Rich Gannon Talks About What’s Holding Back Tom Brady
December 21st, 2020Joe would have ignored this nugget from former NFL MVP quarterback Rich Gannon, who now works for CBS, but Gannon said specifically that he’s been talking to people in Tampa.
Gannon joined The Rich Eisen Show last week and, ironically, made listeners think that something is out of sync with Tom Brady in the Bucs’ offense and that it wouldn’t be fixed soon.
And, voila! The Bucs offense had extreme highs and lows yesterday, and another slow start.
Gannon ranted about Brady’s history in New England with not only a similar playbook but the same footwork, expectations and coaching demands that are now changed.
Then Gannon rolled into how things are probably different for Brady in Tampa.
“The other thing that you’re not hearing is, I just think Brady’s used to things being done a certain way — attention to detail, discipline, structure,” Gannon said. “I’m not saying that Bruce isn’t that way, but it’s probably not as tight, it’s probably not as disciplined.
“And so Tom’s probably having to walk over to receivers during practice and coach them up a little bit, talk to the backs, whereas he never had to do that. I mean all those assistant coaches in New England had been there forever, and they all knew it was supposed to be done a certain way. And they all had to answer to Bill [Belicheat]. And sense is things aren’t as dialed in as he wants them to be, as he needs them to be on Sunday, and that’s had an effect on his performance.”
This is all very interesting to Joe, especially after Gannon said he’s been talking to people in Tampa. Who they are is unclear, but Gannon is not a smoke-blower.
Maybe the inconsistency on offense can’t be fixed this season. Joe can accept that. But that doesn’t mean the Bucs can’t play better football overall and win in January. They were within a field goal of the Chiefs and Rams last month.

Rich Gannon may have hit the nail straight on its head here. I don’t bruce is that great of a coach despite him having the largest coaching staff in the NFL. He’s supposed to be a QB whisperer/ Please! The only thing he’s whispering is to his seat on his golf cart. Brady is meticulous. Things have to be a certain way with him. it’s taking him time to adjust to his receivers, OC, and Arians, No risk it no biscuit BS.

Gannon is dead on here. I said yesterday the reason that Brady and Belichick were so good is Bill kept the team tight and Tom just had to lead it.
Bruce and his minions ain’t no Belichick.

I can hope TB will move into the Bucs front office when his playing days are over.. instead of Miami and the Dolphins where I think he is headed.. you heard it here first!
Yeah yeah yeah I know about ex players especially those with mega bucks… but football is in Toms blood and I think he believes he can carry his passion and attention to detail along with his competitive spirit into the front office.
Ok why not Tampa…. lol Miami is Miami with So much more to offer as a playground. Direct flights to Brazil too
and his buddy Jeter making the introductions

Well when your all time QB has to coach the receivers, re do the playbook and basically run the offensive side of the ball you won’t have a consistent offense.
Never thought Brady would have to overcome suspect coaching as well all the other hurdles of being on a new team…
BA and this staff are just not all they are hyped up to be
December 21st, 2020 at 4:48 pm
That last sentence says so mych joe. Think about how terrible they looked in both of thos games at times. Completely out matched and out played. Yet when it was all said and done it was a fg game. I am frustrated watching this team, as im sure most fans are. But with all that frustration and all that lack of playing up to their potential for 4 quarters, against every team but the saints they have kept it close where it matters most, the scoreboard. Shoot, in games where they have only played 2-3 quarters of good football, they have still beat teams by 10+. (Raiders, panthers x2, vikings, broncos)
Think about the chiefs mindset. They needed tyreek hill to have a 200 yard opening quarter to win by 3.
Think about the rams mindset. They needed their top 2 wr to have combined 23 catches for 275 yards to win by 3.
And jamel dean was hurt in the rams game and missed the chiefs game. I dont think thats a coincidence.
December 21st, 2020 at 5:06 pm
Said it before BA is a players coach. You get a day off and you get a day off and you get a day off. Receivers are practicing one day a week if that all year long. Hard to get on the same page like that.
December 21st, 2020 at 5:08 pm
You’d think the Bucs were 5-9 instead of 9-5, the way some “fans” are crying the blues. Playoffs, baby!!
December 21st, 2020 at 5:09 pm
Again……there was no way this team was every going to develop the chemistry that the Saints or Chiefs have…..we didn’t have an offseason and this is Brady’s first year in an offense that attacks differently then he’s accustomed to. I see some positives even with the inconsistencies. This team hangs in there with top tier teams while playing relatively crappy. Other then the first Saints game, we’ve held up with some really good teams and we are beating teams that we should beat. We are in position to go to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. And as i’ve said in the past….once you’re in, anything can happen. Look no further then the Jets beating the Rams. Any given sunday.
Hopefully the 2nd half against the falcons kick starts more production from the offense moving forward. The defense is what it is……you cant disguise that secondary, its garbage and everyone can smell it.

My take is that Brady is also going through an adjustment. He is used to a Welker or Edelman type receiver They are sneaky fast and take a pounding over the middle. Welker also suffered more than his share of concussions. Scotty Miller
is a deep threat but I don’t think its wise to throw him a 2 or 3 yard route. That is not his skillset. Anyway i would like to see both Evans, if he isn’t concussed and Godwin get more touches. Both are capable of going across the middle. They may not be Edelman or Welker but Brady needs to be more patient early in the game. Guarantee you will never see anybody better at pulling down the high and hard pass li Brady threw to Evans or the catches Godwin makes in traffic and somehow creates YAC yards afterwards Glad to see the pocket being moved and Brady moving laterally. He has got to buy enough time to get the ball to our guys as well our new addition who had his best game as a Buc.
December 21st, 2020 at 5:18 pm
I’m just not sure about all of this when some of the past games all we needed him to do was hand the damn ball to RoJo to get in some rhythm. Just irritating to me to see them open up trying to wing the ball down field out of the gate. Seems like more play calling to me. Bucs have to stop spotting teams points and not sure how many more first half’s my blood pressure can endure.

Awesome take Godlovesbucs
December 21st, 2020 at 5:21 pm
Nut huggers like flys on 💩
December 21st, 2020 at 5:38 pm
the failure definitely is on the coaching
December 21st, 2020 at 5:41 pm
Some of these struggles are on Brady & he’ll be the first one to admit it…..he’s shaky early in ball games and it has nothing to do with the play call…..when his backs don’t catch the ball…that doesn’t help….when the defense gets gashed early, that doesn’t help.
Sure, some of this is on the coaches….but not all.
Keep in mind….Brady had two game-winning opportunities and failed….I love it that Tom Brady is our QB…..But he’s not perfect. 32-11 & no fumbles is pretty good…..
December 21st, 2020 at 5:48 pm
I think Gannon is a smart dude with a point.
My question to others oh this site:
Is didn’t we read that Brady was so upset with the receivers last year on New England not being in the right place and he went to Belichick on multiple occasions saying that he could not feel comfortable throwing to certain receivers on that team because they were not in the right place.
So if the receivers on New England were so well coached last year, why was Brady saying that?
December 21st, 2020 at 5:49 pm
Mebbe the fact that Methusaleh is 43 is a factor in the slow starts. Pop an amyl nitrate under his nose in the first half and that might do the trick.😊
December 21st, 2020 at 5:51 pm
Tbbf
Maybe Tom is so terrible at the beginning of games because he has no game plan or a very poor one, And he’s used to much more discipline and everything being where it should.
He always looks upset to me it,Has to be over something.
December 21st, 2020 at 5:56 pm
@JoeinMichigan
Amen bro!!! And we have two games left with the Division title still on the line.
Admittedly we need some help from the Saints but with Brees banged up, Thomas out and Jordan so frustrated he’s getting run for punching dudes…I wish the Vikes had whipped the Bears so they had more riding on that game…I think the Vikings have enough talent to beat New Orleans…admittedly if it’s all on the line the last game of the year the Panthers are not exactly a road block to the NFC South title.
Still you’re spot on Joe. Two games to go and we’re not even out of the Division chase yet. Two games to go and it looks like we’re in the playoffs…win one and we are definitely in…win two for a better seed.
THIS IS A TOUGH CROWD! IT’S THE FREAKING NFL. PARITY!!!
December 21st, 2020 at 6:02 pm
This would make sense and jives with reports that a Brady has been unhappy with midweek preparation, practicing situational football, etc.
And there is ZERO doubt in mind that Billcheat runs a waaaayyyy tighter ship with much more discipline compared to Arians.
December 21st, 2020 at 6:04 pm
they should move ME and CG inside and SM and AB outside…… with a RB in the backfield for ME, CG and Gronk to block for if needed on runs
slants across the middle and Gronk and RB quick toss and out wide go deep or quick quick pass and let em break it loose. let ME and CG do the diry work….it’s what their best at.

Bingo!
December 21st, 2020 at 6:18 pm
The easiest way to fix that quickly is by starting the game with short, quick passes. Something like a west coast offense would be good.
Let everyone get onto the same page with a few slants and a few short posts and wheel routes.
Please stay away from the quick out though, those things are disastrous around here.
December 21st, 2020 at 6:19 pm
Imagine what Mcvay or Shannahan, or Reid could do with this offense….
Defense is a while other kettle of fish.
Maybe Tom will stay on and coach..
December 21st, 2020 at 6:32 pm
Robert, I don’t believe moving them inside all the time is the answer . They are both more than capable of making big plays deep also.
December 21st, 2020 at 6:34 pm
I agree Valrico, they are……just hate to see SM and AB wasted to some extent.
we should be putting up 50 burgers weekly, but I aint mad.
December 21st, 2020 at 6:37 pm
agreed with bob in valrico…
brady doesn’t have his little white bruiser type receiver who can take those regular over the middle thumps…
miller is not that guy…
humphries was that guy…
imagine what type of numbers humphries would put up here…
humphries might be kicking himself right about now about not sticking in tampa…
after watching the game yesterday, it appears brady needs that guy, and he might just draft big cam brate into that role as the playoffs approach…
looked a bit like it yesterday
December 21st, 2020 at 6:41 pm
that’s why brady loves godwin…
godwin can do it all…
most versatile receive on the team
December 21st, 2020 at 7:01 pm
I am from New England, Brady is used to getting rid of the ball in under 2 sec. Now he has to hold it lo ger than 2, it has to be hard making that adjustment after 20 yrs. Evan’s struggles when he breaks route to identify where he should be, Edleman, Welker, Amandola, Gronk even Hogan all know where to go when they break route. Hang in there trust me u have the best and he HATES to lose. He has dealt with Bill for 20 yrs, Arians is a cake walk. BL has to go, not qualified.
December 21st, 2020 at 7:04 pm
When you beg a coach to come out of retirement as a favor…sometimes this is what you get. Plus Belicheat is an all time great. Sitting here at 9-5 ain’t bad though…still can’t believe the 2nd half rally yesterday.
December 21st, 2020 at 7:24 pm
The offensive is bipolar…. Never know what you gonna get …. Let tom call the plays from beginning to end.
December 21st, 2020 at 8:08 pm
All I know is the Bucs have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. OK they haven’t won every game, no one does! Almost no one-Miami. They can beat any team! Sure I’d like to see them play great for 3 or4 quarters. But MOST IMPORTANT… I prefer a WIN! Win playing great, win playing poorly, at a minimum play well enough to WIN!! Go Bucs!
December 21st, 2020 at 8:15 pm
Had BA ever won a championship??
December 21st, 2020 at 8:58 pm
Leftwich sucks and Arians is enjoying an under the radar retirement
December 21st, 2020 at 9:05 pm
“Gee I wonder who Gannon spoke to?” You idiot, it was Brady.
December 21st, 2020 at 9:43 pm
The first half is the worst part of the Bucs in general. This team would be 5-9 without the GOAT.
December 21st, 2020 at 10:09 pm
Too bad Humphries never had a chance to play with Brady. He’s Brady’s kind of safety blanket.
Funny how people say Brady wanted to come to a team where he could sling it, unlike NE, but now those same people are saying he needs the Belichick safety blanket.
Some folks just aren’t happy.
Brady needed a full offseason with his teammates to get a feel of the flow.
December 22nd, 2020 at 12:07 am
I’m sure they are coaching them up they probably just treat them like professionals and expect them to act that way and practice hard to earn their millions while Americans lose EVERYTHING!!! … So glad all these millionaires are still happy and get to be lackadaisical while they get to have fun and get paid MILLIONS… I mean why treat them like they need to be yelled at and told to put their toes on the line… Shouldn’t that be expected of them?… It’s ok anyway, with the corruption in government and them spending us into oblivion the dollar will collapse soon and there will be no more football… Have any of you looked at the rate of inflation lately and maybe compared it to 1937 Germany?? Or maybe Greece?? … Yup we’ll be there soon!! We are spending 25% more than the gdp and 35% OF ALL MONEY printed EVER in the USA has been spent in the last 9 months.. look it up… That is not sustainable and we shouldn’t even be worried about these stupid low IQ athletes who kneel to Marxism and lecture us all about how hard they have it!! I don’t care anymore!!
December 22nd, 2020 at 8:29 am
Anyone from New England can see this is a poorly-coached team: lack of discipline {penalties}, poor route running, no ability to put together a screen pass, poorly scripted opening drives, no short passing game, no play action, no pre-snap motion, etc.
BA is semi-retired, takes no responsibility, and blames the players, but in reality he is wasting the best overall roster in the League–it’s the worst coaching job I’ve ever seen.
December 22nd, 2020 at 8:43 am
The football games can be a welcome reprieve from the constant stress of what’s been going on in the world for the last year. While everyone’s situation is different – it would be naive to not stay informed. IMO it can be overwhelming and exhausting to vest too much focus in the political agenda news networks. And yeah, athletes, actors and rock stars all make too much money, but if I had any of that talent, I’d be all in too!
December 22nd, 2020 at 10:16 am
Conjecture, blah blah blah
December 22nd, 2020 at 10:28 am
Okay, C’MON… I’ve Said This For Years. “The Patriot Way” Was “The BRADY Way”… Belichick Will Continue To Be A “.500” Head Coach Without TB12.
ARIANS Needs To Get The Hell Out Of TB12’s Offensive Designs And Focus On Correcting The BUCS Defense. Week After Week The Defense Puts BRADY & The Offense In A Hole… Early.!!!
Championship Teams STOP Opponents & Create Half Time Leads… They Don’t Make Their Own Offense Put Up 3 Or More Scoring Drives In Every 2nd Half.
The BUCS Are Extremely Lucky To Have The GOAT, Who Can Actually Make Those Comebacks Happen.!!!!
Bruce Arians Needs To Make The BUCS Questionable Defense Play Like Champions.!!!
2 More Regular Season Games To Get The BUCS Defense To Come Correct, Because They Are Looking Worse Than The Steelers.!!!
Let BRADY Run The Offense & Make Your Defense Better, Arians. Thats How To Win The SUPERBOWL Come February 2021. The ONLY Way.!!!
December 22nd, 2020 at 11:42 am
I’m confused……..are we 9 – 5 and going to the playoffs?
December 22nd, 2020 at 6:55 pm
20yrs in the same system? That’s a given that Brady was gonna have to make some serious adjustments. That was my biggest fear with him joining a different team.
December 24th, 2020 at 4:03 am
“Bill [Belicheat].“
Stay classy Joe. Are you hanging out in one of Ira’s chins and that’s why you’re so salty all the time? BBQ sauce stickying up your mood?
