Now Joe Henderson Turns Guns On Bucs
March 11th, 2010Yesterday, Joe brought you Adam Schein’s tirade about the Bucs, heard on Sirius NFL Radio.
Maybe influenced by that post, or perhaps he heard the broadcast, Tampa Tribune columnist Joe Henderson decided to break out the artillery on the Bucs for not bringing back wide receiver Antonio Bryant into the fold.
They essentially replaced Antonio Bryant with journeyman Reggie Brown from Philadelphia – banking (key word there) no doubt on a return to greatness by Michael Clayton. On the Clayton reference, I trust you understand sarcasm when you read it.
Bryant made nearly $10 million last season and at 29 years old would seem to be entering the prime of his career, a fact underscored by the four-year deal worth $28 million he signed Wednesday with Cincinnati after the Bucs told him to move on.
My friends, this is what it is has come down to: the Cincinnati Bengals are more willing to pay for talent than the Bucs. The Bengals, one of the cheapest organizations in the history of the National Football League, paid the man.
In the rest of his column Henderson tempers his writings and is even objective. Clearly, Henderson believes the Bucs could have helped themselves by keeping Bryant, especially given the fact his contract with the Bengals is nearly identical to blocking icon Michael Clayton’s.

I wish everyone would get off of Bryants jock. The guy has had 1 good season and has been average every other place he has been.
If he had one good season and one mediocre with the Bucs why is it that everyone only seems to look at what he did two years ago? He had every opportunity to earn a long term contract and he didn’t do it. He thinks he can live off of the 08 season for ever.
He is a total douche in the locker room and the Bengals over paid for him. He’s going to be bitching by week 3 when Ochcinco is catching all the TD’s and he isnt even sniffing the endzone.
They can have him.

Glad to see the local media is starting to get a little outraged! They have been entirely too quiet about what this team has been doing.
d-money, what did AB do to you? Did he leave you on a one-night-stand or something?

Louie,
Nothing like that. I’m just tired of everyone acting like he is the be all end all of wide recievers. He hasn’t proven that he can consistantly be a #1 reciever.
No denying he was great in 08′ but what has he done to show that thats the real AB and not the 7 other mediocre seasons he has had.

We’ll see how you feel when the Bucs trot out Clayton and Reggie Brown for the season opener. AB was the best (and perhaps only legit) WR this team had. Can’t say I’m happy he’s gone.

d-money, Tell us how you really feel about Antonio Bryant.

i agree with d-money AB could be possible one of the worst WR’s in the NFL how would anybody know? he was with the damn bucs everybody on that team is lower than good average. the only reason why the bengals thought he would be good is because he was the only one jeff garcia slung the ball to in the 08 season he made a few remember “FEW” good long catches in the 09. all he does is bitch and moan anyway. glad hes gone

Well under the criteria of “proving that he can consistently be a number one receiver” who, prey tell, do we now have that meets that?
I see no receiver on our roster that has proven didley squat.
Way to bring along your Franchis QB Bucs, real smart.

well i dont really know what happened to jeff garcia, or why hes a 2nd string for the raiders now it boggles my mind but, firing john gruden was there BIGGEST mistake he had one year left on his contract why not let him stay another year? he was a good ass coach but they let him go. im not saying raheem morris is a bad coach i have confidence in what hes trying to bring to the team but you gotta get going now because if theres really gonna be an NFL strike in 2011 then the bucs are fucked

Matt Mustard, “I agree with d-money AB could be possible one of the worst WR’s in the NFL how would anybody know?” I would ask just the opposite, what with having a career of such great QB parings. Like Chad Hutchinson, Quincy Carter, Jeff Garcia(twice ouch), Luke McCown(twice), Charlie Frye, Trent Dilfer, and Alex Smith. None of those are Palmer for sure. So, yeah I guess we’ll find out Antonio Byrant is a very good NFL WR.

I just don’t understand why we go after a never has been and give away our own has been who might be again. Hopefully Reggie Brown is trying to get it going like AB was when we brought him in. Hopefully RB is not just looking for 1 year rebound deal. And for the love of GOD can we get rid of Clayton already. What An IDIOT!

Cause were banking on selecting a group of young might gonna bes even though our GM is a never has been.
