RoJo Hits 900 Yards With Three Games Remaining

December 13th, 2020

RoJo!

RoJo!

RoJo!

Ronald Jones got 19 touches today and that might just be the magic formula for the Buccaneers’ offense to find consistency in the run-up to the playoffs.

Yeah, they have to be more precise, and RoJo would have had 20 touches if Tom Brady didn’t overthrow him badly on a short pass. But RoJo literally did everything the Bucs asked of him today — 18 carries for 80 yards is very strong, and RoJo caught the one pass he could get his hands near.

RoJo now sits at 900 rushing yards with three games to play. That comes on 180 carries, which means RoJo is averaging exactly 5 yards per carry.

Feed the man!

“RoJo played great, and Shady [McCoy} really gave us a lift in the second half,” Bucco Bruce Arians said after the game on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Joe agrees. The Bucs truly have a running game, and if somehow the passing game can get more in sync, amazing things could happen. Really.

Man if Brady will just clam down a little he would have had a huge game. When his feet get sloppy, passes always sail.

  2. Buczilla Says:

I’m already sold on Rojo being an above average runner and it’s on the coaches if he doesn’t get his carries. That said, he needs to improve by leaps and bounds as a catcher next year to be worth more than 3-4 million to the team when his rookie deal expires. I wish em luck.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Cook got 100 yards on 22 carries
Jones got 80 22 carries, he would have had 96 yards…..similar to Cook..

    And…..who had the holes?…….Certainly not ROJO…

At least we stuck with the run today….

  4. Wesley Says:

Wish we could see what Sneaky can do. He could be a ROTY but we’ll never know. Shady looked decent today need to throw him the ball more. It’s time to just put Fournette on the practice squad.

  5. All lives matter Says:

If we really were committed to the run they would let RoJo take more deep drops instead of handing him the ball standing still near the QB like a draw play.

Arent these Joe bucs fan guys the same people who wanted to get rid of RoJo?
Joe wrote many times to bring in other running backs to compete with RoJo and not gift him a job because he didn’t look that promising. And the Bucs brought in three, and good for RoJo. –Joe

ROJO. This guy is amazing. I get excited every time he touches the ball. He is that good. Elctrifying.

  9. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Don’t forget Dalvin fell of his own accord about four times in the first half.

  10. Craig Says:

I still think he has too many runs of under 2 yards, but he still ends up doing good things. He ran hard and angry today, maybe because of of the 5 rush game.

He should have a good end to the season too, the Falcons run topping is really bad, as is that of the Lions.

  11. DungyDance Says:

Awesome job ROJO, and finally a more balanced offensive game plan. The deep pass bombs only work if they fear the run. And the run worked partly cuz we had many, many more plays with guys in motion to block or confuse the defense. Awesome day in a must win. Go Bucs!

  12. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Let’s see, every 2 yard run he was but at the line because people didn’t block. He turned several 2 yard runs into 4 yards

  13. Brett Says:

But they can’t run it at the beginning of the games when it matters. And brady loves to throw to his backs, but none of ours can catch. Still a major flaw the elite teams will exploit.

  14. DungyDance Says:

As I recall the very first rush was for 5 or 6, pretty good. But generally agreed that their rushing early in the game is not effective. Need more nuances to it, more screen passes or short pitches to complement. Straight up the gut rushing is too predictable. But ROJO got it done later.

  15. stpetebucsfan Says:

Again…I’m a big fan of ROJO and I support increasing his carries.

But I do not think we use him effectively.

Again…if a player ran ten times for one hundred yards we’d say terrific that’s a ten yard per carry average. But if he ran 9 times for 18 yards and once for 82 it’s a totally different story.

I lost track of the number of times ROJO was simply plowed into the line on first down…2 yards a cloud of dust and 2 and 8 once again behind on down and distance.

With FOUR…COUNT THEM FOUR!!! Possession receivers how hard is it to get one of them wide open for a quick 7 yard strike on first down? Imagine playing the game from 2nd and 3 instead of 2nd and 7 or 8.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

When Jones runs, it’s all elbows and knees flying around. I like that.

He may only get 2-3 yards, but he punishes in the process. That bodes well for later in the game.

  17. Aceofaerospace Says:

I wanted him gone too. I’m glad management, again, didn’t listen to me. Good for you RoJo. Keep it up.

  18. adam from ny Says:

rojo is getting better and better…

how did he become such a tough hard nose runner basically overnight…???

fournette is pissed and got benched…

watch rojo be even better next season…

we finally have our running back for a few years – hopefully

also now i’m noticing when he has nothing, he is learning to fall forward for a couple extra yards

  19. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Yucboy … NO HE DIDN’T!!!! HE WANTED ROJO THROWN FROM THE BUILDING FOR 2 SEASONS!! HE CALLED HIM AND BARBER THE WORST RUNNING BACK DUO IN THE LEAGUE…. AT LEAST OWN IT WHEN YOUR WRONG!!!! …… WHICH IS OFTEN 🤣
