is not the truth.

For several years we listened to how Bruce Allen was clearing cap room so the Bucs could be real players in free agency but before Allen could spend any of that money, he and Gruden were fired. Now we are led to believe that with a new collective bargaining agreement hundreds of quality unrestricted free agents will become available for the Bucs to choose from so why spend the money now on mediocre free agents. Forgive me if I am a bit cyncial, but I would wager that when that day comes, the Bucs front office headed by the Glazers will not spend a nickel and will come up with a lame excuse for not spending then either.

ive been saying that 2 jake only reason gruden and allen were fired is because they were about to spend the cap money and if they were not allowed to they would of publicly called out the glazers its alot cheaper for the glazers to just fire them and pay them 25 million to go away instead of having them spend our cap money and having a chance of getting called out by the coach and gm for being cheap in the end glazers saved more money by firing gruden and allen

The way that whole Gruden firing went down was highly odd. I understand he had just had a “state of the bucs” meeting with Glazers, then they canned him over the phone. Then boom, Dream hired immediately.
Could be the plan Gruden articulated actually required spending a little dough.

I think we absolutely should take a look at Walker. While he has off-field issues and he is at the age, 31, where the athletic skills of a WR tend to slip a little, he’d still be the fastest receiver on the team (at least of those currently on the roster) and he’d be the WR with the most production throughout his career (unfortunately, just like all the veteran WRs currently on the roster, he’s been streaky at best).
Bring him in, decide based on the interview if his “baggage” can be managed or not, and if so offer him a incentive laden 2 or 3 year deal (I don’t care for the though of another 1 year deal, then repeat what happened with AB).

Draft Arrelious Benn in the 2nd round and draft either Gilyard or Shipley in the 3rd round. Also, get Limas Sweed from Pitt. He is better than any receiver that we have. Except maybe SS. Very easy fix and then try to sign one of the stud WR next offseason. I think that would solve our WR problem for the future. It will be solid next year and great for many years to come!!!
I’m also in favor of trading for Marshall. That would be amazing to get him and draft CJ Spiller with Denver’s number 11 pick. Talk about instance offense!!

Gruden was fired because he is a joke. He is the main reason we are rebuilding now. Lets sign 50,000 qb’s and sign 30 year old players to fill holes for one or two year. Way to go!!! I wish we would’ve fired him a year sooner.
And I think Heem was hired to rebuild the team and if it doesn’t work out next year they can fire him for a big name coach that would be coming to a team with a lot of talent. They would just be young. It makes sense. If Raheem fails, who cares he was young and not a big name coach. I don’t agree with this philosophy at all but I do think it is true!!
